That $40 was a misprint from what I'm reading this morning. That's only if you're buying the phone on a contract.

Plus, if you were buying off contract why not get the SIM-free version direct from Apple? It works on all four of the big carriers as its whitelisted on all of them (last I checked) like the iPads.
I wanted a new SIM and I didn't want to go to the verizon store to get it...

I bought two phones last night (both lines previously on NEXT). One I payed full price, the other started a new NEXT plan.

The full price phone has the $15 fee. No fee on the NEXT phone.

Actually, I take that back. I just looked again, and both phones list the $15 fee. The fees weren't charged to the credit card though, it says they'll be on the next month's bill. Hopefully the message from Apple is wrong and AT&T is not actually going to bill it.

You can call in and get it replaced. They just overnight one to you for free. Done it multiple times with my 5 thinking the issues it had were because of the SIM.
Good to know. Already pre-ordered both verizon models. Hopefully the $40 upgrade fee was in error...

I'm pretty sure it was. It said something similar to me last year but it never got charged (bought my 6 Plus off contract). If they do charge you, I'd dispute that 100% though. That's ridiculous.

You know I never new FAN accounts have the upgrade fee waved.

I have been buying from AT&T (iPhone 4) and Apple (4s/5/5s/6) for a long time. I recall never paying the fee. Last year I was charged the fee, and I even went into the AT&T store. They absolutely refused to wave the fee. Gave me crap about costs of doing business and such. So I had this agreement, and they "refused" to honor it. Are the CSRs at the AT&T store, that stupid? Also I tried to get it waved on the phone, and the CSRs said they were unable to process that and I have to go into the store. - There has to be some kind of scam going on.

Anyway this year, I see no fee, at least up front. I wonder if I can get the fee waved from last year, THIS year. IE: $40 credit.

No one is talking about buying the phone unlocked with the grandfathered unlimited plan...

I bought the 6 plus last year at an Apple Store since paying full price online was not an option at preorder. They didn't know my account info so there was no way to charge me an upgrade fee.
After using the phone for a few days with me old SIM, I got a text from AT&T that I needed a new one. While it made no difference functionally from my iPhone 5 SIM, it was free so I did it. I requested it be unlocked on AT&T's site and they unlocked it immediately.

I have no reason to pay that upgrade fee having no contract and no Next plan or anything like it. If the $15 is not an error, I will be furious. It's the principle of the thing.

I was going to do this, but there is a small difference between the AT&T iPhone and the other ones; the AT&T one supports "Band 30" or something like that. Which just means that all of the phones support the current AT&T LTE bands, but the AT&T one specifically already supports the new AT&T bands coming out.

What does this mean to me in Dayton, Ohio. Tried to do some research and not sure how it affects me atm. Assume if I buy thru Apple no 2300mhz???

WTF was that charge all about? They charge me $15 for a full price iPhone. I paid full price for it. I shouldn'pay any upgrade fee. I'm not even doing anything with my current plan. This is ridiculous. IRATE.
i'm not trying to be mean or rude but, i work for at&t and your attitude will get you no where. you should calm down and be a adult. next month call in and be nice to the rep don't be ungrateful and ask nicely to waive the fee. trust me that will get you a lot further.

Not being sarcastic here, but didn't you know that ATT was charging people about 15 upgrade fee? Even T-mobilt Ceo John mentioned via youtube. But yeah...it's a norm now. Att will continue to charge for upgrade. As matter of fact...they will increase.

Oh thank you for having the almighty power to control my att $15 charge. I bow down.

Sorry but I agree you're overreacting about $15 in the scheme of things BEFORE even talking to ATT if they will credit the charge.

And technically they haven't charged you ANYTHING yet as it's illegal to bill a credit card this far in advance of shipping the item so you may not even be billed the $15 in the end of the day and it was a placeholder in the pre-order.

Again, blowing things way out of proportion before even knowing information.

If it's THAT big a deal cancel your order and go to another carrier. end of topic.

Both Verizon and ATT are horrible regardless of the dollar amount of these fees they are nonsense think of it as a tax just because they can. The reasoning they give you about how if helps pay for network overhead are insulting because the company has trained their employees to talk to the general consumer like they are stupid and in the end they know nobody can do anything. They make plenty off of the monthly service to not have to change these fees. When they report profits to stockholders they should disclose how much comes from fees. I also believe if they miss hitting customer growth numbers they simply raise a few fees to make up. Both CEO's should be removed in my opinion.

The keyword is upgrade. That means I'm changing my existing plan and they're involve with the process. What's the difference between me going to the store and buying an extra phone out of full retail? Were they charging people an upgrade fee for those? Same story here when I paid full dang retail price. I shouldn't have been charged. SCAM all the way.
