You must've missed my post yesterday... Received shipping notice on Wednesday, Comp2 arriving today.

Yep, I missed that one. Sorry. Nonetheless, a friend ordered a week ago and cancelled today. She did get a pretty quick response via email today. She ordered a "Notebook." I don't think there was a choice of Levant or Morocco available when she placed her order.

See the email chain below:

Liz & Darin,

Thanks for canceling and again showing your great customer service since someone for you staff, I am assuming you, informed me that it would be received on May 16th, 2011. (E-mail attached below).

Additionally, this e-mail chain will be posted on Macworld rumors website so future customers are able to see your superior customer service.

Hi Liz,

I appreciate the quick response.

Unfortunately, your e-mail below did not answer my question and it instead encourages the “maybe it will, maybe it won’t” perception the Portenzo has given it customers. I understand that quality takes time, my Grandfather used to make handmade cherry furniture, but your inability to confirm shipment dates is not comforting especially since you stated below that it would arrive by May 16th, 2011 (not maybe if I pull strings).

As a result I would appreciate it if you would cancel order # 10758; I would like to insure that I have a case to use in time for the ICSC ReCon Convention and will be ordering from one of your competitors. I have attached a screen shot of my account information below and will be filling a dispute in PayPal if conformation of my refund is not received by April 28, 2011.

Because I am a St. Louis resident I find this especially unfortunate since I had three (3) associates who were interested in purchasing the Portenzo; if they liked the product I was hoping to receive, unfortunately I will not be able to recommend you.

Thanks & take care.

It's possible. Your friend's case should ship in the next week or so. Please email me closer to the date you would need it to ship by (not receive by) and I'll see if I can pull some strings.

Given the way we produce our cases and the way our online system works, I cannot give you an exact date. If this were possible, we would send the info automatically.

Re

Well, I personally stood by patiently during this whole process. I ordered the case on 3/17 and never bothered Portenzo with inquiries or concerns. I casually stopped by these forums for "true" updates regarding the status of their cases.

After waiting nearly a month, I decided to write a polite email inquiring about my particular order. Like many of you, I was told my Levant order would ship this week. To quote "most all Levant cases are going out on Monday or Tuesday. Looking at your order#, you'll be in that batch"

Looking through the forums this week, it looks obvious that "Most Levants" didn't come close to shipping nor is it likely that "Most Levants" will be shipping anytime this month.

The reality of their current situation is based on a completely catastrophic business model. After explaining this in detail to Portenzo, I requested that my order be cancelled and refunded. I paid through PayPal. They quickly complied and refunded immediately, which, I do appreciate.

Based on MANY peoples personal experience, I think we can all admit that Portenzo has repeatedly lied and failed to communicate any sort of accurate information. They obviously think that many of us are 'stupid' and can be continually baited until their 'unknown' resolve is reached???

Whatever the case maybe with them, I'm satisfied that they refunded my money same day but that's about it. I'm also satisfied that this ordeal is finally over with. For those who do continue to wait patiently , I hope you get your order(s) sooner than later.

This whole thread is one big whiny mess. If you've ordered in the last 2-3 weeks, you should've already known that you were going to be waiting a while. Why order a handmade case when you need it for an upcoming date? It's like some of you ordered just to complain. There are plenty of other case options.

Very nice looking case. Only two drawbacks that would keep me from getting this is the lack of positioning and it seems a little thick for my taste. I use for iPad for a lot of work purposes so I'm looking to keep it as it's original size as possible.

Composition II

So I've joined the ranks of those on the "other side" of the long wait...

  • 3/16 Ordered Levant, hoping to get it in time for an overseas trip 3/25. Darin had me put in a note about it, and I did upgraded shipping. Of course, that date came and went.
  • 3/25 Since I'm on my way overseas, I request cancelling my upgraded shipping. Besides, everyone is getting complementary 2-day shipping at this point. Darin records the request.
  • 4/6 Comp II wins me over, so I pay for the upgrade. All Comp2 orders before 4/1 should go out by 4/15 it says, but I know I don't qualify for that one. It does say "usually ships in 1-2 weeks."
  • 4/11 Hmmm... clear corners, you say? I request this for my Comp2. Darin says he can do it, and the order is updated.
  • 4/20 I've seen some Comp2's get out into the wild on FB and in this forum by now, and it's at the 2.0 week mark. So I send a "Where's my order?" message. The only response I get later that day is a "your order has shipped" e-mail. OCD-type refreshing of FB and macrumors becomes an OCD-type refreshing of fedex.com/tracking.
  • 4/21 PayPal tells me my upgraded shipping fee has been refunded.
  • 4/22 Composition II received.

So the long wait is over for me, and one more piece of evidence is in that Portenzo has not absconded with everyone's money. I won't rehash what everyone else has already said -- looks great, worth the money/wait, excellent craftsmanship. It's all true. I'm glad I went for the Comp2, as I think it fits my style more.

All of the major details were executed for me... I did get responses from TP for the things that mattered, such as my upgraded shipping refund request, clear corner request, and final order status request. Or was it coincidence that it shipped that day and would have if I didn't ask? There's no way for me to determine that. But besides the initial launch slip, the timeline was in accordance to what they listed.

One OOPS - the case came with the standard black corners instead of the clear corners. Now this is not a big enough deal for me to request it be done to my request. I thought the clear corners would work better with my white iPad2, but in reality, the black corners do work very well in real life. It fits the black/white theme of the case in general. I'm actually confident that TP would do the change, but to me there is no need at all.

Pictures follow... the stand that it is on is the Arkon Portable fold-up stand on Amazon - I like that the case fits well on it.

I looked at the camera port closely since some mentioned a concern about the dust seal. It looks pretty good to me. At most, there may be a very, very slight gap on the top where the iPad2 starts to curve away. But it's possible that I might be able to close that with a reinsertion. MagnaGrip cover does it's job. iPad2 feels secure in the frame. The left side is slightly more in than the right side, but without reading this forum I wouldn't have known to care, and it still is not a concern to me.

Finally, I'm not going to condescend and tell people "it's just a case, don't freak out," because it may be just a case, but it's also my $70-90 hanging out there. I will say that it's worth the wait. I did have to lug a case-less iPad2 14,000 miles while waiting for this to arrive (and bear with a flight attendant telling me I had to put it on the floor because it was a "laptop"), but at least I have this now for the next 18,000 miles I have coming up.

3/16 ordered Levant, upgraded to Comp2 on 4/6. If you ordered a Comp2 on 3/16 I'd certainly send them a note via their website and ask for an update...

I have sent a number of emails. No recent response, still 'processing'

Looks amazing though

WOW! The Comp II looks beautiful! Thanks for posting. You have given me hope. I ordered 4/8 and am still holding out. And I have that same Arkon iPad stand, glad to see it works with the case. Now I don't regret opting for Magna Grip without a strap. Thanks again!

Couldn't have said it better myself. =]

People whine so much I'm craving some cheese =[

They have not been hiding or lying about the 3-4 week backlog, they've been honest and upfront, if people are horridly rushed, buy from someone else, us here on MR, and TP, most likely by extension, can only endure so much whining.

This thread is long and detailed, and chronicles the whole Portenzo supply chain issues/delays quite well.

The lady whose girlbuddy is denying TP some "recommendations" due to them not being able to accommodate her rushed need for a case is a little extra. She knew the delay/wait before she ordered...

I'm sure TP will not live or die by losing 3 purchases.

I used to doubt them a bit when the delay first started, but never had we reached these new heights of whining:eek::confused::eek:

That is all.

I stand by one of my original comments, which was, standard communication in one place (i.e. their website) would have alleviated this mess (i.e.e whining, canceling of orders and general griping). Telling people next week, the week after or whatever you pull out of a hat that day won't get it.

FYI - When I ordered on 3/15 it said orders would ship on 3/28. Forgive me for believing that. At the end of the day it's just business. Honor your commitments or inform folks or they'll take their business somewhere else.

BTW- many are coming here to get updates considering this may be one of a few places where there is any news as to where they are with orders.

Someone posted a reply they got from Portenzo on facebook.
"Our Morocco supply shipment was lost in transit for about 2 weeks. We just got it Thursday, so Moroccos began production last Thursday. That said, we make different cases every day, so it could be another 2 weeks or so."

So all you morocco people who are expecting shipment monday....I don't think thats going to happen....

so basically they won't do anything to catch up or hold up to their word. Yeah it sucks that their materials were delayed, but delaying them longer for newer orders is ridiculous. Between jumping orders that they charged (completely forgetting that paypal folks paid the day they ordered) lying about shipping dates and then shipping whomever screams the loudest is just plain pathetic... really starting to wonder if all the glowing customer service posts aren't just shills.

I find it funny that I am a whinner because a date was given to me "BY PORTENZO STAFF" which was proven to be untrue. I asked a simple question, if Darrin & Team could actually provide the case by the date given on their website and their response was "YES". Don't make a claim that you can't back up.

The truth is if you can not produce the product in the time frame provided then modify your time frame. I was asking in a effort to make other accomdations...I would have waited if I was told the truth which is probably closer to 8 weeks...not a lie in an effort to get my cash.

BOTTOM LINE - BE HONEST, PEOPLE RESPECT THAT BETTER.

Thanks for the pics subtom :)

............

Say wha?!

In fairness you shouldn't have placed the order if you were going to cancel in a week...especially KNOWING you're asking to potentially "cut in line" for a fancy Real Estate conference.

I was actually wanting to order a Potenzo custom but did not get a response for a few days on a quote, and went in another direction.

I would say that you did not give them a chance and neither did I, but "whatev's". Business isn't an easy thing.

To be frank some of the posts on here are pathetic. It just smacks of toddlers crying and wailing because they can't have what they want RIGHT NOW.

As for the lady who used the fact she wouldn't recommend 3 (yes 3!) look at your order number. Do you honestly think Portenzo gives a toss about 3 little orders. Get real.

I'm more than happy to wait a month, I was prepared and understood the wait when I ordered. It's a hand made boutique product by a small company operating out of someone's living room.

Maybe us Brits are just more used to queuing and waiting :p

Agreed. If you can't wait, just cancel. Don't come on here complaining about how unsatisfied you are because you ordered from a company who openly tells the world that they're swamped with orders and they're making you wait for your custom case. There are just way too many other options for people to go to. Take your money elsewhere and stop cluttering the thread.

Darin's heart was in the right place when he decided to post here, but I think it just opened the doors to the complaints.

There might be a few of those, but what about the folks that ordered when it said ships in 2 weeks and were charged IMMEDIATELY and have been waiting over a month, only to get more promises and more delays? Now I do know that even mild manner Brits would be upset if someone jumped the queue (like they have done) and they get their order fulfilled while you continue to wait. Some folks are over 6 weeks...

Again really!!!

First boshi, given the fact that you received your case in 10 days I don't really want to hear any comments from you....if you don't mind waiting then send me or someone else your case or shut it!

Second, if I contact the company asking if they will actually hit the time frame given prior to placing an order so that I can plan accordingly and have a backup in place I am told but I am told "YES" it will be in by staff and I believe Portenzo to be telling me the truth I am in the wrong. But Portenzo "i.e. Liz" can state that MAYBE I CAN PULL SOME STRINGS TO GET IT TO YOU IN TIME is in the right? I didn't ask to be moved up she offered...get the facts straight.

This is ass backwards....also if you feel that my comments are clogging up the thread don't comment....why are even on here if you received your case on April 7, 2011....per your own post on April 8th. :p

Do you work for Portenzo!!!!

Bottom line: I canceled my case because I was not told the truth by staff...not the fact that I could not receive it in time. Portenzo should have been honest up front and said that it would be received in 6-8 weeks and would have waited happily like the Brits!

Wow. The International Council of Shopping Centers RECON does not begin until May 22, not May 16th. In addition, I would be embarrassed to be carrying an iPad at the convention as you would be instantly marked as a neophyte who does not understand or use excel. Bring a Macbook Pro, a Macbook Air or simply a PC notebook if you wish to be respected.

In addition, I personally would be embrassed to be carrying an iPad at the convention as you would be instantly marked as a neophyte who does not understand or use excel. Bring a Macbook Pro, a Macbook Air or simply a PC notebook if you wish to be respected.

OMG you can Google!!!

Luckly, I won't need to do any deals with you...and I don't calculate the ELV or FMV of my deals in excel.

Get it together....:p

First boshi, given the fact that you received your case in 10 days I don't really want to hear any comments from you....if you don't mind waiting then send me or someone else your case or shut it!
This isn't a complaint thread. People like you turned it into one.

I guess you skipped over the bold.

This is ass backwards....also if you feel that my comments are clogging up the thread don't comment....why are even on here if you received your case on April 7, 2011....per your own post on April 8th. :p
I haven't posted much in the thread since receiving my case but this is the most active thread, so I check it from time to time. Once again, this is not supposed to be a complaint thread.
Do you work for Portenzo!!!!
I don't, but if i did I would make you wait longer. :p

You are correct...it is a thread where people can say what they want about there experience...

Did you read the BOLD....try again...."Liz" offered to move me up

Hmm...I think you do work for Portenzo! Making people wait is what they do best, well that and give people incorrect infromation.

Also...I have reviewed your post your on here all the time....not every once in a while.

My comments like many others would not have been made if the communication we received was correct....don't say 3-4 weeks if you can't make happen....END OF STORY

Re

Some of you are funny. If this was March 25th, you all would have every right to say that the forum has too many "whiners". Heck, I may have come along and joined you in the obnoxious taunts. Fortunately, I'm a business professional. When I see how the leaders of Portenzo is handling this debacle, I have no choice but to frown. I think about if the roles were reversed, what would I have done in the shoes of Portenzo??

From the very beginning, they were deceitful and dishonest. The company had the audacity to take "preorders"?? Along with claims that "shipping start March 21st"?? From day 1, they knew that those goals were unachievable, yet, continually claimed "we should be completely caught up in 2 weeks". It's been 2 weeks AFTER THAT 2 weeks and they're STILL not close to clearing up their "back orders". When you're in the business of manufacturing/production, accounting for the logistics and practicality of what you're producing MUST be accounted for! When I see a company have a complete lapse in this decision, it adds to the many other variables that YOUR case may or may not ship in several more weeks...which would ultimately be okay, if you weren't constantly being told "shipping next week/this week"

The reality is, they are in a no better situation now then they were in the preorder stages. As much as I wanted one and I do think the case looks beautiful, their business practices are questionable.

Regardless of my grief, I hope it is soon resolved for all involved. The novelty of my iPad 2 is over. With a case, without a case...nobody cares anymore.
