Very simply, it is not flush with the top. seeing that the actual owner of the case verified it, it is in fact the truth...

It's curious that you are not a customer but have had many email exchanges with TP while actual customers have been ignored. It's also interesting that whenever anything critical is posted, you immediately jump to the defense of TP. So do you work for them?

No Mike, I do not work for them but wish I did since then I might be of some help. And I have stated that I was waiting to order since I have something that I would like Darin to CUSTOM make and I know he does not have time to focus on it as of now due to the back log.

I will make a point to post the pics when I finally have it done though. And I am curious when I see things posted that I do not see. I did not really read the guys review, but looked at the pics on here. I just noticed in the pic that the bottom of the case was at an angle and thought that was what was causing your comment.

While I have kept an open mind about Portenzo, I have also agreed with customers that their customer service has been lacking. So to be fair, I am not always defending them to the best of my knowledge.

I don't think it was bent. It was in pristine condition when I removed the packaging. This looks like an easily-overlooked splinter. It could have started very small and been made worse by a slight shifting during transit. I file this under 's... happens.'

However, I do also think this is a symptom of using the layered wood for the frame, and would much rather see a solid piece being used here. That may not be practical for large-scale production, but maybe it could be a customization option in the future.

And the iPad is most definitely not level in the case, or flush with the top. The camera hole seal area ends up slightly raising that corner. I don't know how this can be avoided, and again it is not a big deal to me.

Your mileage may vary of course!

@prot0type none of the sleep button cutouts are centered with the sleep button because they said it would weaken the frame to move it any closer to the corner.

Thanks I did not understand what Mike and the others were pointing out on your case. I agree with a lot of what they have said, now that I understand.

And that is the point, if their quality is dropping folks should be aware, especially when we are saying it's the distinctive that makes their case stand out.

And to the guy ranting about tornados and such, donate to the red cross, it will make you feel better :)

Just my 2 cents: yes the iPad does not sit leveled in the case, my iPad sits a little bit lower on the top left corner, most likely from being raised by the dust camera thing and the speakers, I'm a pretty picky about certain things, but it really doesn't bother me at all. To me, the iPad just blends in with the frame and You would only notice it if you're STARING at that corner
I really enjoy the smart cover feature and I rarely turn my iPad off so the off centered button doesn't bother me either since I never use it.

I do have to say I think the sound chamber works fantastic!
Only downfall is that I have the beats solo and damn I didn't realize how big the L is on the wire so it doesn't fit, I have to turn the wire towards me..oh well.

So after waiting weeks like others, I decided to order a Dodocase since I've heard of much quicker fulfillment. This is some good service:

Ordered Dodocase on Wed 4/27
Sent email that night asking if I could change my interior color
Received email Thur 4/28 confirming they've made a note on my order to change color
Received shipping notice today 4/29!! Saying it's left the nest!

They have their act together. After I receive it I will have to decide whether tp cancel the Portenzo order or go ahead and get it to compare.

(BTW - the above is for Orig iPad 1)

Just a couple of queries regarding the Portenzo cases.

  • Has anyone else noted that the iPad is slightly raised if you have opted for the rear camera ope.
  • With the natural linen internal finish, how are people finding the wear.
  • With the magnetic grip cover, do you wished you had or are required to use the strap as well.
  • The Notebook had options of Morocco or levant finish but it appears you do not have the option anymore, so what is the standard finish now.

My composition Ipad2 case arrived, and I gotta say, it's sturdy, gorgeous and looks great with my white IP2.

Thanks guys!

for jeebus sakes. just cancel the portenzo and go with your dodo and be happy. I don't get why you won't just cancel? Seems weird to buy something from a company that doesn't have it together as you say. Right, Dodo has their stuff together and protenzo does not. Why not cancel and move on?

1. On mine, Comp2, looking at it in landscape mode, the rear camera side is raised to the point of being level with the frame, whereas the other side is slightly lower. Doesn't bother me though.
2. Nope. magnagrip does the job. IMO, only need the strap if you're going to stand it up in landscape on a glass surface or similar.

RE: Comp II

Arrived today, just 3 wks after order was placed. Unbelievably light weigh, very well made and the feel is beyond description.

The stealth factor is just awesome.

BTW ... every email I sent over this time period was answered in a timely & respectful manner.

Because (a) I'm still curious as to which I would like best, and (b) I have a wife with an iPad and she'll likely take the one I don't want.

I ordered the Portenzo before even knowing of the Dodo. I did look into the Treegloo but don't think it's as nice. And I don't like some things about the Pad and Quill. So the Portenzo was the obvious choice. Until I saw the Dodo. Now it's a close race.

After seeing someone posted pics of a comp II with yellow lining I emailed Darin and asked if I could have my lining for my comp II in dark blue. Liz responded saying the order cannot be returned due to customization (expected) and that a frame and cover will have to be pulled to fit my needs. I'm not sure why they have to take apart what was already built. She said "a" and not "your" so it probably doesn't mean they need to take my specific frame apart. I think it means they have a stack of comp II parts with the default black lining already made and they work from there?

I'm really curious but didn't write back because I don't want to hinder them from production.

All mine were answered professionally and promptly as well! My last email about color change was answered within 5 minutes. Impressive.

Update on the splinter from my previous review

Hi folks,

I've posted an update on my blog (along with more photos) about the splinter I noticed near the volume rocker on my case's frame. The previous photos made it look more like a crack in the frame, but it was actually easily removed and I really don't notice it anymore.

Portenzo sent my replacement case within a week. First one had some warping in the frame and ipad was not sitting in the case properly so was loose.

Great service, they got me a new one (which is perfect) and return shipping label.

Well done.

I realize they are not going in exact order but what #'s are they shipping now? - 7000's , 8000's or 9000's?

I could swear that earlier in the week I saw in their FB page that they would be into the 6000's by the end of the week. But based on some of the order #'s I have seen posted as recieveing notifications they may be bouncing arounfd that area.

Maybe whoever if in charge of the production needs glasses:D I would happily give them mine if it helps get these cases out faster.

I'm at 9500 or so, I'm not expecting it until July...

You are correct. Although, take the 6000's with a grain of salt. I'm in the 5200's and haven't seen a shipment notification. I have seen others with the exact or similar orders get theirs already even though their order number was higher. Go figure.
