im not familiar with how its worked in past years, but is there a good chance that new products like the 3g iPhone would actually be released to retail the same day as WWDC? Or is it more likely for a product announcement and a future release date? Thanks!

If they do go on sale Monday, my guess is it will be online shipping in two to three weeks, and available in store the last Friday of June. If they have them available in stores Monday I will be amazed and very happy :)

.

What makes it real for me is the rest of the ad. The layout, typography choice, and verbage - all very Apple.
Not hard to regurgitate either. Again, the black one is missing the connector, these are fake. The video confrencing is the most convincing... I won't believe anything for certain until I see it.

It's no fun not to take a stand. I call fake, and I still believe the earlier black and white casings are real :)

And your argument means nothing. Look at Apple's website gallery of iPhone. It is missing the power/standby button. Apple does all product pictures from the computer now and no longer uses real photos for product advertisement. Even within this thread, the Gen 1 iPhone is displayed with and without hardware features (buttons).

Also, if you read the other thread, it appears these could be early versions of the new gen iPhone. These could have been taken mid photoshop.

i think the front camera placement looks horrible on these pictures even if it is meant for properly capturing a users face... there was a mock up posted somewhere here weeks ago i thought looked really good with the camera in the speaker... i thought that looked more appealing to me

The Apple gallery is NOT missing the sleep/wake button at all. Why would they market something that is missing physical features on their website? That's like Apple showing off the latest MacBook without a trackpad.

These photos look convincing [at least to me].

Given the amount of leaks at Apple over the past year, it would seem plausible for these shots to be true. Another point I'd like to address, is that the day/night before MWSF '08 [right before the MacBook Air was introduced], WIRED magazine ran an article on how it received last minute information on design specifications for the MacBook Air [MacRumors link here]. So it's not completely out of question that the same is occurring here with the 3G iPhone ["iPhone 2"] and the mentioned photo/specification leaks...

Just trying to draw a correlation by tossing in my 2 pennies.

That said, these could be easily faked in Photoshop. I also concur with the "blasting all the major tech blogs for recognition" sentiment - it doesn't make sense to blast widely, as it would be almost too easy to trace back to the original person who leaked the information.

Whatever it may be, these photos/mockups are done real well - kudos to [insert name here].

We'll find out Monday!

people who broadcast "leaked" images to as many sites as possible want the attention a little too much to be believed.

arn
True, I doubt they are real. But hopefully the real thing looks similar to this, I like the look and video chat would be sweet.

Most right handed people I know hold the phone with their left hand so they can dial with their right... meaning that a camera on the right of the phone would line up correctly. Plus, we're only really talking about a few inch difference on the phone itself... Which I'm sure isn't a huge deal

Not to say these are necessarily real, but I agree with this point. I'm right handed and carry my phone in my left pocket and always hold it to my left ear. It's easier to hold a phone to your left ear than it is to insert and turn a key with your left hand.

If this is a fake, it's a quite brilliant way to do it. Rather than say you've come across some Apple promotional material, claim to have seen some promotional material in the process of being made. Makes it seem more believable I guess.

I'm pretty sure these are real, apple is definitely moving towards the tapered design as seen in the macbook air and this iphone is nothing but another step in that direction. Quality is on par to what the nano was before it was released and it was straight up true! I LOVE THIS!

most of these previous "leaked" pictures seemed pretty believable, and compared to these new leaked images....i guess it seems pretty believable

Camera

The CAMERA:

So, these pictures look fairly authentic, but think about this: The two camera lenses are in the EXACT same position on the phone. One lens is pointing out the back, another faces forward (Video Chat). Anyone that knows anything about cameras knows that the phone is simply too thin to have two cameras in opposing directions on something that small. It's just impossible.

my two cents.

The "iChat. Now showing everywhere." slide is a little suss for me.

As I recall, Apple tend to call out footnotes in a smaller, greyer font than the main body of text. Will try and find an example of what I mean.

Pics look real nice though.

EDIT: flickr pic here http://www.flickr.com/photos/27431673@N02/2557744734/sizes/l/ and Apple page here http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/mac_mini?mco=MTIyMDQ

The (1) and (2) text is indented and the 2 above the period after "Windows" is too close to the period for "standard" Apple copy.

This could, of course, just be an early rendition as previously mentioned.

the background looks fake behind Carlos... could it be an iChat background?

There's no way they could pull off iChat backgrounds on a phone. If you've ever played with them before on a Mac, any movement will kill the effect, making pixels get knocked out of the recognition. Even barely detectable shadows will throw it off. So what makes you think a handheld device that is going to be far from steady will be able to keep an iChat background?

Not to say they are genuine, but if the iphone did do iChat, well why wouldn't it be able to talk to someone using iChat on a mac? or any AIM client for that matter. What would be really exciting would be if it AVed with skype or messenger.

Assuming this is all authentic, yes. The document with the iChat and Exchange text says, "Start a real-time video chat with other AT&T subscribers via 3G networking, or with iChat buddies via wifi."

Here's my take on all of this. It's definitely very convincing, and a good job whether or not it's fake. I say we can't criticize capitalization and formatting differences in these shots. It's obvious work is still being done on these. Guides are still out, and so on. In that given situation, it could be next for the person working on it to do. I also would like to stress what one guy had to say...
Everyone's main argument that these are fake is because the red phone is missing the power button on the top, which is a clear sign of something being photoshopped.

But guess what? Legit product shots are almost always photoshopped. (I used to get paid to fix up product shots) I would get rid of smudges, glare on screens, cut out the product and place them in a different environment. The latter seems to be what happened here. the photoshop guy cut out the phones and placed it on the white background, added the trademark apple reflection, but accidentilly trimmed off a button.
So imo, this all works out pretty well. But there are a few things that stand out to me that no one has pointed out yet.

First, why are they using Photoshop for publishing print materials? A job like that is usually done in a program like Quark. Seems a little fishy to me.

Second, one of the shots reveals that the work is being done on a MacBook Pro. Why would someone who would obviously be working in the graphics department at Apple do a job on a laptop when they could just as easily do it on a kick-ass Mac Pro? With huge-ass Cinema Displays, nonetheless? I know graphics designers, and they LOVE screen real-estate. Then suppose the idea that it's on a laptop is because they needed to work on it at home. But wrong again. The shots would HAVE to have been taken internally at Apple HQ. If the work was being done on MBPs, those things would NOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES leave that campus with that kind of sensitive information on it.

Otherwise, this is an EXCEPTIONALLY good fake. +10 Awesomesauce points for this guy.

My 2 euro cents..

Real, or the best fake ever.

The use of current apple design cues (MBA style body) is very very convincing. Shortcomings in text accuracy etc can be put down to the fact that it looks more or less like marketing materials in the process of being put together.

I think that's a pretty good point.. and hope it's true because I'm not very impressed by the design

I admit I'd be very happy with this design, in addition to the iChat AV functionality. But iChat for Windows? I don't know...

These are by far the most legit "fakes" yet. They do seem to match the case descriptions that third-parties like Belkin were describing. Also, the new tapered design does harken back to the MacBook Air.

I think this may be it.
