I can remember when I loved my Blackberry. Then I received the first iPad as a gift and thought "wow, this thing has such great build quality and interface" and knew I needed to check out iPhone. I even switched carriers
so I could have the iPhone 4 on release. Blackberry quit innovating and got left behind. Now I am an Apple fan and all
my gadgets are Apple. That being said, iPhone is starting to feel stale. It pains me to admit it but the OS seems a step behind Android and the screen needs to be larger, not just vertically stretched. Not huge mind you but larger. It is telling that there are so many loyal Apple enthusiasts on this forum trying out Android phones. Don't remember that being a major theme even 8-9 months ago. Apple needs to bring it.

Is there really an Android phone that looks as sleek, high-quality, high-finish as the iphone 4 or what the iphone 5 looks like it could be? I still don't think so. Android's new OS seems finally on par with Apple's (if not better on some aspects), but the Iphone is unmatched on design and built quality, please.

Galaxy s3. Only android phone I've seen that looks nicer then the 4

I'm going to buy it no matter what they throw out so no use in giving my opinion.....

It is exsctly this type of attitude that enables Apple to rest on their laurels and "mail it in" with a half-assed effort. If they know people are going to buy it regardless, then they have nothing driving them to try harder. They know they can get away with slapping Siri on the iPhone4 and calling it a new phone.

Becoming complacent because "they know people will buy it anyway" is a dangerous business philosophy. This lull in Apple innovation and development could potentially end up disappointing many Apple fans & customers.

What lull?

Siri +

Better Camera Lense
Faster Camera shutter
Dual core GPU
Dual core CPU
Dual Antenna
8hrs of talk time
HSPA+ GSM support
8-megapixel camera
CDMA/GSM World phone
Bluetooth 4.0
1080p HD video recording

So now, you sit there and tell me the 4S and 4 are the same phone...

Maybe they can get the iphone to connect to 5ghz wifi networks?

or can it already do that?

What lull?

This lull that has caused them to release basically the same phone for the past 2-3 years with only minor improvements / enhancements. I'm sorry, but there is nothing innovative about a better camera, better CPU, battery life, etc. Those types of incremental improvements are expected on any new phone that supersedes the previous phone. A better battery is not groundbreaking or innovative. Nor is upping the GB storage capacity or CPU, camera megapixels, etc.

My gripe is that IF the next iPhone is *just* taller, Apple will prol see how it sells then make the decision to do a "S" version or not. THEN make a taller AND wider version.

You know they will eventually go to an all around larger size, I just dont want to be a part of a company milking us one or two rounds of releases THEN giving us the larger phone, at least during that period.

Man im really jealous of the size of these other phones. I only hope that the next iPhone will compete in all around size.

The every other year refresh model has been nothing but successful for Apple and consumers. It's not going anywhere.

I know that well. I've had every iPhone since the first one - and on the first day of release.........Im just sayin' I dont want to wait two years (releases) before eventually getting a larger all around - sized phone - which will more than likely happen anyway.

So you want them to make each iPhone look completely different, even though the way it looks adds nothing to the phone? Instead of picking a great design and improving it, you want new designs all the time?

And how can improved internals not be innovation? Your pov makes no sense.

I'm sure the influx of Android devices hitting the market on a weekly basis (at least it seems that way) should provide some motivation.... I know Apple never really worries about what the competition is doing, but I find it hard to believe that they aren't keeping track.

Lets just cut to the chase: The new iPhone will have a better camera(s), a faster processor(s), the new OS, and a larger screen. I don't see it being any larger than 4". I qualify that by saying it won't be the monstrosity that a 5" screen would be...

The design, well I'm guessing rectangular with metal and glass.

But, I'm just spitballing here.:D

I agree and Tim Cook will hold up the elongated 4" iPhone (5) like a proud father and that will be that because they can then say "yes, we have a 4" phone too". Sure, the elongated 4" screen will be better than what we have now, but it will be just a little bit better. And only in one direction.

I am hoping for a surprise in the design for the new iPhone, I held my 4S next to my SGS3 and TBH it looks and feels quite chunky and outdated, I have in the past been like many here, believed that Apple outdo the competition in every way, I still believe, in many respects, that they still do, I have two mobile phone accounts (mine and my wife's) both have been due upgrades, I used one to get a SGS3 just to see what the fuss was all about, I fully expected to put it in a bag and sell it on after a week or so, and then put the sim back in my beloved iP4S, thats not happening, the 4S is going in the bag and getting sold.

I will still use my upgrade for the next iPhone, it will either be better than my SGS3 or it will bring me a nice profit, I hope I am surprised, but if it is just an elongated 4S with some upgraded Siri features that can only be used in the US then in the bag it will go.

I am still a big Apple fan, but not to the stage where I am blinded to everything else.

This year, I've seem so many more opinions on this board that mirror this feeling. I've never seen so many threads complaining about how out dated the 4 styling has become, but it looks like we're going to get exactly what we have now, just a bit taller. Sure it will sell millions just like they always do, but there is no excitement this time around. That says a lot.

im glad you posted that b.c i want to smack people when they say the only difference b.t the 4 and 4s is siri. The only thing the 4s didn't get was a new design....everything else about it was what you would expect from a new phone

This is all true but the phone desperately needs a larger screen (and not just a vertically-stretched one)! 4.3" would be the sweet spot for me.

i agree. That is what will decide my next phone. If the 5 is a 4" screen, i will get the s3. While i love my little apple eco system...iphone/atv/mac. I rarely combine my phone with my computer....granted iOS 6/ML really tries to bridge that gap.

This is very true. But, how many BMWs would they sell if they never changed the car body? They'd get one, maybe two years of good sales, then people would grow tired of the looks regardless of the performance. That's just how it works. Looks have a lot to do with motivating people to buy new. People will grow tired of the iPhone 4 styling.

it is not even the style alone...it's more the iOS =/

That is EXACTLY what I thought to myself. Been avoiding Android in general since the iPhone 3GS. When Google dropped the price on their unlocked/contract free Nexus I decided to give it a try, figured that I probably won't like the enormous size or Android that it'll be easily resold and back to my 4S I go. Nope, I'm waiting for AT&T to confirm my unlock and I'm selling the iPhone. I didn't think I would want to carry such a big phone, but I don't really feel it's that much bulkier in my jeans pocket than the iPhone, and now I *need* 1280x720 pixels on my phone :D It's not about the size, I want more screen real estate. A 4.3-4.5" 1280x720 screen would be ideal for me.

I still love the iPhone 4 design and its very high quality feel, but the Samsung S3 does feel very nice in the hand and doesn't feel cheap at all. I wouldn't mind if Apple kept the design and just made the screen bigger with more pixels.

Considering the amount of time BMW has between intro, refreshes, and redesigns, they are a bad example to your point, and validate Apple's strategy.

The last BMW 3 went 8 years without a redesign...

Apple doesn't need a total redesign every year as long as they continue to make enduring, iconic designs. And it just so happens that the 4/4S have the best design language of any phone ever made. It's more like modern art or architecture than a plasticky, tacky Korean cell phone.

Maybe not everyone thinks that the iP4/4S is a great looking phone. My roommate has the 3GS still and doesn't want to upgrade to the current design. Everyone has their own opinions. If I was to compare iP4 to SSGS3 how they feel in the hand, I have to say that for MYSELF, the SSGS3 feels much nicer and easier to hold on to/work with than the 4 ever did for me.

...and wider too, please

I love my iPhone 4 and it's serving me very well. I'm in a position to upgrade (I'm off contract) but if the next release isn't both taller *and* wider, then I'll pass. Despite some significant improvements over my 2 year old device, like LTE and faster GPU/CPU, I won't feel eager to upgrade... which means waiting another year or looking at alternatives.

A candy bar phone doesn't cut it.
