What is this alano people speak of? The basic entry-level black iPad case?

Those are not real leather, those are faux leather.

Honestly, whether it's high end leather, or paper mâché, it's all good as long as these cases are so beautifully crafted.

The description is in here, its one of those rare cases that Portenzo can come up with

Alano

SeventySix is another special case that is not offer to the public either here is the link, (I Love this one!!!!)

There are references to the Alano in other Portenzo threads on this forum and I think some various information around the web. It's pure leather--basically, a thickly cut piece of leather to which the frame, strap, etc is attached. It looks beautiful in pictures, but I think when I first looked at it a few weeks ago, it was quite pricey ($125, I think). They also have other "exotics" which are talked about in the other threads. Some really beautiful items--boar, ostrich, stingray. Again, there are random pics floating around and they are very impressive! In fact, I think these types of items are likely one the reasons Portenzo has done so well compared to some makers of similar products. I think if you look at pics posted on their Facebook page, you may see a few of these.

Thank you and mystery girl for explaining what the Alano is and not being know-it-alls, very kind *hugs for y'all*

And you know the Alano is not real leather how?

Get your facts straight bro, I never claimed anything about Alano not being leather, I inquired what it was -___-*

People always type without knowing what they're talking about *reading comprehension people*

He is confused. He is thinking of the Morocco and Levant which aren't leather.

Not confused, but thanks anyway, I know the basic notebook-style cases with Morocco and Levant are faux leather -____-

I was wondering what the Alano was and if its similar in build to the other book-style cases.

And I reiterate, even if the cases were made of recycled newspaper, I'm sure they'd be a work of art :D

EDIT: That seventy-six is gorgeous~~
I wonder if they could make it in a espresso kind of brown.....?

It's a bit darker than the inside paper of a real Moleskine (which is the look I was going for). I'd say it matches the website pretty well, although monitor calibration makes a difference.

The Morocco does not quite match a real Moleskine exactly (grainier than a Moleskine). It's also more prone to fingerprinting than the Moleskine material.

There is a slight gap near the spine, BTW. But in general, this thing feels great. It really does give you the sense that you've got a big Moleskine. It's very well-crafted. I love holding it. You can disguise your iPad and be bohemian and professional at the same time!

How strong are the magnets? I got one without the strap and was wondering if it opens too easily...

RCI/SBS,
Are you getting/did you get the camera port? I have sub 3900 order and went with basic Levant (would've preferred Moroccan) with camera port because thought that would be fastest. I haven't heard anything and account shows same as it did right after my order on 3/3. Haven't heard anybody with order in hand or email say they had a camera port....just trying to figure out what is holding things up.

SBS: How's the sound? Was good on first version, but the speaker has been moved and they had to work things a little differently. Looks good though. Thanks for the pics.

TKS

flht, I did get the camera port. If you have not received notice of shipment there could be a problem! I would recommend you to contact portenzo via facebook with your order/date number, they have been good at responding there lately and I'm sure they will expedite your order. Hope this helps!

Pretty strong. Like I said, like a MacBook lid. If you don't have one of those around to try it, I'm not sure how else to describe it (no force gauge to give you actual ft-lbs or Newton-meters), but basically I can't see the cover flying open in most circumstances I can imagine.

FYI - I wasn't trying to be a know it all but I thought when people were referring to Alano that you thought they were talking about what the Morocco and Levant case materials.

Personally, I think faux leather is a good thing. I'm not fond of having things with dead animal skins myself.

I wasn't even going to reply to that. It was obvious he didn't have a clue that his post could be misread as written.

Keep up the good work Team Portenzo, I'm sure you guys are working hard and don't have the time to respond to all the potential customers and it's hard to deal with them when they like to twist your(TP) words to their convenience.

It's best to deal politely with them and brush off those who can't be helped otherwise. Have a great friday:D

My wife is now using the Pad1 with Portenzo and she is not careful, she just uses. Folds the cover back flat against itself....hey it's just a cover. Any way the thing is holding up like a champ and the inside material now has a little patina on the corners showing it's class. It's like the farmer's almanac, people pick it up look up what they what to know and put it back on the shelf...most worn book on the shelf.

Isn't the whole idea of the case is to fold back the cover? Only way I will be using the iPad.

I am one of Darin's original customers. I think my order was number 15. I received the Teju skin iPad one Portenzo. This case is so beautiful, I receive comments wherever I go with it. I now have an iPad 2. I am waiting for the new burgundy version of the Teju to become available. I think it says something that I would consider no other case. For those of you who can't wait, then I say go purchase something mass produced and be happy. For those of you who love craftsmanship and quality, ride it out and wait your turn. You may not get it as soon as you wanted it, but when you do, you will know that you made the right choice. Just my .02.

Thanks to this thread, I returned my un-opened Apple leather smart cover and bought one of these instead for virtually the same price. Just decided that the apple cases were not very good value when there's cases like this one out there. Appreciate people's feedback here!

i just returned mine as well...and opted instead for Portenzo SeventySix

How has your Teju held up? I saw pics of it in the other thread. That's one BEAUTIFUL case!

You are correct but I think when the poster said flat back...that means flatter than the typing position. Broken spine creased back flat...flatter than flat...no daylight flat.

The P&Q goes back flat and also has the typing position. I think they wanted it that way and it makes sense for some users. So I'm happy a vendor is providing that.

It has held up beautifully. I am a HEAVY iPad user and that skin is bulletproof. I sold my old iPad, but I can't make myself part with that Portenzo. I am giving it to my Dad. :D

That's from an iPad 1 with the bamboo.

That said, his second picture doesn't show the plywood. I'm so confused.
