After about 10 days, my iPad 2 is loose and if I slightly tilt the case it falls out.

I sent an email to Darin about getting replacement as this never happened with my Portenzo case for the iPad 1.

Anyone else having this problem?

Yep, I am having same issue. Bottom right corner is loose. Looks as though the wood frame isn't perfectly straight and so it causes iPad (which is straight) to not rest evenly. iPad falls out every time.

Sorry to hear that guys. I did notice that my case on the right side rubber corners seem to sit higher. I thought this was to combat the iPad, which also sits higher on the right side (due to the foam underneath on the bottom corner and camera hole) when inside. That may not be the reason the rubber corners sit high, but it seems as though it is helping the iPad stay in place. Like I said, so far I've had no issues and it again passed the famous portenzo shake test.

Actually I think this is a lesson for Paypals users all over the world. Don't trust Paypal, it is after all a third party company.

As a client, I will be p?ssed if somebody orders a case after me with paypal and gets priority cause they used that method of payment, I was first in queue after all!

I don't expect any special treatment because I paid with paypal, but the inference from Darin's email posted earlier was that the credit card orders that he was having to charge early would get priority.

All I want is an even playing field. I will be pretty annoyed if a credit card order charged this week gets shipped ahead of my paypal order which was charged a month ago. I just want them to be shipped in the order they were placed.

I think the one thing that has become obvious is that there is no such thing as an even playing field with regards to Portenzo's order fulfillment process. Recent orders may be shipped out before older orders, even if they were identical. I've seen several cases identical to the one I ordered on 3/19 posted on FB or here even though those orders were after mine. I think they are playing bingo to select which ones to send out. :D

I totally agree with you on this point, its because there doesn't seem to be clarity on the process on how they are being shipped that gets me and most people worried too. At first it was because the Morocco material wasn't in the shop, and I think thats the reason why all the shipping got screwed. Levants were being shipped first and jumping the Morocco orders :/. Now there isn't any Levant material, but Morocco orders get priority.

So think about it this way, I order Morocco and you order Levant, you order 2 weeks later from me and there aren't any Morocco material to make me a case. While Portenzo is waiting for the Morocco material to start making my case, they will start making the Levant cases cause they have the material to make it... and I think most people don't understand that.

Nevertheless, I just want my case and I'm now wondering if this thread is going to reach 100 pages by the time I get! Now that will be funny

I don't think it's as simple as that. I ordered a Levant case on 3/19. I've seen others who also ordered the levant with the same black interior after I did and they already have their case. The orders appear otherwise to be identical, but the later one has occasionally been filled first. That's what gets me annoyed. You'd think among levant orders, order date would be indicative of when orders got filled. This doesn't appear to be the case. They haven't indicated there were other material shortages (eg. grommets for camera holes, stylus frames, liner materials, etc) leading to delays of Levant orders.

In all honesty I wouldn't complain Portenzo takes time in manufacturing and shipping the cases. In reality I would be worried if they started just hacking away and delivered some sub par cases "ASAP". Handcrafted products take time to manufacture. When you finally get one you learn to appreciate the product and what it takes manufacture one.

+1 just received mine today and WOW

Mentioned my issues to TP and got an email reply from Liz within 15 minutes.

She said a replacement w/ shipping label would be sent out right away. Looks like the great customer service that people talked about on page 2 of this thread is starting to come back.

I got an email from Darin today and they will be shipping me a new case to fix my current problem.

Another example of great customer support

You can say that because you have your case and haven't had to wait 4 weeks+ without any definite shipping date. My credit card was charged a week ago and I still don't have shipping information. Instead I have a vague promise of "soon".

Actually, if there is one thing you will not eBay its Portenzo case. At the moment there is one Portenzo case available in eBay (used case for iPad original).

When ordering Portenzo its just best to think the delivery will take a very long time but what you get in the end is something very beautiful. In all honesty if you end up ordering a custom case with personal embossings etc. then opening the package is more exciting then getting the iPad itself. These things are one of few items vast majority of people can get that are truly custom and handmade and doesn't cost a fortune (literally). So waiting for it is like waiting for any custom handmade product. Its part of the process.

In Defense of Portenzo

I've been reading this thread for many weeks now.
Just felt the need to throw my experience with Portenzo up.

Which for the record has been really, really good.
Now this is my experience so dont flame me for it.

I've exchanged several emails with Darin & Liz, I have been given status updates, estimated ship times. The response time has been within 2-3 days. Not bad for a small company swamped with orders.

One of the communications implied that there may have been
problems securing materials to build the product with. This isnt the only company feeling that pain as it seems to haven happend to a few of them since the ipad 2 launch went down.

Now just so you know, I have not yet received my order nor has it shipped (Morocco, w/ magnetic, no strap). But from what I can tell from the photos I have seen. I made the right choice to cancel my dodocase order (which i caught just before shipping after waiting 3 weeks for it...) and wait 3-4 weeks for the Portenzo.

I'll give a follow up when it arrives.

Received my Composition II today & I love it!!

Cool! When did you order yours/approx order #? I ordered on 4/8, order #9400's. I don't expect mine to ship for another few weeks, but hope it would be sooner.

  • How is the cover texture and quality?
  • Inner lining quality?
  • Do you feel like the tension for the iPad sitting in the frame will wear over multiple removing and re-inserting as some people have found on theirs?
  • Any quality control issues?

I worry about quality since the Portenzo team might feel rushed due to the high demand. Thanks!

I ordered 3/19 & was order 5294. I originally ordered the Morocco, was the contest winner of the 23.5 but decided I wanted the CompositionII. The quality is awesome! They did a fantastic job! I did notice the right side does sit up a little higher but I'm not too concerned. I did the shake test & had no problems. It stayed in place.
It's hard to say about the tension of the frame of wearing from constant removal. I don't plan on removing it too often since I have a BSE on the back of my iPad for protection.
The solid black material they use on the spine I'm not sure what the material is other than it's what's used on regular books. I can see the corners of the spine (at the bottom) wearing if brushed continuously against something. For example, propped on the table & moving it closer to you instead of picking it up. But, I guess only time will tell. Overall, this case is awesome!!
