Doesn't look ugly but top picture was photoshop I think since it was before iPad 2 was launched.
The original iPad 1 Portenzo cases used what Darin called "hidden corners." That image wasn't photoshopped, that's how the original Portenzo cases look. My guess is the thinner iPad 2 makes "hidden corners" impossible since they sat lower in the case. Ugh, I'm not a fan of the way the new corners look but overall the new Portenzo's still look better to me than the competition in my opinion.
Exactly, the iPad one picture in that post is exactly how mine looked. I wonder if the corners would look better with a black iPad 2..like I have![]()
Not really, but it's a matter of taste, I will say it's a sacrifice well worth it(so called "ugly" corners), as the new iPad's profile is much more attractive vs gen one's boxier-shape.
As others say, it's because of the changes in the profile that "hidden corners" weren't possible.

Fish³/Xultar,
Exactly right regarding folding back the cover. Yeah it's just a Pad case, but I was treating it like a my favorite book, trying to keep it new looking as long as possible. And quite frankly I wondered how much opening and closing could be expected for the thing to endure.
I usually have my iPad on one knee when my legs are sort of crossed. I found by accident that letting the cover flop over my knee held the iPad right where I liked having it positioned. So it served two purposes, holding the iPad where I wanted it and not folding the cover back on itself continually. I don't use the "typing" position of the Portenzo and don't think it really works all that well, sounds good, but you probably want a tad more angle if you needed to type much.
OUCH. Can you exchange it? Looks like some imperfections in the wood plus that corner does not look like the pictures.
Anyone else with a Portenzo have same problem?
Can you put Apple smart cover folded in a triangle under the portenzo case to get a typing angle?

And 2) that one in the pic isn't mine LOLZ, it's on portenzo's FB fan page, some guy got his already![]()
I ordered a portenzo case for my IPad 2 after going through several reviews. I was ready to order the DoDo case until I read the reviews.
I ordered my case 12 days ago. I have no idea when to expect it. Customer service has been almost non existent. They dont respond to inquires. It appears that once they have your order repeat business is not a priority. If you notice, the online chat option is always off. I'm sorry I went with protenzo. I've not seen the product yet, but based on their service my expectations are significantly diminished!

And I'm sure he will get an answer the same day lol but how can we know that we don't work for either companies. Besides some companies have more business than others that might be why P&Q is prone to answer emails in a timely manner or give it that job task to somebody that might not know whats happening in the shop. Maybe Portenzo should leave answer emails to somebody, but hey, Darin is a passionate guy, he likes to answer them personally, it is his business after all.
So what did you end up getting Steviejobz? P&Q or Portenzo? I'm kind of curious...
For all the heat Portenzo has gotten lately ( and rightfully so, I'll add ) they do have from what i see in pictures as the superior product. It looks crafted and careful.
I don't like the switch to the plywood, that's my gripe with this version.
Just got mine in. Here are some quick photos (sorry, iPhone 4 camera):
One of the spine, one of the area of the inside cover that holds the 4 Magna Grip magnets, and one of the rubber grips that holds the iPad in place.
I hope the folks at Protenzo realize they can have the best cases on the market, but if they don't do something about the lack of customer service it won't matter!
