please don't bash apple, this is the "new normal!"

I want more thinness AND longer battery life AT THE SAME TIME. Apple has thousands upon thousands of the brightest engineers, pull something off without compromises as I am sure Steve Jobs would have done if he is still here. He would never accept the SLOW RATE of innovation with each iteration.
Make sure to include the /s tag on these sort of posts, otherwise people will take them literally around here.

Battery life will be improved over the 11, if anything. Have you all learned nothing from watching other manufacturers struggle to achieve iPhone's battery life performance with larger cells?

There is never a good excuse for a new model of a modern phone to have a smaller battery than the phone it’s replacing because even if the newer model has become more efficient to the point where there’s no discernible difference in overall battery life, the simple fact is the phone could’ve had even better battery life had it kept the same capacity. Google was raked over the coals for doing this with the Pixel 4 and it’s disappointing to see a similar regression here.

The energy consumption of the Qualcomm 5G chips is a noticeable boost from 4G - that's why the Android phones with them in them are often huge (so they can house massive batteries).

This doesn't bode well for the 12, but we'll have to wait and see. The 12 may be shaping up to be a generation to skip.
And we dont know if they are using x55 or rumored x60 and what those power differences are.
Qualcomm 5G X50 (7 nm) has heavier power usage. Qualcomm said X55 (7 nm) is lower power, and X60 (5 nm) is likely even lower power.

Kuo Ming-chi said the iPhone would get X55, and DigiTimes said X60. I tend to trust Kuo more than DigiTimes, which in this case is easy to do since Qualcomm itself said 2021 for X60, although the chips are available now for sampling so the possibility of 2020 is not completely impossible.

Customer sampling for Snapdragon X60 is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2020. 5G smartphones featuring Snapdragon X60 are expected to launch in early 2021.

Less battery capacity, in the year 2020? = definite NO BUY!
Lets hope the Apple Watch doesn't follow the same fate this year.

MySmartPrice has spotted certifications for three new Apple batteries that it believes could be for the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup, despite them being less capacitive than the batteries in the current iPhone 11 series.
The judges would have accepted capacious. But capacitive? I do not believe that word means what you think it means.

Battery life is good enough on iPhone 11 / iPhone 11 Pro.

I would prefer a reduction in thickness and weight (while keeping the same battery life) rather than an improvement on battery life on iPhone 12. And that seems exactly what Apple is aiming for, so I'm quite happy about this rumor.

4. Felt elated at 2,227 mAh battery on 5.4".

hooray!

The iPhone 5.4 will have SE like battery life with that capacity. Hopefully these capacities are wrong.
How is 2227 mAh smaller than 1800 in the SE 2020? What am I missing?

Hopefully these custom batteries have some sort of chip on them to help eliminate swapping with fresh unauthorized ones. For security and safety.

Coming from the launch day X that i still don't have battery problems with, i will likely get even better battery life because of the 5nm CPU. (vs 10nm)

Battery capacity was similar ( 2716 mAh )

No I meant that iPhone 12(5.4) wont have impressive battery life like iPhone XR had. With 2227 mAh capacity it will probably just last just a day at maximum with light to medium use just like the SE.

Love all the people who think they’re engineers in these comments, who just say throw more battery at it. That’ll solve the problem.
FYI, The higher the battery capacity, the thicker and heavier, the more space it takes up, and the more heat it generates. And as we all know, these new iPhones are going to have 5G, and 5G makes current phones get HOT!!!
Apple has some of the most brilliant engineers ever, I don’t think they’re that stupid. If they are lowering the capacity of the battery, there is clearly a reason for it. Maybe they’re trying not to have a note 7 situation on their hands.
Maybe they are trying to make the phone lighter, seeing as one of the main complaints I’ve seen with the 11 series is that it’s too heavy.
Maybe they needed more room for some new technology that won’t fit with that big a battery.
Maybe because of the A14, they can still have equivalent battery life to the current iPhones with a smaller capacity.
But no, for all of you speculating, Apple is not doing this to make the iPhones battery worse. Why would they ever do that, what benefit would making the battery life worse be to them.

Ahhhhh, yes I see. It definitely won't be XR length. Maybe the 6.1" 12 will have similar battery life.
I'm hopeful that the 5.4" will have better battery life than the SE2 since it will have ~400 more mAh, and OLED.

To sell a better phone next year 😂

I wonder how Samsung is able to cram a 6000 mAh battery in their budget phones. Samsung Galaxy M31 has 6000 mAh battery, 4 rear cameras too. How do they get space to fit a massive battery?

Me too I seriously hope that iPhone 12(5.4) has good battery life.
