When you want to upgrade from 256 to 500 GB they ask for $400!!! I mean on Amazon you can get a FULL 500GB SSD for $180 and thats retail price!

OWC has some fantastic SSD drives, often times 100% compatible with all features of OS X and even faster. I've replaced all my apple disks with theirs over the years and WAY less expensive.

I pretty much order Apple parts with this in mind upgrading important non-replacable things like CPU and RAM and taking the lower end SSDs. After upgrade, the Apple SSD can go into an enclosure and be a fancy USB disk.

If you think Apple is switching places with MS I suggest you take a look at the specs and the prices of the products they just announced the other day in comparison to the new MacBookPros. If you still seem to think things are so bad then maybe you should patronize them instead and really put your money where your mouth is.

I'm voting with my wallet too. I bought an iPhone 7 and I also bought the brand new 15" MBP. The iPhone 7 is the best smartphone i've ever had, I'm glad the audio jack is dead, and I'm glad all the old crap ports on the MBP are dead also. I'm happy to support Apple in their path to the future instead of being perpetually constrained by the technology of the past.

Somebody drank the apple kool-aid so hard...

I'm on the maybe team ...

I sold my early 2011 13" MBP over a year ago and saved up one year of work + 2 birthdays + MBP profits so I have the money but it pains me to pay that much. I really didn't anticipate the price hike, didn't even care about design but wanted to buy a future proof machine.

Now I have mixed feelings : yesterday was a big no and I started looking at alternatives (XPS etc) but i really don't want to go away from the OS X ...

I think i'll just wait for the machine to get out in stores and watch the first reviews, see what the "popular" issues /gates are and then make up my mind (what is 2 more months anyway, now that we've waited that long).

Based on Apple's event yesterday, I do think Apple announced a great upgrade to the MacBook Pro, I don't think that this laptop is for everyone. As someone who at university edited video and still does occasionally for friends (I'm a writer so video editing isn't my bread and butter) I think these MacBook Pro's will be great, I know at least 3 people who will be buying them after seeing the Touch Bar, and especially what we saw with Final Cut Pro. The price is high but I do think these are for the pro users and not the average consumer, Apple made that clear which yesterday's event.

Hey all. I pre-ordered the 15inch mbp with 512 gb 2.7 and 460.... butttt yesterday when I couldn't sleep, I saw a Dell xps 15 with 4kscreen, 32 gb ddr4 ram, 1 tb ssd 960m for 1569... and I bit. I keep going back and forth!

No for the 2016 models.

Maybe for the future models from 2018 or later when specs improved, more refinements after a revamp, and prices go down.

Nope, my 2010 MadBook Pro will not be replaced with an overpriced underspecced Apple machine. I'll stick to iOS only from Apple now, at least they have some grunt for the money..

If I get another laptop it would possibly be the new Alienware 15" as it's astounding value for money, an Nvidia 1060 for the price of the baseline 13" MacBook Pro!
But I'm really taken with the new Surface Studio.. can see playing Starcraft 2 on that gorgeous screen now haha.

And why do people expect prices to go down? They still sell the Mac Pro with three year old tech in it for the exact same price as three years ago!

What I find interesting is that everyone is complaining about Apple releasing the new MacBook Pro with Sky lake but nobody is saying a word about the new Microsoft Core i7 and Surface Studio also being just released with Sky lake. Everyone makes I out that Apple is the only one using Skylake when Microsoft just released their new computers running Skylake.

Guess people just need a reason to complain.

Ha do you enjoy listening to music on your iPhone 7, getting to your desk and wanting to listen on the laptop, and having to pull out a SEPARATE pair of head phones to accomplish this?

New (US) prices are crazy. The new 13" (with touchbar) is a $500 jump relative to the prior 13" entry model, and $400 for the 15". Even without the touchbar, the entry 13" is up $200, and the OLD tech (which was ALREADY expensive) has no discount at all. The MBA is not an option, given the ridiculous screen. Very disappointed, not shopping.

No - Apple removed most of what made a MacBook a MacBook with these new machines. Nice keyboard? Gone. Magsafe? Gone. Any semblance of affordability? Gone. I can not justify buying a machine that is glued together - I'm a heavy battery user, and someone who depends on expandability. Maybe I could have compromised with the old Pro, but so many things in this new model, for example the lack of HDMI, the lack of SD card reader, the lack of quad core or discrete graphics options on the 13 inch model all kill off that chance.

I think I've purchased my last MacBook Pro.

Because when you watch the ad for it, you think "holy mother ****ing cow that is insane, omg that spinning wheel! That is a super charged super large iPad Pro! But better, since it runs whatever i want!". You don't even care about specs, you just want it. If I had any artistic flair, I would buy one and stand outside redmond everyday asking how my Surface Studio is doing and when I can take it home.

When you see Apple keynote, you think "They replaced keys with a bar? Spell correction in the bar, it hardly works on the iPhone when switching languages constantly. You want me to browse photos using 32x32 pixel images? Meh. Omg, now they go on about emoji's again. Ok, a demo, maybe it brings some slight value, going to check it out in a store, but still not happy about my esc key. Ok, another demo... That girl with pony tails is nice. OK, COULD YOU STOP THOSE DEMOS NOW? Maybe I'll upgra... HOLY **** THOSE PRICES"

Summed up perfectly my emotional journey yesterday : from watching the Studio ad before the event to the actual keynote and price reveal !

Ha nicely captures it for me. I did however place an order for a 13 inch as my current macbook air is just maddeningly too slow for some functions that I do for my job. I simply can't wait any longer, but to me Windows 10 isn't in a state that makes me want it. It's their best operating system by a massive margin, and in 2 years it might even be a great OS. I use it at least a few times every week, virtualized using vmware, and there's plenty of areas that annoy me.

I just frankly don't know what to do at this point. On balance I guess I'll eat the inflated Mac fee for now

Like I said it isn't about the Skylake or Kaby Lake chips being used in either one because if it was everyone would be b!tch!ng at Microsoft about using old technology. The price really isn't that much more either as I was pricing out a MacBook Pro before and it is only a couple hundred dollars more not a couple thousand. I just find it interesting as I stated before that everyone is judging Micro$oft under a different criteria than they are Apple. As for the spinning wheel, it is an accessory that is not just for the Surface Studio. Nobody knows what Apple is doing with the iMac at this point.

Could they have done more? Possibly.....but I think even if they had put Kaby Lake in the new MacBook Pro with 64GB of RAM, the latest and greatest video card, etc. there are a lot of people hat would still find a reason to bash it. In my humble opinion it just seems like there are people today that are not happy unless they are complaining and who better to be the target of your complaint than the biggest target in the world at Apple.

Just my .02 cents.

I was really hoping for 32gb and DDR4, I was really disappointed to be hit with 16gb ddr3, and the Radeon 460? Probably fine, but I was hoping for a BTO/CTO option of higher.

I'm probably purchasing, but not right away, before the end of the year though.

I was planning to get an Air or 13" when the new ones came out.
Been waiting a long time.

Not buying the new 13".
Between the Lack of Ports, Price, Already Outdated Internals I have more than enough reasons not to.

I'll think about it if there is a price drop or when Kaby comes out.
By that time hopefully usb-c will have come along more. Which right now it's looking like it's still years off.

This, in addition to the price is what stops me upgrading. Hell they even swapped the side the headphone jack is on in this model!

Currently have the 2016 rMB m3 and wanted to sell it to get the new MacBook Pro, but I'm going to wait until the unboxing/reviews start coming out to make a decision. I have been eyeing on that Lenovo Yoga 910 that just came out as well.

Somebody drank the apple kool-aid so hard...

At least I'm doing something substantive rather than bitching on an Internet forum about something I won't buy. I thought logically about my needs and likely specs for the Pro and it slightly exceeded my expectations. I set a budget more than a month ago based on 2015 Pro prices and the cost of the Pro ended up being $23 less than the budget.

The fact that my purchases help Apple and posting about it pisses of haters and trolls on the forums is just icing.

Tell me, how soon will you make your windows pc purchase?
