I mean the unlocked version. They're all the same and should work on AT&T. The one that says "T-Mobile Sim Free". Don't let AT&T get over with that bogus charge.

I was going to do this, but there is a small difference between the AT&T iPhone and the other ones; the AT&T one supports "Band 30" or something like that. Which just means that all of the phones support the current AT&T LTE bands, but the AT&T one specifically already supports the new AT&T bands coming out.

I posted a question regarding this 15 dollar fee in another thread, I am glad there is considerable resistance and I will definitely follow up on this issue.

All new next customer setups come with a 15 dollar charge. It's been going on since August. Obviously everyone can call and dispute but you don't really have a ground to go on if it was disclosed to you at the order and still order after seeing the 15 dollar upgrade or activation fee charge. Some will have success with it others won't. Really depends on who you talk to.

Guys my experience with em is they usually waive it, even when I sign a 2 year contract. The only hustle is calling em.

AT&T, from the comments on these boards, seems to be the absolute worst with pricing, plans and other tom-foolery. Is it the brand name that keeps you people using them? T-Mobile seems to be a front runner for customer service and I carry Sprint, have never had an issue and have the cheapest Unlimited Plan out of all the carriers.

No, AT&T's fee was only $15. Verizon's is $40.

That's fine for Next since it's a loan program, but NOT OK for full price purchases!

I don't get charged $15 by Time Warner when I replace a computer in my house that connects to wifi and this is no different.

Not a 6s but I upgraded contract to another 5s two days ago, att waived my $45 dollar activation fee took 5 min phone call. They added a 45 credit to account before I went to store to upgrade actually

Taking a page out of the Apple playbook "How To Maximise Profits" the only reason AT&T is getting pushback is they couldn't give the charge a clever product name like Apple uses so successfully.

I'm excited with this I ordered the att for myself with the new 30 band. Yeee

Oh. They are getting a call from me. I spent $1000 to buy the phone outright from Apple. Nothing is changing with my plan. All I am doing is taking my current SIM and moving it. Exactly what AT&T is doing to deserve $15? Also, if my phone is locked that will be another call.
I'm going to file an FCC complaint. We all should do that. And yes, Att will be required to respond. I still have phone number of person from ATT that contacted me last year over my FCC complaint about unlocking.

This. The T-Mobile version might not support this given what I'm reading. That's why many of us played it safe and went with the AT&T model.

ATT told me that when I upgrade I may see a $15.00 upgrade fee appear on my order but not to worry about it as since I have been already with the next plan that it would not apply to me and would not be charged and if i was charged for me to call them back to have it removed so that is apparently for new users NOT already on the Next Plan. Does this answer your question?

OK so I just finished talking with an AT&T agent and she was nice and understanding. so basically what she said was there's no $15 charge showing under my account at this time but she noted on my account that if there ever was a charge that it should be waived. She said that my account shouldn't be charged because it wasn't an upgrade or it wasn't a NEXT plan and it's paid in full price. I'll wait and see.

You still ought to mark your calendar to check your bill when the next statement cuts. A Note from a CSR means jack to the billing computer.

That's news to me. I assumed it was for existing Next Plan users. Well.. I've got the $15 upgrade fee on my order and I'll definitely attempt on getting that waived.

I bought two phones last night (both lines previously on NEXT). One I payed full price, the other started a new NEXT plan.

The full price phone has the $15 fee. No fee on the NEXT phone.

It was ordered directly from Apple and VZW's "upgrade" fee is $40!

Same here. $80 just to add phones I paid for to my account is ridiculous. It does say that you'll be charged on your first bill, so it may be a message that goes to everyone but only applies subsidized plan customers. I'm going to wait and see.

that's what I'm thinking, too. I was just over on VZW support pages and a VZW rep (can they be trusted) said if you pay full retail then there's no upgrade fee. So we'll wait and see.

1. If you are upgrading a NEXT that was activated before August 1st, you should not be subject to the $15 fee.

2. If this is a brand new NEXT line (fresh line,no upgrade), that will be $15 please.

3. My experience with AT&T has been good with regards to these sorts of fees. I have always had them credited and/or waived. This was exclusively done using the online chat. Be nice and don't play the gotcha game. Also, we don't know if there will be a credit applied once the bill is cut (similar to how the NEXT discounts on individual lines are tabulated).

4. I setup my T-Mobile lines today and will be porting over from AT&T in 2 weeks.

Yes.

preordered two 6sPlus Verizon models for pay in full. Indicated each would require $40 upgrade fees.

No, AT&T's fee was only $15. Verizon's is $40.

That $40 was a misprint from what I'm reading this morning. That's only if you're buying the phone on a contract.

Plus, if you were buying off contract why not get the SIM-free version direct from Apple? It works on all four of the big carriers as its whitelisted on all of them (last I checked) like the iPads.

That may be true regarding setting up next or using the apple upgrade program, I don't know since I am less familiar with the boilerplate for those plans, but why would I be charged this fee after buying a full price contract free phone? Makes no sense...

That's what I thought. I'm hoping the $15 upgrade fee that's on my order confirmation is just something that's always added to the order, but it won't appear on my bill. (I ordered through Apple Store app.) I started on Next last year.
