Doesn't look ugly but top picture was photoshop I think since it was before iPad 2 was launched.

The original iPad 1 Portenzo cases used what Darin called "hidden corners." That image wasn't photoshopped, that's how the original Portenzo cases look. My guess is the thinner iPad 2 makes "hidden corners" impossible since they sat lower in the case. Ugh, I'm not a fan of the way the new corners look but overall the new Portenzo's still look better to me than the competition in my opinion.

Exactly, the iPad one picture in that post is exactly how mine looked. I wonder if the corners would look better with a black iPad 2..like I have :D

Not really, but it's a matter of taste, I will say it's a sacrifice well worth it(so called "ugly" corners), as the new iPad's profile is much more attractive vs gen one's boxier-shape.
As others say, it's because of the changes in the profile that "hidden corners" weren't possible.

does that rubber stick way out above the wood? can it be trimmed?

Fish³/Xultar,
Exactly right regarding folding back the cover. Yeah it's just a Pad case, but I was treating it like a my favorite book, trying to keep it new looking as long as possible. And quite frankly I wondered how much opening and closing could be expected for the thing to endure.

I usually have my iPad on one knee when my legs are sort of crossed. I found by accident that letting the cover flop over my knee held the iPad right where I liked having it positioned. So it served two purposes, holding the iPad where I wanted it and not folding the cover back on itself continually. I don't use the "typing" position of the Portenzo and don't think it really works all that well, sounds good, but you probably want a tad more angle if you needed to type much.

OUCH. Can you exchange it? Looks like some imperfections in the wood plus that corner does not look like the pictures.

Anyone else with a Portenzo have same problem?

Can you put Apple smart cover folded in a triangle under the portenzo case to get a typing angle?

The corner does look the same as the pictures, you have to really zoom in on the photos on the Portenzo site to see the corners though. While I'm not a fan of the new visible black corners I think I'll get used to them in time. As far as the "imperfections in the wood" what are you referring to? The notches are the speaker grooves. There does look to be a very small blotch on the edge of the case but I would guess that's just the way the wood is. Wood is a natural substance, anything natural is bound to have a few unique "imperfections."

That would probably work. I would prop up my original Portenzio case with whatever was laying around, a small book would usually give me a nice angle. I'm wondering how hard it would be to attach a small kickstand of some sort to the cover to create the angle, some sort of collapsable easel back.

I sent an email through the website to change the interior color. No way to confirm they received it?

Looks great to me and its owner seems to be happy. These corners are evident in some of the pics that have been posted for iPad 2 cases--see the 23.5 pics for reference.

As for the corners, I do like the iPad 1 design better, but this is far from a deal breaker for me.

I was half joking To be fully honest though I'm not feeling the new corners. But, I still like the case overall. I'll just add it to my con list. I hope I dont add more to it.

I would lol, but 1) I don't mind,

And 2) that one in the pic isn't mine LOLZ, it's on portenzo's FB fan page, some guy got his already :D

Xultar I agree not feeling corners, they look less classy but not much we can do huh?:p

Well thats good. Maybe they will get better after 2 or 3 thousand more units and perfect those corners a bit. Looks like being in the high 6000s is going to be a bonus.

Because that rubber sticking out looks mad ghetto

Worried about Portenzo

I ordered a portenzo case for my IPad 2 after going through several reviews. I was ready to order the DoDo case until I read the reviews.

I ordered my case 12 days ago. I have no idea when to expect it. Customer service has been almost non existent. They dont respond to inquires. It appears that once they have your order repeat business is not a priority. If you notice, the online chat option is always off. I'm sorry I went with protenzo. I've not seen the product yet, but based on their service my expectations are significantly diminished!

Please be patient, this a Masterpiece, a true work of art, you will not regret the wait once you are privy to the Portenzo expierience, they are swamped with orders, as you may know, the iPad 2 was recently released and their orders are not just domestic, but international, such is the grandeur, prestige, and cachè associated with the wonder known as Portenzo cases!!!

Service matters

And I'm sure he will get an answer the same day lol but how can we know that we don't work for either companies . Besides some companies have more business than others that might be why P&Q is prone to answer emails in a timely manner or give it that job task to somebody that might not know whats happening in the shop. Maybe Portenzo should leave answer emails to somebody, but hey, Darin is a passionate guy, he likes to answer them personally, it is his business after all.

So what did you end up getting Steviejobz? P&Q or Portenzo? I'm kind of curious...

I hope the folks at Protenzo realize they can have the best cases on the market, but if they don't do something about the lack of customer service it won't matter!

For all the heat Portenzo has gotten lately ( and rightfully so, I'll add ) they do have from what i see in pictures as the superior product. It looks crafted and careful.

I don't like the switch to the plywood, that's my gripe with this version.

Are you saying they went to plywood for the IPad2 cases? The product description says they use Birch.

How is the fit

Just got mine in. Here are some quick photos (sorry, iPhone 4 camera):
One of the spine, one of the area of the inside cover that holds the 4 Magna Grip magnets, and one of the rubber grips that holds the iPad in place.

How is the fit on the new case? Is it secure? Do you see any chance of the rubber tips on the corners coming off?

The natives are getting restless on Portenzo's Facebook page. A lot of complaints about these terrible corners that stick out like a sore thumb.

I wish the people in this thread did not promote so heavily and cause all the demand. Looks like a rushed design.

Hi Skidadle, I think many, including myself would agree with you. The thing that has made me keep my order and continue to be excited for the case is that it seems the lack of custom service is unique to the last few weeks. If you look at other threads on this forum, you'll find that until recently the company was known for outstanding service both before and after products were purchased. That's one of the factors that swayed me in their direction. This will be my first Portenzo case and I emailed them twice in the weeks before the planned release date. I received very rapid responses (within hours). My sense is that they are overwhelmed by the current volume of orders and emails and don't have a system in place to deal with it. I hope this will be a lesson learned for them and that they will put the systems in place to better handle large volumes of orders.

Bottom line...I hope this is just a bad hiccup in the experience of dealing with what has apparently been a great company otherwise. Until two weeks ago, many considered their product the best of it's class with outstanding customer service to match. Fingers crossed, those of us who stick with Portenzo through this process will be rewarded with both a great product and great service in the future. Of course there are no guarantees and all we have is their (up until 2 weeks ago) very good track record to go in.

i think the team over at portenzo didnt expect to get so much business so fast.. i mean they were one of the top ipad 1 moleskine case designers.. much more people got into the ipad 2 and it exploded.. so i understand they got swamped with orders.. what i dont understand is how someone could order early on and still not have a shipping notice when someone ordered on the 23rd and already got his.. i mean i ordered on 15th.. there are guys on here that ordered the first week of march.. should be preorders first.. once those are done.. everyone else.. why preorder if you arent a priority..

i also can understand making a bunch of new designs however.. i think it would of been better time used wisely to get preorders out before showcasing newer designs ever few days.. i know some would like to change over but you preordered already with the design you liked before a newer one came out.. of course when something newer comes out 50% might want to change to that.. but then a newer design comes out and 25% would want to change to that.. its like a never ending cycle.. :)

the pics that show the corners dont look so hot.. i will have to wait until i see it in person.. hopefully soon..
