Absolutely terrible plan by SONY which is odd considering how well they have done this generation of consoles.
Since Sony now owns Movie Studios & Television Networks, the studios have always been a little "nervous" of people owning theater quality movies and shows at home.
I've watched them over the years complain.
First, Videotapes - now people can watch at home, but the quality lacks and with drop outs plus the tape wears down means they won't last forever - so there's no worries.
Then LaserDisc - but still, not the resolution and "widescreen" versions were not great when enlarged. The LaserDisc community is small.
Then DVD - okay, they're a bit more nervous now, a digital format, but still, 480p can't hurt and not many people have large screens...
Now, Blu-ray, getting closer and closer - 1080p when older movies remastered and new movies filmed in the format - flat panels are a bit new and pricey - but the theaters are now digital at 4K...
4K UHD - okay, that's it - theater quality on disc in the palm of your hand - no way, as far as many studios are concerned...
Studios want to go to a "pay per play" download with DRM or streaming model...
