For Quicktime: do you have the problem when you start playing a movie, and then you want to manually skip to a different section of the movie by dragging the cursor, but you have to keep hitting the play button (because it keeps pausing the movie which is totally dumb)?

When I open a movie.

I sure would like to know what everybody's idea of a "clean install" is? This is not a hypothetical question, I'm really asking. I have a Macbook Pro, a Macbook and an iMac 24". I did a true clean install which involved booting up to the install screen and choosing Disk Utility and fully erasing the hard drives and then proceed with the full install of SL right down the desktop, then I manually installed all my apps back. Not a hitch, not a problem, not a bug on either of my installs. Everything is working perfectly and my animations of Spaces and Dashboard are silky smooth and no problems with Flash.

Aside from the haxies that shouldn't work until the developers update these I think most people that are saying that they are doing a "clean install" are either erasing the hard drive through Disk Utility and then restoring from a Time Machine backup which isn't a clean install. All that does is bring back the baggage from your old Leopard install.

If anyone is doing the upgrade only option and is having great results then they didn't have any baggage from their old Leopard install to corrupt SL. I highly recommend to just do a full erase and install to the desktop and then manually install your major apps and forget these haxies until the developers have updated them for SL.

Address Book and Mail locking up!

Upgraded to snow leopard and now address book and mail are hanging up and sometimes crash all together. I thought the problem was because I installed as an upgrade so when things went bad I re-installed clean and zeroed out the drive first. Still having problems but mail is working a little better. (doesn't hang up as long) I took the machine to Apple store and they said they have seen a few with this issue and it has been elevated to engineering level at Apple for review. If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears. I'm thinking about going back to Leopard until this is fixed. Everything else seems to be working just fine. BTW, I'm having the same issue with Entourage. it seems to be a sync issue because that the error message I get from Entourage.

quick look not fully working

One annoying SL bug that I've come across is thumbnails not loading and quicklook not working for some images, usually jpegs from the net…does this have anything to do with the color profile change?

iChat also constantly tells me someone has logged in, when in fact that haven't gone offline at all.

Only other problems I'm noticing is my net connection has slowed down considerably at time, than gone right back up.

Yeah that's annoying- you're playing a video and try to skip forward and have to press play again!

Might give a complete erase and manual install a try, I dunno

Same thing happens to me. Doesn't seem like a specific user bug. Either they messed up for everyone or this is how Apple wanted it.

The issue I'm having is with Preview:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/777287/

Essentially, this is what I wrote in the post:
I opened a PDF to crop some parts of the file and there are two big issues:
1. I cannot crop multiple pages anymore. There just isn't that option in Inspector or anywhere else. I can only crop one page at a time.
2. Not only can I not crop more than one page at a time, but cropping doesn't actually delete the date. I can go to "View | PDF Display | Crop Box" and see what I just cropped!

Is there anything I can do about this?

And he spends that time fixing the problems his time saving cost him?

My Father taught me long ago, "do it right the first time".

Which is why I always, ALWAYS, do a clean install. None of that archive or migrate crap. Back up any info, clean install, and manually put the backed up files back. This saves a lot of headache in the long run.

I'm more than willing to spend an extra hour or two of extra manual installation rather than "upgrade" or "archive and install" and spending countless hours of problem solving/compatibility issues.

Do things right the first time.

I'm glad someone else gets it. People are so lazy. I can understand if it's grandma and upgrading to a new OS is a huge deal, but if anyone considers themselves a techie at all then they'd do a true clean install.

Experienced a couple app crashes but nothing major and hasn't happened again. The only thing I find that is reproducible is a UI glitch in the menu bar when using my UPS.

The first image shows what it looks like with Magsafe and UPS plugged in. Second image is just the UPS. Third is what it looks like after unplugging the UPS.

In order for it to return to normal, I need to use Activity Monitor to quit SystemUIServer.

Dock Sorting

When I navigate to a nested folder within a folder in the dock, my "sort by" preferences are not retained.

I hate this.

I have a whitebook and I find that if I click in the time bar or click and drag using the mouse button and not by tapping the trackpad then it doesn't pause on resuming, but when I tap the trackpad then it does. Maybe it is being overly sensitive. I don't think an erase and install will do much as many people have noted this glitch.

Anyone having issues with spaces, I have mine setup

1 Safari
2 iTunes
3 iCal & Address Book

Every so often iCal/Address book open in whatever space I have active (doubled checked and they are set to space 3 only)

The only thing I have done, activated the feature to minimise an app behind the dock icon and tried this out on iCal/Address Book

I cant replicate this everytime, but this issues has happened 3 times in the last 30 mins, click in the dock for iCal and it opens over Safari, move iCal back to space 3 and it behaves itself for a while

This is ridiculous
Apple has what? Twenty different configurations to test and they even make them?. Windows has literally thousands of configurations from dozens of brands in the wold. They have to test it both in Macs and PCs, intel and AMD, all different types of processors, many more different types of GPUs than Apple, etc. Still it turns out that SL has more flaws apparently than the RC from Windows 7 (not even released, but I installed it and works flawlessly except for the lack of some drivers, but again it has not been released yet).
I am not a PC troll. I am writing from a MBP and my copy of SL is in the mail right now, but give me a break Apple: don't treat your first buyers as last beta testers. You're supposed to give us better value for our money.

Did the exact same thing with my iMac, everything is working perfectly. Ended up just doing an upgrade on my MacBook Pro, and even that is working totally flawlessly. In both cases, like with you, it's just a couple third party things that aren't fully working, but there's definitely bound to be updates. I think the people with the problems are just part of an unlucky group.

When using my MBP with the ACD the MBP display keeps switching to what I think is Adobe RGB, the setting for the ACD. The colors are hued blue and the screensaver animation leaves a blue "wash" behind as it moves. It seems to happen when the screensaver starts or after waking up. If I open the display preferences and choose color LCD it switches right back.

when showing battery as percentage - it says 'not charging' vs giving actual % when unplugged - that's useless.

Not being an Apple apologist by any means, but it's not just a case of the few hardware set-ups Apple has to deal with, it's the software side too. Whole foundations of the OS have been re-written and there's the 32/64-bit side too.

There are some horror stories about people's experiences installing SL, but you'll probably find someone out there who's had a nightmare with Win7 and SL went perfectly! :p

Having said that I do wonder why Apple wanted SL out the door so quickly. You do have to take the threads on here and elsewhere with a pinch of salt because you only hear of things when they go wrong. However I do wonder if it was quite ready to be given to us drooling masses. There'll always be teething troubles with a new OS- no way round that but SL does seem to have a few more rough edges than you'd think. Especially when the whole marketing spiel for it was reliability and a smoother experience.

Like I said, not being a defensive fanboy or apologist for Apple but I don't think SL's THAT bad overall :)

yeah ive seen/heard some awful windows 7 horror stories. I knew by installing SL on the first wave that i would run into issues, but i also bought my MB the day they came out....so ill just keep taking risks i guess.

had a strange one where sys pref would crash when I opened the desktop/screansaver pane. that was thankfully cleared up by the latest release of leopard.

I am still awaiting the arrival of SL which I thought would be hear by now? (ordered 27 aug) and looking forward to picking it apart!:D:apple:

I've upgraded my MBA and unibody 15 inch MBP to Snow Leopard, and they are both having the exact same problem. Wifi connectivity to the internet breaks about every 10 minutes, and will not return unless I go through the "Network Diagnostics" problem solver from Safari. And it's not the router, because while both Macs will be saying there's no connection to the internet, all the other Windows machines connected to the same router can browse the internet just fine. I've tried all fixes listed on here for any problem similar to this, but nothings fixed it so far. It's really very annoying.

Same problem here.... I am considering reverting back to Leopard.
Very, very annoying and frustrating

Anyone else having problems with random restarts? This just happens out of nowhere really, I'll be working on a few things when all of a sudden, blue screen then log in window. The thing that's so frustrating (well, you know, besides everything shutting down and resetting outta nowhere) is that this happens seemingly randomly. I've had different programs running under different loads and there seems to be no pattern to the madness. Had no problems with this under Tiger and Leopard, this has just been happening the past couple days after installing SL.

Any ideas on this? Hoping for the best, otherwise I'm on the path to going back to Leopard in a hurry.

Flash sucks. What else is new? This was browsing the Drudgereport, too. A few simple ads on that page and look what happens.

Plugged in a second monitor and the screen showed up *inside* of my main screen. It was very weird.

Also, I can barely play WoW at all. When the HD is accessed the entire machine hangs, I lose internet connection and basically can't do anything.

I've also had the system prefs app crash on me a few times when changing preferences.

I don't want to revert back to Leopard but I might just have to. This OS is riddled with bugs it seems.
