Does the game only contain generation one pokemon?

I've just noticed that all of the pokemon in the screenshots and people's comments are from generation one... haven't seen any mentions of pokemon from generation two or any of the many generations that I'm unfamiliar with.

Wait, you mean I have to get off my couch to play this game?

I believe right now, it's only Gen 1. But they said they will add newer gens later. Considering there's over 720 different Pokémon, probably over 800 with Sun and Moon coming at year's end, I can see them slowly adding them.

But you doing that has almost NO effect on other players, unlike Ingress where it has EVERY effect on other players. If a kid wants to do that, it won't ruin my game experience. If a kid wants to spoof in Ingress and take down a field we threw over North America, it undoes hundreds of hours of work with dozens of agents.
I would have though they would limit the number of rare pokemons though? BUt yeah I understand what you are trying to say about it not ruining your gameplay.

How is that their fault? Any app can cause you to do this.

People need to stop suing and take better care of their kids, or not have kids at all.

That was my point. People are already sue-crazy, and constantly glued to their phone. It's only a matter of time before some careless parent starts suing whoever made this app, I guarantee it.

Who knows... they did not mess with legendaries during the beta. I've got no clue how they intend on handling them.

Well, it's more important than Apple's prehistorically outdated, absurdly over priced computers.
Watch bands, streaming *rap, emojis and Pokemons are where it's at mon.
Please try to keep up. /s

It's nothing short of amazing to me how toxic macrumors has become. These forums are like the YouTube Comments of the Mac-centric world, and I find myself coming to the site less and less. (I may be a newbie, but I've been following for decades and a Mac User since the late 80's, by the way.)

Overall, I don't even disagree with the spirit of the comment. But like Mom used to say: "It's not what you say, it's how you say it!" And by the way, the Nintendo brand and Pokemon franchise is one of the biggest phenomenons in the gaming world and I mean world as in "not just North America". The overall picture may be bleak, but this is a historic release. I could say more but I'd just be contributing to the tone I referenced above.

I'm looking forward to trying this out. I've read battery drain is insanely bad on this, but they are trying to fix. Either way it's not something I plan to use a lot.

Augmented reality, eh? Look! There's Pikachu right in front of that bus! Oops! BAAAAMMM! (User Agreement: To play this game we take no responsibility for kids walking into traffic or falling down wells)

Finally some App Store innovation. The casino style games rampant in the App Store has been done to death, glad something fresh is here.
It doesn't look as compelling to me as Ingress, which is Niantic's previous/first game, and is still going strong (we had several thousand agents battling it out in real time in downtown San Diego at the Aegis Nova anomaly a week and a half ago - the Enlightened won the day over the Resistance, but it was quite a battle). All the location data for where minor landmarks and such are in Pokemon Go? That all came from Ingress players. ;) It's an amazing ongoing/realtime game of capturing territory and will show you all sorts of interesting places in your city that you didn't know existed. (Should you happen to check out Ingress, join the Enlightened - we have more fun, and green is the color of Kermit, the Hulk, and Yoda; blue is the color of... Smurfs.)

I wonder how much of a hit Ingress is going to take when people start playing this.
I don't see a lot of Ingress players jumping ship to this. Looks like considerably different gameplay and feel. I don't see this appealing to the same folks - which I suppose is good for Niantic - rather than cannibalizing the Ingress players, they get a largely new group of players.

Funny, we have that happen regularly in Ingress - new players getting on the comms channel, saying, "hey, I can't get my player to move" and we have to say, "you have to get up, and go OUTSIDE, into the big blue room!"

Also, be sure to as for your free "septuacentennial cupcake in a cup!"

It's sad that we have to give some kids a device to have them go outside, when I was young I couldn't get out the front door fast enough.

It's not just kids - I'm waaay past kid age, and the first week I played Ingress, I accidentally ended up walking 45 miles. (But I do get your point.)

are they actually based on your location and stuff like that? like water pokemon only close to water or certain pokemon only appear during the day / nighz?

Thanks for the background to it!

Now I might actually have to try that one!

The app, the program itself is available for free. *additional content* may be purchased if you so desire.

OBVIOUSLY. It's a philosophical thing. Facebook isn't free, either. You are "giving" your mindshare to Facebook to sell to advertisers, so you're getting taken advantage of. And a "free" app that is really just a platform for selling you "content" isn't really free - it's a marketing scheme to sell you stuff. Nothing is free.
