I switched back on January 13th 2006 at MW06. I remember the date because it was the say before my birthday. I've been loving it ever since.

In 1993, I was starting High School and my Grandfather said he would give me a budget of $2000 to buy a computer and printer for school. I bought a Performa 475 (about $1500 at the time) and a HP COLOR deskjet (about $400) even though my parents thought I was throwing his money away. I was the eldest child and neither one of my parents new a Mac from a Microwave but all of "their research" pointed towards windows 3 (I think?).

My argument (which won:D) was that I already know my way around System 6 because that is what our technologically advanced school was running and I could probably score some software from school/friends. I know, I was a young lil' pirate, but after upgrading to the system 7 machine and "studying;)" in the school computer lab, I was able to do some very impressive things on my lil' mac.

The rest is history, I bought the 1st gen iMac (before the fruit colors), then the 1st gen iBook, now I am milking my 1st gen MacBook Pro. I probably would have bought number 5 by now but I cracked my screen on my MBP so when I had the screen replaced I had them upgrade the RAM to 2 GB and the HD to 320 GB. I will continue to milk this 2 year old for maybe another year, but I guess we'll see how it goes (June 9th).

That's my story, the only PC I ever owned was this relic...

(but I did learn how to program in BASIC on it so I guess it wasn't all bad:rolleyes:)
Nice story, but being the little nagger I am, I have to point out that the 1st Gen iMac was the one with the colors. Perhaps you are referring to one of the PowerMac All-in-ones?

Oh, maybe I am mistaken? I had the blue-ish original (eventually called blueberry or something), I am pretty sure the 5 colors came a few months later, no?

That is correct. The blueish one was called "bondi" then became blueberry several months later at that MacWorld when then announced the original colored models. (Strawberry, Tangerine, Grape, etc)

@Cassie if you didn't read his post carefully he first purchased a Performa in '93 and then in '98 bought the original iMac.

Ah, I see what you're saying. I thought you meant you had an iMac without any color at all, like one of the beige PowerMacs.

You had the original "Bondi Blue" iMac, and you're right, the different colors (of which Blueberry was one of them, but it was different then Bondi Blue, it was much darker blue, and the Bondi was sort of teal-ish) came about a year later.

I switched 4 years ago when I got a iBook G3 for my birthday, the top spec one, too! I just got a MacBook a few weeks ago :)

Round about the same day I joined this place :)

Read a lot of rumours about the upcoming PowerBook so I joined to discuss it all (I think?).

i got my macbook, "chipper", as a graduation gift to myself in december of 2006. i got it mostly because i wanted a laptop that wouldn't go off during the random power outages we have around here so i could work without fear of losing my work due to a power flux. i was going to get a pc, but after doing months of homework, and weighing out the pros and cons between using a computer with an old os with a aging shelflife with xp, a questionable os in vista and a stable and easy to use os like osx, i decide to spend a bit more cash and get the mac and try a new os. i did have experience in osx and previous mac os in schools, but this is the first mac that i owned. i didn't switch 100% until about a year later, when my pc spit the bit (the motherboard and fan was down), and i used the mac exclusively.

so if you consider using the mac as your primary computer as a switch date, it's been 17 months, but if you consider when you are an exclusive mac user as the switch date, that would be about 5.

Switched in January 2002 when the iMac G4 was introduced. I had been wanting to switch earlier than that, but I wanted a computer with a G4 and a flat-panel display. A PowerMac G4 was too much computer for me, and a G3 iMac wasn't quite enough. The iMac G4 was JUST right! I've been a Mac user ever since and can't see myself every owning a PC again.

In 2003 i walked into an apple store and picked but a G4 towers, i think that was just before the G5 towers came.

Im 18 and my family has always only had macs. Both my elementary school and middle school only used macs as-well.

I never used a PC until a photoshop class at High School.

Bought my first Mac--an indigo iMac G3 400--in the summer of 2000 after the second semester of the Creative Advertising program I was in. We used Power Macs at school and I immediately fell in love with them (and this was pre-OS X).

Got my second Mac--a G3 500 iBook--in 2001 after starting my first job at an ad agency and finding myself with some disposable income. It's amazing how both of those computers were more expensive than my MacBook Pro.

I've now got an Aluminum 2.0 Ghz iMac (for work at home), a 2.16 Ghz MacBook Pro (for work on the road), and a 2.0 Ghz black MacBook (for travel to far away lands).
