that's teh only attraction of mexican coke, and it's pretty expensive, so it'd be nice if it were available cheaper.
The real culprit in Cola is caffeine, which dehydrates you, making you more thirsty.Shamus said:Good point. Most soft drinks or energy drinks contain sodium, which will soak water and cause thirst again. Also, we still dont know exactly what 7X is in Coca-Cola....![]()

blackfox said:While I agree with the larger point of your post, it has long bugged me what a bad name sugar gets.
What the hell is wrong with sugar?
blackfox said:Now too much sugar can be bad, I'm sure - but is pharmaceutically-designed sugar substitute going to be better for you? I'd put my money on no.
~Shard~ said:You're kidding right? I could name 100 things that are bad about sugar. (And obviously I'm not talking about naturally occuring sugars, but the refined crap that is in all our foods, soft drinks, etc.)
In suammary, how about obesity, diabetes and cancer?
Here's an expanded list for ya off the top of my head. I'll shrink them down so they don't take up too much space...
Sugar lowers your immune system
Sugar causes a loss of tissue elasticity and function (the more sugar you eat the more elasticity and function you lose i.e. you age faster)
Sugar can produce a significant rise in triglycerides
Sugar reduces high density lipoproteins
Sugar leads to chromium deficiency
Sugar can increase fasting levels of glucose
Sugar causes copper deficiency
Sugar interferes with absorption of calcium
Sugar can weaken eyesight (myopia, specifically)
Sugar raises the level of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine (neurotransmitters, if you're not familiar with them)
Sugar can cause hypoglycemia
As I said above, sugar contributes to obesity (your body turns sugar into fat)
High intake of sugar increases the risk of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis
Sugar can cause asthma (I'm living proof of this one since I had horrible asthma as a kid which I have since cured due to my lifestyle changes)
Sugar can cause a decrease in insulin sensitivity (as I said above, diabetes)
Sugar can increase cholesterol
Sugar can increase your systolic blood pressure
Sugar can interfere with the absorption of protein
Sugar can cause headaches, including migraines
Yikes, I could go on and on...
As I said, I'm living proof of many of the above. When I changed my diet and lifestyle and cut out all that crap (chips, soft drinks, fast food, etc.) the changes were amazing. I've never felt healthier or have been in better shape.
Of course it isn't - those are worse in some cases!
The long and the short of it is that if refined sugar was released as a new product in this day and age, it would be considered a drug and wouldn't be approved by the FDA.![]()

Dare I say that sugar is Chuck Norris' arch-nemesis?

~Shard~ said:Heh heh. I agree, everything in moderation. However drinking a can of pop which has a truckload of sugar in it is not moderation for me.![]()
I treat myself from time to time, don't get me wrong, (you have to live after all!) but I also care about my health, and I have personally experienced what a difference making healthy choices can do for a person.
It just surprises me how many poeple out there either have a complete disregard for their own health, or don't make time time to educate themselves on such important things so they at least know what they're doing is bad for them, even if they still choose to do it.
Wait 10 years then get back to us on that metabolism of yours...Diatribe said:Luckily I was blessed with a metabolism that withstands even the strongest attacks of ice cream, pizza, burgers, chips and tacos.![]()
Interesting. So far, I seem to be the exception to this rule - I am healthy, with low blood pressure, good eyesight, healthy breathing (except I smoke), I am thin and look 10 years younger than my age.~Shard~ said:You're kidding right? I don't really like sweet things (ie candy, cake, soda), however, but love to pile on the sugar in my coffee and cereal.
