And you moderators should consider the results of this pool as most users don't want Android discussion on the main iphone forum.

IMO Polls on forums show what the people who participate in the poll think, not what the membership in general thinks. I'm not saying a poll should be ignored - and I think they're often good points of departure for discussion in a thread. I'm just saying that polls here are not on the level of Gallup polls in regard to how well they represent the wishes of the entire membership.

Finally a moderator with a brain. Love you dude. It's nice to see a moderator here that is not another ifanboy...

Thanks, but I'm fairly certain that the other mods aren't "fanboys" in any sort of negative sense. And I can assure you that we do all have brains. :D

...

Even the moderators here have expressed they use Android instead of iPhone. ..

Naaahhhh...I think it's fair to say that at least ONE moderator (= me) uses Android. I don't know for sure, but I'm willing to bet that at least some of the others have iPhones. ;) And besides, the kind of phones we happen to have don't have any bearing on how the site here is run, just so that's said.

You've gotta keep in mind that mods are members, too. I've been posting in this thread because I'm interested in the subject and want to share my own thoughts, not because I'm a moderator.

It might be the case that the poll is not representative, but we're nearly at 200 votes now and 3/4ths want change.

Let me put it another way - what evidence would the mods/management of MR accept that a proposal is popular or unpopular with MR members? I suppose changes in the number of active members might be one source of evidence, but I'd hate to see people having to vote with their feet....

MacRumors has half a million registered members and only 150 of them have said they want to change. It's hardly a overwhelming majority. :D

Agreed. So how would you know what the wishes of the majority were? If the answer is you can't, then you have to guess. A poll with 200 responses might be a good basis for guessing....

or maybe not.... :)

Well said.
You wont see me at an android forum trying to tell them that the iphone is better and that their phones suck. And if they dont agree or see my point they're all fanboys and call them names or insult them.
Get that crap out of here. Make a forum section for that kind of discussion about other phones or OS's etc...
Maybe it will keep the trolls in check and pack them all in one place:D

Could not say it better myself.

Over half a million people are registered... Correct, but that really means nothing. How many of those accounts are now inactive and or banned? I'll say more than half. The forum averages 1000 active user accounts (Not including guests, who can't vote on polls)

Now how many of those people visit the iPhone section? Maybe half of that?

So with that being said, I could see 200 votes being a good consensus for the rest of the members. You also have to remember, the majority of those "Android posts belong in the iPhone section" votes are from trolls that are now banned.

It's pretty clear that a sub-section for competitor phones is needed.

I don't see the big deal of having a thread comparing "X android phone VS iphone" as long as its not a trolling post.

Some people (myself included) go back and forth often between iphone and android (or other OS's) and getting CONSTRUCTIVE feedback from a number of different sources (i'm also a member of various android forums) to help make an educated decision is very helpful.

I will point out that android forums generally seem to be more welcoming to posts comparing android VS other os's...and people on those forums are much quicker to help rather then blast someone for being a fandroid or what not. Don't feed the trolls and recognize that some of us (myself included) aren't here to start a fight...we just want various opinions BEFORE we drop serious cash on a new smartphone.

But for what its worth...if it makes the majority of people feel better I wouldn't be against a general sub forum on this site where threads dealing with other smart phones VS the iphone are allowed. That way people who don't want to bother even seeing these posts don't ever have to and those of us who want to offer advice and experience still have a way to do so without being labelled a troll or some variant of a fanboy. :)

There are too many apple fanbois here. Definitely we need a place to post realistic information on other platforms without the Apple fanboys censoring everything.

FUnny i thought there were too many Fandroids here. If you're uncomfortable go to XDA

If you have something constructive to post about an Android phone, do so. These Android-iOS battles are childish.

Ridiculous. Every post about Android phones in this forum has been posted to compare with iPhones. So you're saying you should never compare the iPhone to any competitors and just blindly buy whatever Apple pushes out? Real smart advice right there.

Let me tell you, OP. The only reason why there are this many posts about a certain Samsung smartphone in the iPhone forums is because it is truly a beautiful handset that destroys the iPhone 4. All the posters here with a SGS2 are switchers from iPhones, and that's why we were part of this forums in the first place. It makes no sense that we shouldn't be allowed to post about our switching process since we've been iPhone users for so long

Never before has there been such a general consensus between every online reviewer, critic and user about what the ultimate smartphone is. The SGS2 is that handset right now and it is only natural that there will be threads about it.

I think it's okay to maybe compare a new iPhone to a new Android phone that are coming out around the same time (future release, for example). However, I am going to throw my own feces at the wall if I see another thread comparing the iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S(2).
