Clayj's Home Theatre, Version 2.0
There have been quite a few changes to my home theatre since November 2006, when I
last posted in this thread... so here we go again!
IMAGE ONE (LIVING ROOM)
Not really much has changed here, because there wasn't much to change. But the Runco PL-50c 50" plasma TV (circa 2000) has been replaced by a Samsung LN46A650 46" LCD TV with full 1080p resolution, HDMI inputs, the works. The speakers are still the same Miller & Kreisel 750THX speakers (in a 6.1 configuration) I've had since 2000.

The most noticeable change here is that the Xbox 360 is gone. It's not that I don't have it anymore; but it has been moved to the media closet. Also, the Panja Viewpoint remote control system has been replaced by a Logitech Harmony 1000 universal remote. The Panja was nice, but I hated having to pay someone $75 an hour to program it; I can make all the changes I want to the Harmony, and it's a much lighter remote, too.
IMAGE THREE (MEDIA CLOSET)
This is where most of the changes have taken place. From top to bottom in the Avrak, the components are:
Sony STR-DA5400ES AV receiver (replaces B&K AVR-307)
Xbox 360 Elite
Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray player (replaces Sony DVP-S9000ES DVD player)
Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD HD DVR/cable box
Sony DVP-CX985V 400 DVD changer
Monster power controller
Cable modem + D-Link network switch (for Xbox 360, Blu-ray player, and Elgato)
Elgato HDHomeRun (for viewing and recording ATSC/QAM HDTV channels on Mac Pro)
The old Mitsubishi S-video VCR and Roku PhotoBridge are gone, not to be replaced. The Sony LocationFree TV base station has been moved to my bedroom, since the best video format it supports is S-video and nothing I use now supports that; I may add a Slingbox PRO-HD to the rack later this year, if I figure out a good way to integrate it into the system. The Xbox 360, Blu-ray player, and cable box all use HDMI to connect to the receiver; the problem of how to get HDMI to my living room, when I did not have HDMI wiring installed (HDMI didn't exist in 2000) and installing it would have been really expensive, was solved through the use of a clever device from Gefen called an HDMI-over-BNC converter. (One end of the device is visible above the shelf, the small blue box. There's a similar box behind the TV in the living room.)
Hope you like it!
