Not for A5, forgive my excitement but our devs shouldn't even have bothered with that

There's literally millions of people on iPhone 4's and 3GS's. You can't be negligent to them, as they spend thousands in Cydia as well. Just be patient, it's the cost of having the 'latest and greatest'.

what if i have upgraded to 5.1 via a developer account? Can i downgrade to 5.0.1 and still jailbreak?

You should learn to appreciate hard work, my friend! Both of my devices are A5 but I am not complaining. I will wait patiently!

Gah.

After rebooting after downloading Spire on my iPhone 4 (5.0.1) I'm stuck on the Apple screen.

Anyone have any ideas?

None of the repos are loading in Cydia?
cydia usually struggles for the first 24 hrs after a jailbreak is released while everyone rushes out to redownload their stuff. Give it a few hours and you will probably have better luck.

Thanks guys and it is certainly a great news.

Now,Finally I will upgrade my 4.2.1 to 5.0.1. Can someone tell me how to do upgrade and jailbreak without upgrading the baseband? Should I just use the redsnow? will it create a customer firmware?

will appreciate help.
you can use redsn0w to make a custom ipsw and then put your phone into DFU, and then with itunes do a restore to the "NO_BB_iPhone_______.ipsw" that was created

haha dang you got me

as a "dev" i would say no because of the baseband, unless that doesnt change for betas. hows that guess?:D

I fathomed you from a mile away.. :D

Honestly, I don't know myself, not tried it, and if you don't know if your BB has changed...well you'll just have to give it a shot. Personally due to past experience, I'd say no...however at least You'll be able to go back to the 5.1, though if it gets stuck.

Why? Tons of people have older phones and have been waiting for this. I have two 3GS phones that I can now upgrade to 5.0.1 and JB.

Hmmmm - I'm on an iphone 4 and tethered on 5.0 right now (with an unlockable bb as well) so I'm not sure if I should upgrade to untethered on 5.0.1 or wait for 5.1. It sounds like 5.1 should be out pretty soon but I guess we don't really know if an untethered jb will be available for 5.1 when it comes out. This is the part of the cat and mouse game that I don't like. I'm the type that always likes to have the latest and greatest but you can't be that way when it comes to jailbreaking.

If 5.1 comes out and it looks like there isn't going to be an untethered jb for a while, will I still be able to do the 5.0.1 untethered jb?

just search for corona in cydia and you can untether your tethered jb.

Usually when a new firmware is released, apple still signs the old firmware for a few days. What you need to realize is that most of the updates apple releases don't add new features, they just fix security bugs, and the jb community is pretty good about making sure those bug fixes are available to jailbreakers who don't want to upgrade to every released firmware.

5.0.1 didn't change the baseband, it was a security update and "battery fix".

IIRC, Apple released 9A405, which didn't include a baseband update.. but then roughly a week to 2 weeks ago, they put out a newer 5.0.1, which was 9A406, which did have a baseband update. Whether it will be installed on A5 devices I do not know.. but that's the risk now with updating. I would say that you're safe if you have an A5 device, but it's a roll of the dice for anything older..

so what you are saying is that by checking the custom ipsw, redsnow willl automatically create a customer firmware? I remember i used to download the firmware and then create the custom.

Sorry, If i dont make sense.

I wasn't aware they released a new version of 5.0.1 with a BB update. Thanks!

-just did some research on 9A406, and that was the fix for "no-sim" I haven't found anything about it updating BB yet, but will update again when I find out.

-Ok, seems like 9A406 is only for iPhone 4S users, it won't affect those on older devices.

well yes, you have to download stock 5.0.1 for your device, then update iTunes, and download the latest redsn0w.

Open redsn0w click extras, make custom firmware. It will make a firmware that should start with "NO_BB_iPhone"

Then you will want to put your phone in DFU, close redsn0w and open iTunes.

Option click "restore" and make sure you select the correct ipsw... starts with "NO_BB_iPhone" and it will update while preserving BB

**forgot to say... pretty sure redsn0w can only make custom ipsw on macs at the moment. That feature should be coming to the windows version soon.

I'll find the link for it.. I'm pretty sure it was on one of the other sites (9to5, cultofmac, etc.). It might have even been on pod2g's blog.

Waiting on a response from either MN, Dev-Team or pod2g on if it's okay to update my 4S to 5.0.1 now. I don't want to miss the boat if 5.0.2 is released. I'd rather be on 5.0.1 than 5.0 at that point.

there is basically no difference between 5.0 and 5.0.1. It was a battery fix and a bug fix for docs in iCloud. Update to 5.0.1 now if you want... it's not going to hurt you. It's also not going to hurt you to stay at 5.0 if you don't have the battery problems.

5.0.2 will just be a security fix to block the jailbreak.

I just checked the iclarified tutorial and according to them, this JB will update your BB?

Check it out http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=18991

and if you want to do the custom ipsw, it is still in tethered JB mode right now.

Can you please confirm?

yes if you follow the steps outlined in their tutorial, it will update your baseband. However, if you do a custom ipsw firmware as I have outlined, you will preserve baseband.

AFAIK, the jailbreak will be untethered now that there is an untether available.

It's not really hard to do, just download the stock ipsw, itunes, and redsn0w.

Open redsn0w and click extras, custom ipsw, and navigate to the stock ipsw you downloaded earlier. redsn0w will make a custom ipsw for you that will be titled "NO_BB_iPhone....."

Click pwnd DFU, and follow the steps to get your phone into DFU.

Open iTunes, and option click "restore" then navigate to the "NO_BB_iPhone..." file

On the Greenpois0n blog in the comments section they advised someone to update their 4s to 5.0.1 I'm really nervous about doing this. I can't help but want to stay on 5.0 but I'm nervous about missing the boat now.

What to do? (I'm not really asking just thinking out loud) What are other people doing?

Currently, I'm using an untethered jailbreak for 4.2.8. Can I just run redsn0w to update to a jailbreak for 5.0.1 or what else do I need to do?

it doesn't matter... the untether works on 5.0 and 5.0.1 so use whichever one you are on. If you want to update to 5.0.1 that's fine too... the untether still works.

no you will have to update to 5.0.1, then do the jailbreak.
