There's still a major flaw with the way everyone is reporting usage.

When you say Wifi On, please make it clearer if you've just left Wifi on but it's not associated with a network, or if it is on and you are connected to a network and are doing your browsing/email/whatever over wifi.

Two different people can say "Wifi: On, 3G: On" and it can mean two completely different things. In the case where wifi is on but NOT associated with any network (it's just searching for kicks) and you're using 3G for your connection, you will get MUCH less time out of the battery. But if they are both on and you ARE connected to wifi, that will very much increase usage time (if you are doing a lot of browsing/email/youtube etc..)

3G always on
Wifi on about 70 percent of the time. When it's on it's connected to a network

Read 'em and weep. 1st-gen phone for the win!

No, this image is not edited. Three days ago my vibrate stopped working and I got my phone exchanged at an Apple store. I am so happy with my "new" 1st-gen. It looks beautiful, works flawlessly, and best of all the battery hasn't seen a hundred charge cycles.

This makes no impression because you have not told us what that usage includes.

This was taken after my first charge. I got the phone, ran the battery down completely, then charged it overnight, and took this screenshot when it was about to die the day after the overnight charge. I'm in the act of charging it down again at the moment, and I'm at over 4 hours with pretty heavy use, and only half the battery is gone, so I'm expecting even better results this time.

I'm pretty happy with these though.

3G-off.
GPS-on 30% of the time.
WiFi-on 40% of the time.
iPod use-35% of the time.
General data use-75% of the time.

Ok. You got a new 1st gen iPhone 3 days ago. And now, 3 days later, you have 13 days worth of calls?

My usage as follows on a "full charge" and kept track of my Sunday:

- Updated to v2.0.2 last Wed.
- 3G: OFF
- WiFi: ON
- Push: OFF
- Fetch: OFF
- Location Service: ON
- Bluetooth: ON
- Calls made/received: ZERO
- Brightness: Custom/almost real LOW
- Received a total of 2 SMS's (didn't reply to them)
- Safari from home WiFi at most 3 times total of 5min max
- Yelp app accessed via WiFi for pizza phone #
- SportsTap app accessed via WiFi to view Olympics' medal count (less than 3min)
- Parlingo app via WiFi to chat on MSN for less than 5min
- Locate "ME" used twice (Google maps) once while under WiFi and 2nd time under Edge both for less than 2min
- Timer set for 1:30min to sleep (iPod played for the same amount of time off timer)

While I was on v2.0.1 using more apps and what not + same iPod on timer I had at least over 60% battery life. So basically my battery almost dead @ 21hrs 3min later with little use out of the iPhone (I actually got a 10% remaining warning at around 19hrs 43min). Is this normal or abnormal? Shouldn't my "usage or standby" section read LOWER?

Try a reset. Since your usage is as high as your standby time, something is obviously running in the background, eating the batterylife :)

I don't even see how this is possible. I am beyond frustrated.

I don't have 3g in NH so:
- 3G off
- Location off
- BT off

Usage was web over wifi for about 10 minutes, a few highlights on the MLB app, a 30 min call, and 2 albums of music.

Something is stuck running in the background. THis happened to me a few times also. Someone suggested to me to turn the phone off and then turn it back on and that cleared it up. Try that before a reset.

can someone explain to me how to read these screen shots?
im so confused.
do you add usage and standby times up together to get the total "on" time?
very confusing.
help?

Yeah, so far I've tracked it down to 4 possible case scenarios:

Phone setting(s)?
- Locate Me: Turned it OFF
- Mail Fetch: Was set to manual, however after last update it was set to auto. I caught it and set back to manual. Having said that I also had to set each a-mail account to manual option because it kept trying to check (still).

Broken Apps ?
- Safari: It has locked up "hard" a few times (has never done this on prev versions) to the point it will auto-reboot itself.
- Palringo: There's no way to sing off once you have told it to remember you (unless you go through phone settings). However I never had a problem with it on v2.0.0 and v2.0.1

I connected my phone just this morning to do a backup and sync brain tuner :D

I think I am fairly happy with my battery usage but like the PP I'm not too sure how to read the figures.

3G - ON
Wifi - OFF mostly
Push - OFF
Fetch - ON
Location Services - ON
Bluetooth - ON
Brightness - 100%

You wear sunglasses all day? I would try with a lower brightness setting, try 20-30% :).

I am not sure if I have stumbled onto the secret of longer battery life for my phone, but I accidentally left it charging overnight Tuesday and woke up to excellent battery performance Wednesday. I am extremely happy to report that I got over five hours before the 20 percent warning message popped up. I should have waited until I got 10 percent, but oh well:D

It may be coincidental, but it if works, who cares why? Kidding, I plan to alternate charging methods, overnight versus my regular charging habit (unplugging phone charge complete icon comes on) to see if I consistently get better performance from charging overnight.

By the way, usage was comprised of surfing, including retrieving and responding to email, heavier than normal phone use, texting and about 10 minutes or so of listening to songs.

I normally get around four and a half hours, if I am lucky.

I decided to track my battery usage and not synch my phone since the last full charge until it runs dead. Looks like my battery is not too shabby :D Took the screen shot a while after it said 10% left and 15 minutes before it died...
