I honestly do not understand the crazy hype and media surrounding the upcoming iPhone5 ? I owned the first two iPhone's, thought they were crazy cool then, like from StarTrek future, but then I got bored when the 3GS was just more of the same, and moved on to the Nexus-One...then the Nexus-S 4G...now the Galaxy Nexus. I am open to going back to an iPhone, but to me it still looks and feels like the original from five years ago. I am open to going back to an iPhone, but not if it is just more of the same again.

Not trying to start a flame war here, honestly want to know why everyone is freaking out over the iPhone5, where to me, it seems like the same old, same old as the iPhone4, just slightly different at best, but basically the same design for a third year in a row. Where is the Apple innovation, or "magical" design, they were known for ?

The taller iPhone4 known as the iPhone5, looks absolutely ridiculous and silly. Looks like a Hershey's candy bar. Oh wow, so now, it will allow a 6th row of app icons LOL, amazing Apple will pass this off as all new and magical, and the Sheep will buy it in droves still.

iOS6 still looks so outdated, like from 2007, no widgets yet, no LED notification light, like BlackBerry has had for years. No live app icons like Windows Phone 8. The OS still has that lame Fischer Price toy theme. It's a kiddy phone.

Now they make the iPhone 4 a hair taller, and razor thin, but no bigger battery. Why not keep it the same thickness as the iPhone4, but stuff in a much larger battery ?

And these leaks for the iPhone5 have been everywhere this Summer. How will Tim Cook surprise us, when he reveals the phone millions of us have seen already. Doubling down on secrecy, LOL.

I will eat my words, if Apple reveals a truly original design, like 4.3" screen, with a shape no one has a leak of yet, but highly doubtful.

It's the new iPhone.

Hype = explained.

It seems odd that someone who is bored with Android and all the customization, widgets, larger screen, etc. would come on an iPhone forum and ask Apple to tailor the OS to have more customization, widgets, and a bigger screen.??? You are bored with all the features of Android and want something "different", but you want all the same features of Android on iOS?? Am I missing something?

Honestly...

I've owned an iPhone since the launch day 3G and loved every second of it. 3 months ago I had to switch to Verizon so I ditched my 4 for a hand-me-down OG DROID... worst phone I've ever used! So bad that I'd be glued to my 4 whenever there was wifi around... but I stuck with it because I didn't want to burn an upgrade credit so close to the 5. Spent the last 3 months carrying around a ****** Droid, and a glorified iPod Touch, just waiting for that day when the 5 would be in my hands.

As the leaks started to trickle in, my anticipation slowly waned... it was still there, just not quite the excitement I'd expected... then a funny thing happened...

Nokia announced the Lumia 920. And ALL of the sudden, I see hardware innovation I'm excited about again! NFC? Yeah, ok that's cool, but I could live without it. Awesome floating camera lens? Yes please! But the feature that got me most excited? Usable with gloves on! (Northerner here) I don't know a damn thing about WP8, but it looks new and exciting... something iOS has faltered on after 4 years of use.

Point is, there's still a lot of room left in the world of hardware innovation. Nokia wows us with the Lumia, Sony is set to release a gorgeous waterproof smartphone this fall. As a loyal iPhone user, I sincerely hope they step it up next Wednesday, because I want an iPhone 5. I want an innovative iOS device.... but if it's just a slightly larger, faster iPhone 4S, I'll be stuck yelling at this god damned DROID til the Lumia drops.

I find this a bit amusing since the Lumia 920 is a rehash of the 900 before it. Same thing that made people upset about the 4s. And I won't be surprised if the next Lumia is identical. Don't getme wrong, I think it's sweet, but it's all perspective. If you've owned an iPhone for a while, it's going to feel dated even if it's still a great OS.

It's definitely perspective, and since I haven't used a Nokia since Snake, it'll of course be new and exciting to me. Although it appears to look similar to the 900, the 920 has some very notable improvements... and the fact that people hammered nails with the 900 doesn't hurt it's durability prospects.

But the thing is, compared to the 900, the 920 has:

HD screen.
Pureview cam.
Wireless charging.
The latest dual core S4 chip compared to 2nd gen snapdragon in 900.
Double the RAM (something Apple has always kept tight).
Extra 130mah battery capacity, compared to 10 mah that Apple tends to add every time.
And most of all, a re-written OS which shares the kernel with its desktop cousin.

Those are not just slight rehashes.

Apple has had similar upgrades on most of those features as well. And I'm hearing the cam isn't "truly Pureview". But haven't read what that means.

I admit iOS needs a refresh. Let's hope that's something Apple is saving for the launch.

With the Lumia 920, Nokia and Microsoft have the benefit of starting from scratch and building something truly awesome and that is why everyone is drooling over it. The iPhone, however, is forever stuck with their 3.5" screen or slightly taller 4" screen. Apple will never come out with a large display because they don't want to complicate things for developers. Apple's own success has painted themselves into a corner with regard to screen size.

HD? It's a taller retina display. A display that's nearly 2.5 years old.
What does better processor do if the OS is EXACTLY the same? I don't get the hype over the specs when the OS hasn't changed whatsoever.
The battery will suck, let's not lie to ourselves. Apples has been terrible with battery life and the 4s was (and is) absolutely terrible.

you dont like iphone?

ok....have fun with your plastic devices. lol :D

Hey Dad, I found another sheep that needs to be sheared. Seriously, dude, it's a phone. It doesn't change your life dramatically nor is it a life or death decision to be made. I accept that you may like iOS, but you don't need to make smart ass comments to others about a damn phone. You have the right to like iOS, just like everyone else has the right to like Android or WP8. The bloke was just expressing his opinion, and has all the rights to do so. With that being said, with regards to your comment, it doesn't hold true that much, look at the One X. Don't see much plastic on that device. Also, can you please stop being a black sheep and following the mass crowds of people who just buy an iPhone because they have been sucked into Apples vortex and given blinkers. Stop wasting your parents money on stuff you don't need just because your seen as cool if you have an iPhone by your friends. Have a nice day!

The person you just replied to was talking about the Nokia Lumia 920's advantages over the 900. There was absolutely nothing in there about the iPhone.

Seriously, people, read the post before baselessly bashing the other poster(s), whether you're an iOS advocate or Android advocate.

He's just on a tear against the iPhone. I think sometimes his reading is hindered by all the red.

That was kind of my point :p

you are so mad! hahaha

Look at everything you wrote. And All I told him was to have fun with his plastic device! Did I say anything was wrong with plastic? I just told him to have fun. But at the same time, your response is the exact kind of response I was looking for when I type that!

Thanks for the laugh of the day!
