Especially since the hole is cut into wood for every case. Why would they charge?

It used to be free, but then when they got an influx of 7-9,000 orders, they got greedy, and realized that 9,000 x 4.95= about 44,500 dollars, lots of money, but I'm not mad at them, that's how they make their money.

Doubt it. Even at 9000 orders, with the materials and time it takes to make a product like this, Portenzo is probably making a living, but certainly not making anyone rich.

No one debates their level of wealth,

however 45,000 is enough to salary/hire one more team member =D

Hiring and taking time to train that person during a busy time also contributed to the mess.

Remember when they said they hired a new team member and a bunch of cases went out with the wrong bummpers and stuff.

Well when you hire you also have to train and then monitor. Maybe they don't have time to monitor. They were already behind making cases then they had to remake the cases that the new member messed up. Communicate with those customers and remake cases and send those cases out.

Hiring a functioning and a productive group member for a high quality hand made product...takes time.

I got this email today after inquiring where I stand on an order # in the 9000's:

We're currently shipping into the #6000s. We are still catching up on some older 23.5s and Moroccos. We cannot give you any more specific information at this time. By late next week, we should be able to update you solely based on your order number. Until then, please be patient– know that we are working very hard to catch up on all orders.

You will get a shipping notification when it ships with tracking information. Please do not to respond to ask for more specific information, as we do not have it. Your case will ship as soon as our creative little hands can make it. Again, thank you for your patience. In general, we will not respond to order status inquiries at this time.

Thanks!
Caitlin

This is perfectly acceptable to me and I think a professional answer....... until then, my octavo and treegloo cases are working fine....

I received exactly the same email last week.

They've had over 10,000 cases and so far we've seen less than 5 here with defects. Take facebook ones into account and still their failure rate is really quite high. Higher than Apple's! :p

"I was considering placing an order when things die down a bit, but if this continues, it looks like it won't be with Portenzo."

Cool. If you want it, but it. If you don't, then don't. I personally couldn't care less.

You are really funny with your figures of what their failure rate is. I also find it very funny that you have an inside track on what Apples failure rate is.

If they had shipped 10,000 cases % would be well within any companies acceptable fail rate. While nobody likes fails, what really counts is what they do once they find out from the customer that they have managed to ship a fail.

Ugh, it wasn't like that (free camera hole if you wished so) when I ordered a month ago, they are getting greedy it seems.

Before long, they will start charging for interior colors 0.0

EDIT: This goes out to all you negative karma reppers, although I already am 90% sure I know who it is, get a life please....=0

With the added time of cutting a hole in the case, I cannot see how you can say they are getting greedy. Does it not cost money from the other suppliers to have a camera opening ( I think so ).

They probably did not realize how much the demand was going to be for camera holes. Like someone else stated on here, it is not exactly easy to use with the way the case is designed. It can be done, but some may find it difficult at times. And like I said, cutting the whole adds time to the making of the case which slows the book making process down from a manufacturing stand point.

There is that GREEDY word again. It could be a ploy to get people to stop ordering with the camera hole. HMMMMM, No camera whole case is done in 10 minutes, with camera whole case is done in 15 minutes.

Or dollars lost because case is lost due to hole not lining up properly and case has to be made again adding to the time to produce as well as the lost profits.

Seems only natural to me to charge for something that is costing extra to produce but who am I to know this. Heck if I was making the thing I surely would charge more than $4.95 for the hole, especially if there was a chance I may have to remake the case because some dumb a^% cut the hole in the wrong spot.

Finally someone in this thread that understands that a warm body is not always the answer. Its just like some guy that wanted them to put a temp in the customer service and provide them with some standard template responses to send to customers. Yes some of the questions can be answered by these templates, but when you have 100's of people asking about CUSTOM work the person responding has to have some clue about the operation and that cannot be taught over night.

got mine today. looks good. worth the wait? eh. maybe.

morrocco
light blue
stylus holder
camera hole
white iPad

I understand some of you have been waiting for a stupid long time but when you say maybe what is your basis for that? Was the work not up to snuff? Just curious if there were issues since most that have responded thought that it was worth it even though it took so long.

Not having an issue in a product does not always justify the long wait for it. I guess if a consumer finds the product's quality to be extraordinary, then he may say that the wait is justified. But again, that's on a case to case basis.

I have a dodo for my iPad1 but the features offered on the portenzo appealed to me more, smart cover, camera hole, stylus holder.

I like the way my iPad seats in the dodo better, the portenzo is not flush with the face. causing a step, noticeable one at that. I should not have paid for the stylus holder. don't like the inconsistency that is in the look of the wood for the cut out. the pressed wood leaves those visible layers that make the wood look cheap.

i like the color, light blue, and it feels good in my hands. but I should have bought a dodo. I guess I will order a dodo and sell this one on eBay. sigh.

And you seem to know a lot about how long it takes, and you are really defending Portenzo a LOT. Very curious that you pop up when they are not responding and constantly defending, even against people that ACTUALLY have the product. You must be their biggest fan :D

I'm begining to believe it's cooler to be waiting for a shipment, then it is to actually have a Portenzo case.

I'll continue to wait.

Reiterating for the doubters, I actually own a case, unlike some who never even ordered, or intended to order, and just come to flamebait us..........

The main advantage they had was free camera hole(extinct) and free interior colors (soon to be extinct at this rate.

Exactly!
Sandman quintuple posts are fail, is fail.

Just got mine, will do a better review later, it's perfect I love it except the yellow is way too light for me, but that was my choice. I just thought it would be more robust, close to the background or pics they had of it.

Beware shoddy quality!

I had been hoping for the best, and I once was their stauch-est defender, but Team Portenzo QC is failz! Maybe cause the new girl Liz made it, but my Portenzo edges were poorly glued/manufactured and leave me wondering if their business boom hurt the QC.

currently negotiating the terms of the repair with them.

The white leather-substitute binding also could be tighter.

KEEP in mind this is only 2 weeks after receiving it with light to minimal usage.
