Since it is a holiday and I'm feeling lazy, any chance you can post that pages doc so I can print them out and evaluate them all with my son and wife.

Thanks.

Here is it as a PDF file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7qg0wof5kbfcayc/iPhone6RelSizes.pdf?dl=0

No doubt the 5.5" looks a LOT bigger than the 5s but notice that it's not that much bigger than the 4.7" and the Android crowd are quite accustomed to 5-6" smart phone screens. So, from our perspective, it looks like a HUGE jump from 4" but our perspective is heavily skewed by what Apple deemed a perfect size in current and previous iPhones. Now even Apple appears to be moving on to sizes that it (likely) thinks will sell much better than 4". Apple is not doing that because they are stupid.

Thank you sir, this will be great for me to print out also. I appreciate it.

Me too, I want one but will have to wait until early next year.

This is like waiting for Christmas! Super excited for a 5.5" iPhone.

With the iPad Air being the larger iPad and now this reported 'iPhone Air' being the largest iPhone ever, the 'Air' moniker may now be associated with 'large'.

Kind of weird since it initially was associated with low weight and portability. The MacBook line is also doing the opposite, with the MBA being (on average) smaller than MBPs.

I see 'Air' has being the visually thinnest device, where visually thinnest means the most extreme ratio between width or length and thickness. And on this measure the MBA is still 'visually' thinner than at least the 13" rMBP. And the visual impression of thinness of the MBA is enhanced by the tapered design (and thus beats the 15" rMBP).

The 5.5"? Yes it's huge. In fact my entire 5s nearly fits in the screen of the 5.5". But it's still not uncomfortable to hold in one hand. You'll likely use two hands a lot to operate it tho as you'll have to adjust your grip constantly to use with one hand. Also as you said it fits fine in a regular jeans pocket.

Right. I think a LOT of the hate for the 5.5" revolves around imagination instead of actually checking bigger-screen phones out. It's easy to go to a store with a selection of Androids and see (and hold) 6" screens right now. Curiously, they too will fit in normal-sized pockets.

If someone is really stuck on "one handed use", I'm not sure the 4.7" can work for them either unless they have bigger hands. So many of those who must have one-handed use will apparently be jumping to Android. But otherwise, I suspect after people get to see the new phones, the 5.5" will sell quite well. Individual choice will likely split between maximizing portability vs. maximizing screen real estate.

I would guess that those who use an iPhone heavily as a phone will probably be drawn to the 4.7". However those who use an iPhone as an everything (else) device will probably be drawn to the extra .8" screen. Once you mentally let go of the 5s (4") size, the size difference between the 4.7" and 5.5" does not appear to be that great. And in reality, laying a 4.7" on top of a 5.5" leaves only about .5" of added width and about .75" of added height in the latter.

Again, download the PDF, cut out the 2 sizes and get a sense for the relative size differences between 4.7" and 5.5". I have big hands so seeing each in my hands makes me think the 5.5" is the ONLY choice for me.

iPhone Air is a weird name. I think'll they'll do something like iPhone 6 and iPhone 6L. Just something simple to identify the larger model, not a new name. But I did think iPad Air was a bad name too when it was rumored.

The might even get as radical and call it the 4.7" iPhone 6 and the 5.5" iPhone 6. All MBs also have the screen size in their name.

seems strange how apple loved their small screen and even made a crippled 4incher just to be able to hold it in 1 hand and then suddenly they jump from 4>5,5? i mean, isn't 5,5 kinda sorta TOO big for a phone?...

Seems funny that Apple haven't even released anything yet, and people are already basing opinions on thin air..

I'll be going on the AT&T Next plan, it's a no brainer if you want to upgrade every year.

I'm in mexico, no att. Only less than about go plans here because it's too expensive. Most, like us, have to pay cash for the phones. Otherwise it's about 100.00 more a month (over prepaid) us which would be about 2400.00 for a phone.

That's just what I'm trying to do. I'm going for the 5.5" if its camera has better image stabilization. Many years ago in the early 2000's a lot of phones, especially the 'candy bar' phones were quite large compared to 5+ inch smart phones of today. I used to wear one on a belt clip though. I've pocketed my iPhone for so long. Just have to realize that this size change, although noticeable won't be all that different.

I printed out the iPhone templates, and the 5.5" feels wayyyy to big. I think the 4.7" is going to be the winner for me. I wish they'd shrink the damn bezel a little more at the top and bottom. Just feels like wasted space to me. I think that will be iPhone 7 though.

SAMSUNG created phablet category in 2011, Apple copied it.

RIP Think different.

this is dumb for a few reasons. one, you're obviously just trolling. two, samsung is going to be first to the market with almost everything because they just throw it out to the public to see what sticks. third, leave steve alone.

Blimey Charlie, that 5.5" phone is just HUGE!
It's not far off the size of my iPad mini.

For me, my 5S will serve me well as a phone for a few years to come.
And my iPad Mini for sofa surfin, coffee shop surfing etc.

I can see how someone might go for the 5.5" as a compromise between all devices, so have one device rather than two.
Phone, but also a large screen for surfing/work/games/etc.
But it IS a compromise.
[Or perhaps Jony will tell us "this is not a compromise.. it's a fusion.. an amalgamation of the best things about the iPhone and iPad, in just one revolutionary new device..."]

Here is the biggest issue with making the iphone bigger. The bottom and top bezels are too thick. The bottom being the biggest concern. It's already a stretch for someone with small hands to reach to the top left back button on the 4 inch iphone. Not mention awkward length for sitting in front jean pockets.

Unless they move the back button to the bottom (not going to happen) most will definitely need two hands free for a 5.5 inch iphone and small handed people on the 4.7 inch version.

No bueno.

Anybody else get the 'Complete iPhone 6' collection from Spigen?#
Can't wait. I'm definitely on the fence on what I want.
I thought I knew. Guess not.

What an exageration.

200mm x 134mm ipad mini

158mm x 78mm speculated for 5.5 iphone

123mm x 58.6123mm iphone 5s

The projected 5.5 phone is closer in size to the 5s than the ipad mini. The height of the 5.5 is really not that much bigger than the width of the mini.
