unfortunately I'm thinking they are probably real. Apple like their external antenna design which they raved so much about so it doesn't surprise me they'd keep it. Just elongating the screen makes it bigger but doesn't mess too much with exisiting apps nor make the phone too big. I watch each apple announcement with excitement yet in recent times they are mostly a disappointemtn for me. The elongated iphone fits with apples current philosophy, just like the mediocre iOS6 update (from what we know so far). I think we'll get LTE (useless in the UK) and NFC and a better camera and more speed but I don't see apple pushing the pace any more.

Personally I don't see these leaks being from apple to throw people off the scent. iOS6 disappointed people, now the elongated iphone is. People are already leaving to go to android or win mob (personally I am very close to picking up an S3) so if anything apple need to speed up release or show us something good rather than leaking 'fakes'. Slipping from a summer release to an october one means many people who didn't get a 4s are on a 4 or 3GS even and are desparate for a change. For the vast majority the badly designed home button probably barely works and something special might be needed not to jump ship!

I totally agree they need to announce something soon b.c tons of people are jumping ship solely b.c they want a new phone NOW!

doesnt the non retina macbook pro have the same design of like 4 years?

Yes, but that's a computer, not a phone. We're talking about cell phones. Have any of Apple's legit iPhone competitors kept the exact same design for 3-4 years? I can't think of any but I could be wrong.

People haven't come to expect a refresh of a computer's externals every year (or close to it) like they have with phones.

Is there really an Android phone that looks as sleek, high-quality, high-finish as the iphone 4 or what the iphone 5 looks like it could be? I still don't think so. Android's new OS seems finally on par with Apple's (if not better on some aspects), but the Iphone is unmatched on design and built quality, please.

Galaxy SIII or the One X come to mind...

I believe the rumors just because this has happened with just about every iPhone since it's conception, and it's always turned out to be essentially accurate barring a few minor details here and there.

That said, I think there will be a OMT, and that would be an iPhone mini or something. There's always been rumors about this, but the reason I think the time is ripe is because they very so obviously paved the way for this with iPad...calling it the new iPad instead of iPad 3.

Also I don't even know what they would call it. This iPhone shouldn't be called iPhone 5 - it should be called the iPhone 6 or something haha.

everyone says surprise us again....when was the last time they surprised us? I can't think of the last time we went into an apple keynote and got more then we expected. they've all been pretty much exactly what all the leaks said or less. I believe all the leaks are correct and we will get a longer 4" iphone thats thinner because it wont have the added width of the glass on front and back. They will make it look really good and they will sell a zillion. the people that complain will still eventually buy one. end of story.

This was pretty much RIM's philosophy with the Blackberry line. Worked for a while and then eventually caught up with them. I can only hope that Apple and Tim Cook are smarter than this....Android is becoming to Apple what Apple was to RIM. In this business you either innovate or you eventually disappear. End of story.

It seems that to many people here, "innovating" means a new design just for the sake of a new design. I don't think that makes sense.

Also, the thing about bb is that they fell behind clearly superior (in terms of functionality) competitors. That's not what's happening here.

You don't believe that Android is becoming functionally superior to iOS? Seriously?

That's not to say that iOS doesn't still have some advantages...but every year those advantages are becoming fewer and fewer while Android's advantages continue to increase. That's why you're seeing and increasing number of threads in the MacRumors iPhone forum about Android devices. People are beginning to notice that iOS isn't as advanced compared to the competition as it used to be. And yes, the same thing happened to Blackberry.

generally i hate apple products have iphone 4s but really hate it.I think money got wasted.too much over priced with so less features.Othersmart phones are far better. Therefore not interested in any of their future products.

I'm going to buy it no matter what they throw out so no use in giving my opinion..... I am so deep in the Apple eco system at this point that it doesn't make sense to buy any other mobile OS. Plus I skipped the 4S...

yukkk

u r rit dude...
me too fade up of using apple 4s...
i feel vomiting when i see my iphone every morning

Its good you missed it.Very bad product.Once i was a big apple fan used to shut people up by just saying apple. But after using 4s my views changed.

It's posts like this that make me long for the days of the down vote.

I hope that's not what apple rolls out, but the physical design won't be my top decision-making factor. If I buy the next iPhone, it will likely be in my possession through iOS8. There are lots of features likely to roll out over 2 years, esp. if apple actually tries to keep up with the competition. :apple: So if the phone looks hardware limited, I won't buy it. I need a forward looking phone, not one only optimized for so-far-boring iOS6.

Why is everyone prejudging? What we have seen so far are ugly mockups, a few components, and fan-made renders.

All we are "pretty sure" of is that it will have a taller screen and maybe a different dock connector.

We don't know anything regarding:
- Battery life
- Screen resolution
- NFC
- Camera
- Other new hardware features
- iPhone 5 specific features in iOS6

I plan to make the switch from Android to iOS when this new phone comes out. I haven't tried JB yet, but ICS on the Nexus S 4G is 'meh'.

I don't want the enormous screen of the Galaxy Nexus, the new taller screen actually looks quite useful. See more without it seeming bigger.

Some ideas.

Couple things:

-The back with the top and bottom "caps" might actually be a surface for something. Whether it's some kind of wireless transfer, wireless charging or something else I'm not sure but that empty space could be used for "something".

-It looks blackened with soot now but maybe they were looking at a ebonized aluminum edge which could look understated and classy if done right.

-It doesn't just look taller, it's slightly wider too.

-I suspect this is what we might get. However, this might be a rev 1 and the "real" case design is "rev 2" that gets revealed at the last second. Unlikely I know.

You have got to be kidding me? Most of the features Android has that iOS doesnt is silly gimmick stuff. Facial Recognition that doesnt work? They are trying to copy siri from every angle. The only thing apple is playing catchup on is Maps/GPS. Google has catching up of its own to do just on simple stuff like cutting down on fragmentation and making sure its flagship devices get new updates before they are no longer flagship devices anymore. You can't compare apple and google to apple and rim. rim was dead in the water the second apple stepped in the phone market. google copied apple to get in the market just to expand their advertising. I would like someone to break down android into all the things it contains that google sells to advertisers. that would be a wakeup call to most people. Apple strives to make the best products google strives to steal the most information to sell to advertisers.

You completely missed the point of what I wrote. I was responding initially to a post saying that people will continuously buy the next iPhone no matter what. So I said that RIM had the same philosophy and the company sat on their laurels and it eventually caught up with them. There's no denying that Android has been developing at a significantly more rapid pace than iOS over the past 2-3 years and if that trend continues THEN Apple will be in trouble.

I never said that Apple is the same as RIM right now. I'm saying they need to continue to innovate and develop their hardware and software or will ultimately face the same fate.

I really hope this is some sort of trick from Apple. Perhaps the leaked parts are actually old iPhone 4(S) prototypes (which never made it).

Tim Cook said Apple was doubling down on secrecy.. but so far he hasn't proven it.

As I said, I really hope Apple is deliberately throwing us off track and surprises us with a design really different from the iPhone 4.

And a lot of people weren't bashing on the leaked iPhone 4 design. I personally loved it when I first saw it on Gizmodo. This new iPhone design, however, is horrible (in my opinion).
I felt the same way. When I first saw the lost prototype, I was fervently hoping that it would be want we'd get. Fast forward more than 2 years and this slightly stretched design does not work for me. I'm hoping that we'll get something else, but I fear this will be it.

If this is what we get this year and the rumored iPad Nano is unveiled without a retina display, I will be one extremely disappointed Apple fan.

No, I don't think that will be the end of the story. Sure, they will sell plenty of them, but this will just one more reason for many to get a different phone. I think we will see the iPhone's share of the market get slimmer and slimmer in the days ahead.

IMO there is a difference With what happened to RIM. When iPhone and android came out they could do everything better. Full web, bigger screens, apps, touch interface ect. There was a big difference. With IOS and android they do the same things with some minor differences. Even if apple is slower then android they will not fall like RIM when we have basically reach the plateau of what a phone can do.
