I was waiting on the announcement ever since I knocked my MBP onto the concrete floor and now have a portion of my screen that doesn't work.

I'm not as concerned about the price, because it seems pretty in line with Apple (more expensive than it should be, but comparable to the past). But...the ports. Seriously. So, now I will need all new cables for everything. Hard drives. Monitors. Mouse. Printer. Tablet. I feel like I'm buying a whole new host of adapters every year to keep up with Apple's incessant need to constantly change. I have multiple power adapters for home, work, and travel. Now, I need all new power adapters, too. And the headphone jack on the right side? Come on, now!

Yeah...I don't know. I wanted to get one, but now I'm not sure what to do.

I'm really coveting the new 15" models. Unfortunately, my late-2013 MBP 13" is working just perfectly.

May have to find someone to hand it down to. Hmmmm..... I think my daughter's 2012 11" MBA might suddenly die a gruesome death!

But seriously - I want to play with one of the 15" models in store before I drop $2800 on one, but boy they look nice. Debating about the size (15" vs 13") -- but I don't think the new 13" models are $2200 better than my current 13", so I hesitate to consider a new 13" model.

Nope! I still feel strangely content with my late-2013. It's held up really well over the last three years and fulfills its duty of helping me get my schoolwork done perfectly. It's a stark contrast to my 2009 that I used all the time when I first got it (when I still had a flip phone). That poor laptop got some really weird quirks about a year and a half after I got it and had to be retired from full time use after four years.

And honestly I'm not sure I need the touch bar or anything like that, and I don't like the idea of having to buy $50 dongles to use my accessories.

Suffice to say I'm good for another year or more. My iPhone 5 is much closer to needing to be replaced.

Hey all. I pre-ordered the 15inch mbp with 512 gb 2.7 and 460.... butttt yesterday when I couldn't sleep, I saw a Dell xps 15 with 4kscreen, 32 gb ddr4 ram, 1 tb ssd 960m for 1569... and I bit. I keep going back and forth!
Where did you get XPS that cheap..1569??

Seriously looking at other options Surface Book is looking strong for my need on the go. It`s not the pricing with Apple it`s the value the hardware now represents...

I was really hoping for 32gb and DDR4, I was really disappointed to be hit with 16gb ddr3, and the Radeon 460? Probably fine, but I was hoping for a BTO/CTO option of higher.

I'm probably purchasing, but not right away, before the end of the year though.

Unless I'm mistaken that is DDR4

Thanks. Everyday a school day.

Didn't realise they had just clocked the DDR3. Saw it was 2133mhz and thought it must be DDR4

That's bad form then. :(

Ultimately, the Touch Bar is just a piece of hardware. And these days, if you want the hardware to be any good, you need a killer app. Most of the stuff shown on the Touch Bar so far isn't anything you can't do onscreen or with the old Fn keys. But I think given time, we could see some cool stuff on it. It has the potential. I just hope it doesn't take as long as it did with the Apple Watch. To me, the Apple Watch is still more of a toy than a useful tool, but I hope the Touch Bar can move beyond that stage.

I doubt that. According to the human guide of touch bar by apple. Anything on touch bar must not be unique. Or saying, developer should treat those devices that has no touch bar equally. So at least, apps in app store won't do anything you expected. If they do, apple will not let them on the market.

Yeah, I was super surprised, they didn't mention the specification of basically any item *in* the computer... they focused entirely on the TouchBar which doesn't even propagate over the entire line...?

My perspective might be somewhat unusual, given that I have never owned a Mac of any description.

I intended to purchase the new fully loaded MBP 15 to enter Apple's ecosystem entirely, as I already have an iPhone and iPad and have enjoyed them immensely. My experience with other products of a similar nature to the latter to is no way near as good as Apple, and so I've been converted.

However, I really do feel that the extinguished Apple logo sums up my feelings towards the massive price hike. Someone else used a fantastic analogy here, which was that Apple has always been a 'BMW' company. Expensive, but if you save, it's probably affordable. However, these new prices are into super car territory, and I almost feel insulted that Apple thinks its £4,000 price tag for a top end MacBook Pro 15 is somehow reasonable.

I still intend to purchase a MacBook, but I'm seriously considering purchasing the previous model instead. My only concern is that I am still paying a big price for what may become seriously outdated technology in five years time, which is worrying.

I'm not sure if others share my thoughts in this regard, or if there are others in a similar position, but my feeling is that I was all for purchasing the new line up, but simply can't justify the price.

I'm in the same boat as you. literally I haven't seen a usb-c connector in my life. but I bought the new MacBook Pro just for the all usb-c design. why? because usb-c is enevitable. everything is going to be using it in the next 3-4 years. and I want to be futureproof. sure I'll have to buy cables for my hard drives/printers/iPhone/converters/etc but I'm excited for the future of having a reversible do all connector.

Still in 2 minds

In regards to the 15 inch 2016 mbp need some advice on configuration

Is it better to go for the base 2.6 ghz processor and bump up amd radeon 460 or go for the slightly bumped up 2.7 ghz processor with the amd radeon 455?

Grateful for any advice thanks

Sticker shock:

This is the new 13" MBP that I have been toying with buying:
2.9 GHz dual core i5
16 GB RAM
512 GB SSD
3.0 pounds
= $3207 Canadian taxes in, but without pricing in Apple Care and dongles.
Yikes. Nice machine and very adequate for my needs, but I need to think hard about this. I need a laptop, but switching back to Windows just to get a cheaper laptop carries additional costs and means giving up on the Apple ecosystem, which is a pretty darned convenient place to be if I can afford to stay in it.

There is a refurb 2015 13" MBP with the same CPU and RAM but 1 TB SSD for only about $300 less; 3.5 pounds (half a pound heavier), TB2 and slow USB ports. Not really an option for only $300 saving.

[The new 15":
2.6 GHz quad core i7
16 GB RAM
512 GB SSD
=$3725 Canadian taxes in, without Apple Care and new dongles. More machine than I need.]

Update:
Five years ago we bought a 2010 15" MBP for $2500 Canadian including taxes:
2.7 GHz i5 dual core
4 GB RAM
500 GB spinner hard drive
5.6 pounds
So maybe $700 more five years later for better technology isn't quite so painful. I guess.

And that year we also bought a 2010 13" MacBook (white) for C$1,300:
2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM
320 GB SATA spinner hard drive
4 pounds
I recently upgraded it to 16 GM RAM and a 500 GB SSD drive -- it ran fine for several months functioning as a desktop driving two big monitors until a temp sensor on the logic board failed. The thing still runs with software to control the fan but it is not reliable.

Will def explore new MBP with touch pad at Apple store. Not sure if I'll buy until I actually see it demonstrated at the store. My 13" mid 2010 MBP still going strong, but may make the leap to the new.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't have them. But to get rid of literally every other connector (except the right-side headphone jack) isn't "future-proofing" it, it's making it "anti-current". Really, I think it' just another excuse to sell even more adapters for the Apple Adapter Company™.

Since yesterday's event, there have been allot of comments regarding the MacBook Pros new line up and I think it will be interesting to see how the latest news on their features, prices and company direction have affected you as a consumer. Please choose the option that you feel applies to you

I'd like another poll option:

"No, I'm going to wait until the technology is stable, with more devices supporting USB-C / TB3 and more OSX apps supporting the touchbar".

Order in for 2.6 i7 15in MBP with 512Gb SSD. Do I like the price, no I don't. As I'm upgrading from a late 2008 Unibody with a 2.4 C2D, I feel like I've had my money's worth, especially as I'm still running photoshop and Lightroom with no real issues, aside from the abject speed.

Yep, best to try it, as it's first gen. I liked Apple Watch until I tried it in a store, it seemed too laggy. Hopefully the touch bar is more advanced (it comes with watchOS by the way)

After seeing the prices, I'm going to see if the current Macbook's, in particular the MacBook Air, drops (quite a bit) in price.

A lot of posts seem to say that the price of a current MacBook Air and a NEW MackBook Pro, are very close, and one should buy the latest. However, with the omission of certain ports, leaves one thinking to stick with the current models. I'd hate to have to worry about dongles and the likes...

Apple seem to have designed the 2016 MBP for the office of the future.

I work in the office of today. Sticking with my 2015 RMBP.

If Apple folks are really hanging out in these forums under cover, they must be totally confused. People scream about no updates, complain about "ancient" technology in Macs, cry when this ancient technology is removed from new models, whine about no innovation and get angry about innovation that they are certain is useless before even trying it.

Wanted to get away from Microsoft and their Windows 10 as a service user unfriendly system, so I was REALLY looking forward to the MBP but for now:

*No. The proposed value is lacking in features or the removal of them.

Buttefly keyboard = to quote SJ "yach"
2 TB slots of the future in the present? Nope
gimped non touchbar version? Bad decision
1.699 € for a baseline model of 13'inch with only 2 slots = yach ²

For a bit more I'm seriously considering this: http://www.dell.com/de/p/xps-15-9550-laptop/pd?oc=cnx5537&model_id=xps-15-9550-laptop

512 GB SSD, all the ports I need, 16 gig Ram DDR 4 expandable up to 32 GB, quad core cpu for € 1.749
