If the threads are comparing non iOS devices to the iPhone then it should absolutely be in this forum. You don't think Android forums and Blackberry forums have threads comparing those devices to iPhones!? Stop being ridiculous and so sensitive. It's a mobile device and these forums are here to discuss the iPhone as well as how the iPhone compares to competitors in the market.

Definitely should have a subforum for Android, Windows 7 comparison flamewars so that others don't have to read the troll trash cluttering up the regular iPhone forum...

I don't think a separate forum is a good idea. This is a Mac forum after all. But to ban anyone from posting anything about other phones is not such a good idea either so for me, I'm happy to just leave it as it is.

I don't think a separate forum is a good idea.

You forgot to give a single reason why.

Theres a huge benefit of having a "Android/Windows7 is better than iOS!!!" sub-forum. Keeps the flamewars out of the main forum. Also keeps the main forum clutter free from troll trash.

If you think sub-forums are bad why not just merge all the accessory, hacks forum into one and have a cluttered mess?

People should be allowed to express their viewpoint. If someone hates iOS and loves Android let them post freely all they want.

Stop censorship.

People in this forum are so biased!

What do you have against free speech and different opinion. If someone does not agree with you and prefers Android he is imediately labeled a troll and banned.

Just the trolls. You can have an opinion. Just follow the forum rules and you'll be fine.
It's not censorship, it's not violating freedom of speech. It's a private website choosing what they want to be about.

Agreed, but please note that creating a dedicated forum for iPhone vs other phone comparisons isn't censorship.

If someone hates iOS, why would they be here in the first place? When someone comes to the iPhone section for the sole purpose of trolling and posting garbage, they should be banned. No question about it.

It's like this in ANY forum on ANY site. If you're argumentative, and use phrases like "Suck, Crap, etc.", then you're going to get slammed. Go to an Android forum, and say how awesome your iDevice is, or WM7 device is, and you'll get slammed as well...

Agreed. It's not censorship. This is a privately hosted board, and they can set rules. If it's run by the government, then there's an argument for censorship...

I say if people want to talk about non iPhones on MacRumors that's fine with me just give them their own section. Theres tons of people who have Macs, iPods and iPad no need for them to have to leave. Maybe some of them can't get an iPhone on their carrier.

There are separate sections here for Macs, iPods and iPad. That's one of the good things about this forum. Instead of a mess, everything is separated into sections.

Even this iphone forum has its subsections for hacks, accessories, apps.

I originally voted for "not on Macrumors" but we definitely need a section on iphone "comparison". This way the mods can move all the nonsense "X phone vs iPhone" threads. This will keep the main forum clean for people that are interested in an iPhone forum and not a multi-platform or Android one. And at the same time will make the trolldroids happy with their own place to bash.

Personally, I don't see any need for a seperate forum

There's a thread in the feedback showing how little non-iPhone threads there are, basically only 4%. Given the low volume it makes little sense to create a forum for just a handful for threads.

We don't need a separate forum. We have right, and that includes the right to post whatever I want in this forum. If we want to post about Windows on the Mac forum it is the right of free speech that allows it. So is posting about Android on this forum.

The censorship I talk about is those moderators deleting every post that is against their fanboy mentality. If it weren't for people like ImperialX, Kdarling , Andrew and me this forum would be crap, yet you censor us.

And stop calling everyone that does not agree with you a troll, its not polite.

By the way all of you ifanboys are bigots against Android.

Why did you quote me? Everything I said you agreed with me. You did say it better though.

No you don't. This is a privately run website and as such they determine what people can and can't say here. Perhaps you should study up on the issue of freedom of speech.

The Mods may get mad at this one

The mods should already have an "other smartphone" tab. They can't get mad when they post on the front page about android. How many times have they put android on the first page? Hell this website had the best coverage of Google IO on the internet(lol). on the front of the thing. They should have another part of the website. From where I sit everyone loves the argument.

I like to see comparisons but I get annoyed with people talking about how a certain phone is better without proof.

...

And there is a poll in this forum that says ~3/4 respondents do not want things to remain as they are.

I admit that the apparent spamming of this forum has abated given the action of the mods in removing some persistent trolls (to the mods: thank you, thank you, thank you! :)), but I still think adding a subsection would make it easier for everybody to access information they want to read.

Besides, having a dedicated forum for iPhone versus other phone comparisons might reduce some of the criticism of the iPhone community about being close-minded.

can't agree with you anymore! it's not a big deal about it.
we can discuess anything about the smart phones no matter it is iPhone or samsung.

As many members in this thread have already said: This is a dedicated iPhone sub-forum in an Apple products dedicated forum. It is intended to talk about iPhone exclusively and that is what people expect.

This is not a general smartphone forum. For talking about smartphones there are forums like Howardforums and Brighthand.

And it is not being closed minded, it is following the forum rules. It's the same as if someone of one political preference goes into the other political party's chromite to talk about his candidate.

And as VulchR said, according to the pool only 24% of people agree with posting non iPhone stuff here. And I think all those one-day trolls have elevated that percent even higher than it should be.

Having a seperate forum is not going to change people's opinion of the iPhone community being close minded mostly because many of the people are.

My point is that so few threads makes little sense for the mods/admins to create a forum and manage it. Secondly so few threads mean that there's little critical mass for that forum to continue. It will whither as most people be here.

The handful of android threads here doesn't necessitate the need to create a new forum imo
