This site is for getting rumors on the latest products before they're presented at a Keynote.

If you would rather see the products for the first time at the Keynote, stay away from the site.

Captain Obvious

I am sure you're intelligent enough to realize that by now.
Now be cool enough and simply admit it and live on, thanks!

Captain Condescending

Yeah...i'm the one who made 'sour' posts.

But, other than you, who cares? There were once 17" iMacs. Then, Apple rolled out 24" and 27" iMacs. Take out the 24" iMac and the 27" could be seen as a small television instead of a bigger iMac. But again, who cares? Those who wanted a 27" iMac got what they wanted. Those who wanted a 24" got what they wanted too.

Soon, Apple will roll out 4.7" and 5.5". While the 5s will probably still be kept around, the sentiment will quickly shift. I expect words like "puny" and phrases like "how did we ever get by with such tiny screens?" to be flying within days of the launches. That's how it goes.

When the rumor began to fly that Apple was going to go 4", there was huge backlash slinging "abomination", "stupid", "99% don't want", "fragmentation", "Steve Jobs said" and on and on. Then the rumors piled up so it looked really likely and much of that sentiment shifted into "wait & see" and "it's kind of growing on me". Then Apple rolls out 4" and it was quickly "shut up and take my money" and "best iPhone ever". Then phones with screens bigger than 4" became the new "abominations", "stupid", "99% don't want".

[...]

We don't overly put down alternate sizes of iMacs, iPads and laptops. But here, we find such great fault that Apple will roll out 2 size options for an iPhone. Why? Makes no sense to me… especially when those that feel passionate about one size of the other will be able to get the one they want.

I think it's not so much the doffernt sizes as it is the OPTIONS between the sizes, rumors, still.
there are huge variances:

Sapphire
128 Option
OIS

those are pretty big differences. I'm getting the 5 so I don't care really lol but to the ones wanting a high end 4.7 device... well I can see their point of anger. however, no one knows anything yet so we should all remain calm. STAKE

Been following transfer day deadline for soccer today, it's pure madness:D. Hoping for a similar outbreak on the 9th:apple:

Which one? No will remember or poster will be mocked for life? It's one or the other . . .

No one will remember and decide to mock him for life. It was not one or the other - it was one statement.

----------

I'm guessing he/she is joking, mocking those that keep parroting that.

Could be. You can't always tell the difference between that parroting and parody.

I am rather interested if the larger iPhone has something else to differentiate from its standard sibling, for example more sensitivity levels as to allow use of various styluses (as for Note, for example). Use of various sensitivity levels is good for artists to draw.

Like more RAM for god's sake.

Hmmmm? Could very well be. The 5s is around 12.5CM long, so this video showing over 15CM in length kinda makes me wonder. (believe the 4.7" is around 13-14CM in length?) Either that or we have some decent video manipulation happening here. Oh well, next Tuesday!

Right. I think a LOT of the hate for the 5.5" revolves around imagination instead of actually checking bigger-screen phones out. It's easy to go to a store with a selection of Androids and see (and hold) 6" screens right now. Curiously, they too will fit in normal-sized pockets.

If someone is really stuck on "one handed use", I'm not sure the 4.7" can work for them either unless they have bigger hands. So many of those who must have one-handed use will apparently be jumping to Android. But otherwise, I suspect after people get to see the new phones, the 5.5" will sell quite well. Individual choice will likely split between maximizing portability vs. maximizing screen real estate.

I would guess that those who use an iPhone heavily as a phone will probably be drawn to the 4.7". However those who use an iPhone as an everything (else) device will probably be drawn to the extra .8" screen. Once you mentally let go of the 5s (4") size, the size difference between the 4.7" and 5.5" does not appear to be that great. And in reality, laying a 4.7" on top of a 5.5" leaves only about .5" of added width and about .75" of added height in the latter.

Again, download the PDF, cut out the 2 sizes and get a sense for the relative size differences between 4.7" and 5.5". I have big hands so seeing each in my hands makes me think the 5.5" is the ONLY choice for me.

.5" and .75" IS a big difference. These devices aren't measured in feet.

seems strange how apple loved their small screen and even made a crippled 4incher just to be able to hold it in 1 hand and then suddenly they jump from 4>5,5? i mean, isn't 5,5 kinda sorta TOO big for a phone?...

The board demanded innovation. While a larger phone isnt innovation, Apple are now giving the public what they want. Gone are the dark days when Apple knew what you want, not you yourself. That applied in the early modern smartphone days, i.e. first iPhone, but not for years.

Extensability, Continuity, Handoff, Homekit, Healthkit, these are innovative. While the latter two are not new, you will find Apple's implementation will be perfect, you do not need to know of the many many incompatible protocols.

As for the 5.5, if YOU find it too big for YOUR use case, get the 4.7 or a 4" 5S. The word smartphone is obsolete for many of us, who use the phone app rarely. Finally, a choice!!!

.5" and .75" IS a big difference. These devices aren't measured in feet.

You might want to check which symbol means "feet" and which means "inches". I think you might have them backwards. Or maybe they mean something else wherever you might live?

If it's confusing to the metric crowd, the difference is 1.27cm and 1.91cm. In other words, the 5.5" iPhone case is about 1.27cm wider and 1.91cm taller than the 4.7" case.

An American penny (coin) is also about .75" across, so if you laid an iPhone 4.7" on top of an iPhone 5.5" so that- say- the left & bottom of both phones were aligned, you could lay 1 penny above the 4.7" and it would just about perfectly cover the part at the top of the 5.5" phone that is peeking out from behind the top of the 4.7".

i am probably alone BUT I LOVE THESE BANDS

finally its all the same material unlike those current ugly random glass pieces

Somehow the bands remind me of Leeloo from Fifth Element. Which is not a bad thing.

So excited for the 1GB of RAM to power this beast

CPU/GPU powers the beast, RAM stores open apps, etc.

I see the announcement being underwhelming. Last years was, as the rumours where very close, so they are leaks. Part of the underwhelming is due to no surprise.

4.7"
5.5"
A8
Improved camera hardware
Same RAM
Extra health sensors
No sapphire screen
Curved edges

The 3GS back was plastic so of course it was molded.

I'm pretty sure that Apple knows more than me and you about the advantages/inconvenients of aluminum milling vs. casting. :)

They've been using milled aluminum since the first Unibody MacBooks and they've mastered the art of it.

The iPhone 6 clone shells are actually made of plastic, the unibody process is not something you can do in your basement with a CNC machine (not at this precision level).

From what I understand, you can't create such precise shapes simply by molding aluminum. Most molded aluminum parts end up being machined anyway.

And simple aluminum casting produces air bubbles inside the metal, making it less strong than the unibody process of milling the shape out of a strong pure aluminum block.

Maybe a metallurgist can chime in and give us a better answer.
I was thinking they would buff those out. I know it's the inside, but the tools they use could polish it, kind of like the Mac Pro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbWOQWw1wkM

I was thinking pressed metal, then polished. It's one of those little things that I see that just doesn't look right in these videos.

I guess in 7 days, we'll know.

This was touted a while back, but may help:

Umm were you on a deserted island when Cook said Apple is doubling down on secrecy?
No. There were other people on the island with me when he said that.
double down
(in blackjack) double a bet after seeing one's initial cards, with the requirement that one additional card be drawn.
By definition, doubling down is a short-term proposition. Even if you took his statement from over two years ago it to mean an ongoing policy of doubling down, then you have consider that they only do it when they have something valuable in in their cards.

By not foolishly doubling their bet on iPhone secrecy, and instead protecting the new products like the redesigned Mac Pro and the reportedly upcoming (but so far unseen) watch, they are doubling down as it's intended to be done.

And there are likely other products in the pipeline that you are completely unaware of, since he's cleverly manipulated you into thinking you are getting the top-secret scoop on the seventh annual update of the iPhone.

SAMSUNG created phablet category in 2011, Apple copied it.

RIP Think different.

Image

LOL, really... samsung, you sure, because history doesn't say that, you just made that up? I don't think you really have much of a point, apple doesn't just rush stuff to market, there were phablet prototypes in the apple lab before the original iPhone ever came to market. They chose the products that worked best at the time.

In tracing the 10 earliest devices in the history of the phablet concept, PC Magazine called the 1993 AT&T EO 440, "the first true phablet",[6] followed by the following devices:

2007 HTC Advantage (5.0 inch screen)
2007 Nokia N810WiMAX Edition (4.13" screen)
2009 Verizon Hub (7.0" screen)
2010 LG GW990 (4.8" screen)
2010 Dell Streak (5.0" screen)
2011 Dell Streak 7 (7.0" screen)
2011 Acer Iconia Smart (4.8" screen)
2011 Samsung Galaxy Player 5 (5.0" screen)
2011 Pantech Pocket
2011 Samsung Galaxy Note (5.3" screen)

Someone should post something regarding what they think Steve Jobs might think.

another one ? These are popping up like flies...

Takes note also of "no round buttons" on the side anymore. Most don't wanna admit it... cos... well, ya know.. Apple fans :p
