I sorry for such a stupid question but i am new and i got my ip4 on release day and my battery life i would say is a little below average but nothing that i would bring it back for because my luck id get one that is worse

But....Ive seen people talk about setting up the phone as new and im hoping someone can explain how that is done. Like step by step...i hook my iphone up to itunes and then what? I dont see anything that says set up as new. And then after its done how do I add my apps and stuff. Any info would be appreciated...thanks in advance

Edit: Part of the reason im confused is if u have an issue with an app and ur putting the same apps back on ur phone wont u still have the same issue....can someone please explain...thanks

I haven't read the whole of this thread but I thought I'd just post to say that I thought my battery life was below normal and on friday I was in the apple store and thought I'd mention something.

I had started to think that perhaps I was asking for more out of my phone than possible so I was a little taken back when they hooked it upto their diagnostics and found that I was only getting about 11hours standby. No questions asked and I walked out with a brand new phone. Apparently they have had a few back but not many. My phone according to the serial number was produced week of launch so if anyone else is having battery issues then I really suggest going to apple and get their phone hooked to their diagnostics

at work today; usage is mainly MMS, EchoFon, and Facebook. Lightweight Safari and lightweight camera usage.

LOL what does this show if ur battery is charing...hahaha

46% remaining, 3 hrs 45 mins of usage and 11 hrs 26 mins standby, and all I did was twitter, two short youtube videos, and some surfing the web. I dont feel like this battery is very good at all :/ My first phone I had to take in and get replaced because of a faulty SIM card and horrible reddish discoloration on pics. The new phone doesn't have those problems, but it's battery sucks. I'm not wrong, am I, in thinking that the above quoted stats arent very good?

eta that my first phone's battery was amazing - a lot better than what I'm getting with this one.

I really don't think it's that bad.

You're getting around 7 hours of use, assuming you didn't listen to the iPod/music for any length of time. 7 hours is not bad. That's about what I and many get, and I'm pretty happy with it.

The trouble is, I'd bet a lot of these people showing 9-10 hours were using their iPod approx. 2-3 hours that day, I can get my usage to 10 hours too if 3 are iPod. Also, often the 10 hour usage times conveniently show the phone was charged, make of that what you will.

7 hours of non iPod usage fits with what apple claims of this battery, historically apples battery usage times are optimistic and only attainable under perfect circumstances. I'm getting around 2 hours more than the multiple 3gs' I owned, which is about what Apple promised, so I'd say any time you're getting a good 7 hours of non iPod use, your battery is fine, and usage times of 9-11 hours should be taken with a grain of salt.

Honestly if there are people getting 10-12 hours of web surfing, games, talking, and no iPod, apple needs to buy back their phones for battery research, because these lucky ones must have magic batteries. :)

Just my opinion of course.

Usage: 7 hours 21 minutes
Standby: 2 days 6 hours

My usage consisted of:
Mostly Safari web browsing on 3G. Probably 45 minutes wifi.
Lots and lots of Facebook app.
Texting.
General playing with apps, video, camera, etc.
20 minutes tops of talktime.

Hmm, I honestly can't determine whether I should or shouldn't get the battery checked out. I want to say it's only marginally better than my 3g, but I am using the phone more than my 3g as well.

What I'm noticing is that when the thing is in stand by, the battery is awesome. Doesn't move hardly at all. However, using it for things like web browsing, facebook, beejive and nothing really intensive, the percentage drops every 2-3 minutes or so. Does that sound right? My brightness is at 35% or so and I've tried it both with Auto brightness on and off. 3G is on, push notifications are on, and email retrieves once an hour. Here are some quick snaps I grabbed:

been texting using that app Radio, Pandora web surfing and twitter/facebook on a mix of 3G/Wifi also been playing around with the video camera as well recorded like about 10 mins

I doubt the brightness I have it set to should cause this much drain. I'm going to try the drain-and-charge method...

This is my typical, though about an hour was iPod.

When I'm home and on wifi, I keep 3G off, when I leave the house, I turn 3G on and wifi off. Seems to help. Unlike with my 3Gs where I couldn't get through a whole day, I usually can now, often with plenty left over.

Brightness on auto about 40%.

Mostly surfing, but quick with a lot of downloading and uploading, rather than staying on a page for a while reading, which must be easier on the battery.

While I still believe the 10+ hour usage times are because of iPod use mixed in, I'm still very impressed with the battery, I get more power and functionality than my 3GS, yet 2-3 more hours from the battery, and that's really a small miracle.

Had Pandora/iPod playing in the background most of this time.
Brightness was set around 70-75%
Auto Brightness ON
3G ON
95% of Internet usage was over Wi-Fi
Notifications ON
Fetching E-mail Hourly for 2 Accounts
GPS was used for about 15 minutes for a trip to a mall. (Mapquest App)

I've had the iPhone 4 since June 23rd. As you can see I'm not a heavy phone or data user. Still, I think the battery is really great. Compared to my 3G I'm getting an extra day of usage before charging.

The phone was plugged in just to sync new apps and photos.
