Ok here are my final two screen caps for today because I have to finally charge my phone to go to work later.

This first one is the total just before I plugged it into the charger and the second one is after I plugged it into the charger. I posted the second one because people were insiting that I had to have plugged it in once or twice since the last charge to keep the usage stats so high. You see that it indicates that the iPhone was plugged in since the last full charge. These words appear the second you plug it into the charge or usb port. Notice the first screen cap doesn't say it's been plugged in so it's gone 1 day 18 hours since it was last plugged in at all.

That is some seriously impressive battery life Hex. Im approaching it, but wouldn't stand a chance breaching the 8 hour usage mark yet. I haven't done as many discharge cycles as I'd like yet, so maybe I'll get a little more out of it in a few days.

What is your usage like (i.e. web, text, phone, iPod, etc.)?
Also, what are your basic setting (i.e. 3G, Location, Push)?

Set on Edge mostly. Occasional 3G. Few phone calls. Wifi on only for a short time to surf.

I try to drain my battery to 10-20 % before recharging every time. Hopefully this will condition it.

Today I am on 3G just to drain the battery so I can charge and sync tonight.

I'm coming off my two days off from work so I mostly just used the iPhone for email. All those hours were spent reading emails. I have MobileMe and my mail is setup to use push for all settings including calendar, contacts and bookmarks. I get email almost constantly and I like using my iPhone for that.

Now that I'll be back to work tonight, I'll be using the phone for calls and other things as well so my battery life probably won't be as good but I will still get over a full day in.

Sorry, @ work so can't get a screenshot up, but here are my #'s

Time Since Last Full Charge:
Usage - 8 Hrs, 14 Min
Standby - 1 day, 23 Hrs

Call Time:
Current/lifetime - 2 Days

Cellular Network Data
Sent -66.3 MB
Recieved - 633 MB

EDIT - Sorry, currently setting are:
Full brightness
3G on
Data roaming off
Push off
WiFi off, ask to join networks on

Geez. I wish I was getting some of the usages some of you were getting. So far today I've just talked on the phone and used the iTunes WiFi stores a little while. Here's my stats. I dont know if my battery is bad or not.

3G is on, Location services are always off, brightness is at about 40% with auto brightness on. Push email is on. I've never gotten over a day of standby.

can you turn down the brightness to say 20-25%? I feel that's good enough enough under sunlight. But it's upto you.

If you tried to condition your battery then it maybe just a defective battery.

Well I am debating on going to the Genius Bar again. I have been having SIM tray issues and Apple offered to replace it, but I was also thinking about upgrading to a 16GB and since I bought it at ATT, I wouldnt be able to do that if I swapped at Apple. If my battery is also defective, I'll just forget the 16GB and swap it out. I've never gotten over a day of standby. I have to charge it every night because it dies by 1-2am.

I have tried it at 25% as well and only got minimal improvement. I've hardly used the phone most of today and I have around 60% of the battery left.

I'd settle for 10 hours I just want to go to work and back without it dying, cmon 3 hours and 20% or 10% pops up....rediculous. I envy your phone making it till 1am

I'll post usage in about 30 minutes when I get home...

Actually, I have no idea...I generally listen to music on the to/during work, light texting/surfing/calling. This may be the longest I've gone without needing to charge, and would be surprised if I made it out of work without some juice.

True, but I wake up at 9:30 every morning, so your milage may vary. I really think you should tkae yours back. It's obvious something is wrong with yours.

*sigh* just got to 20% warning...

HERE is my usage -- tempted to take it back, but according to Apple, i should only get 5 hrs of 3G talk time (straight through) or 5 hours of web time w/ 3G - so I guess turning it off, on, off, on and surfing, and checking facebook, and talking etc...uses the power quicker?

Suggestions? Keep it? Send it back? I am thinking keep it, and if it gets annoying call up applecare and have em replace it with in the 1 year warranty period:

3G - ON
Location - OFF
Push - ON
WiFi - OFF

If you have 3G on all day and use it intermittently (esp with surfing or using applications) I am not surprised that it drains most of the battery by evening. 3G is voracious in term of battery use.

Test your phone out by setting it on Edge. It should double your battery standby time easily or else it is definitely defective.

I think for most people, leave phone on Edge and switch to 3G when need to surf would increase your standby time.

Using the device like this seems to defeat the purpose of buying a 3G iPhone. I understand that it is a drain on the battery, but 5 hours of talk time shouldn't be advertised if I am only really getting about 2 hours or so before it drains.

Is everyone else doing that? Specifically those who are getting 1 day of standby along with 7-8 hours of use? Honestly, if I have to turn off the 3G on the iPhone 3G then it's pretty much worthless. I can save $10 a month and go back to my old iPhone that lasts a full 24 hours and allows me to use it.

I'll try it with EDGE on only and see how that goes tomorrow. Here's what it looks like now after about 20 minutes more of talking.

just got 10% Warning

web.jpg

Okay -- all in all, I am pretty satiated -- I can make it through a workday fine. The only issues I would have are weekends (maybe) .... we will see if that changes when I get a social life LOL

Mobile me - pushing contacts, calendar, bookmarks and mail + yahoo push email + 2 imap accounts set to fetch hourly. A couple of phone calls, one with bluetooth. Plus surfing, a little IMing with palringo, downloaded a few apps from the app store, and played about 40 minutes of of suduko unlimited.

3G on, WiFi on, location services on, brightness at about 30 percent.

Not terrible, but not as good as some of the posts in this thread. If i can't stretch it out to about 15 hours of standby (with maybe an hour or two less usage), I'm going to sell it on craigslist and buy another one.

I guess I don't really understand the usage and standby time.

I charged my phone last night and unplugged it and put it on standby. I didn't check it again until I got to work and it had:

8 HRs 44 m Usage
10HRs 24 m Standby.

I didn't use the phone at all between the time I unplugged it at around 10:00PM and when I looked at it in the morning at work around 8:30AM.

?

I'd like to know how you can get lifetime under the call time to reset? Mine says 16 days, 13 hours and I have not owned my 3G that long?

I know it would just be a ballpark guestimate, but someone with more time than I have (2 small kids) should go through this thread and try to figure out what an hour of usage equate to in terms of standby.

I think this battery is great!

I have the 3G turned off because it is not available in the area where I work and I use the wifi at home. The brightness is set to about 30 percent with auto brightness turned off. The cell service is terrible at work, but my iphone gets the best reception out of all of my coworkers, one of them has a 1st gen iphone and can't get a signal at all where I get two bars.

When you put the phone on standby, was an app running or were you on the home screen?

I was on the home screen so nothing was knowingly running.

I had 3G on, push on, WIFI off, location services off. I don't know why 3G was on because I am in a location that doesn't get it and I could have sworn I turned it off earlier.

I'm going to try it again tonight, the only difference is 3G is off.
