Putting threads that go south in a separate forum is a system that many forums use (they call it a boneyard or graveyard).

The problem with implementing that kind of system on this forum is that it would actually increase the amount of work the mods have to do (and they know this).

Why? Go ahead check of the threads that a lot of you have problems with... I think you will notice that it is usually the Apple fans with most of the flames and troll posts on those threads. If the mods here had to start moving them en masse then the same fans would start intentionally flaming/trolling threads they didn't like *and also* PM'ing mods to "move this thread into the right forum because it mentions android".

I doubt that they want to deal with that kind of headache.

This is what I suggest if you see a thread that you don't like:
DON'T REPLY

With the frequency of posts on this board it will be off the front page in half a day or less.

As many members in this thread have already said: This is a dedicated iPhone sub-forum in an Apple products dedicated forum. It is intended to talk about iPhone exclusively and that is what people expect.

This is not a general smartphone forum. For talking about smartphones there are forums like Howardforums and Brighthand.

And it is not being closed minded, it is following the forum rules...

I'd just like to point out that there's nothing in the forum rules prohibiting discussing competitors' products here. ;)

But there is against trolling and that is what most Android users have been doing here. And I should have written etiquette instead of rules...

And you moderators should consider the results of this pool as most users don't want Android discussion on the main iphone forum.

Yes, trolling is against the rules, so spend the energy reporting those posts - regardless of whether they're made by a member who prefers Android or not.

That's not true. I will soon have an SGS2 (and am coming from an HTC), but I've never had an iPhone. I'm probably not the only forum member who has been using Apple products for years, but went from an older cell phone type directly to Android.

I agree with InsanelyApple here; for me, the answer is yes. I consider myself a bona fide member, having been around since 2004, and I am definitely interested. That doesn't mean I'm not equally interested in iPhone discussions - even though I don't have one.

Finally a moderator with a brain. Love you dude. It's nice to see a moderator here that is not another ifanboy.

This forum should have more Android discussion and less of the ifanboys posting their crap.

Wellcome to Android, you should join us at androidforums too.

Even the moderators agree that this forum should be free for all discussion you want.

Stop trolling iOS users. You lost :D

Really? You really needed to post twice in a row? As if your first post wasn't 'useful' enough?

Stop trying to start this Android VS Apple garbage... No one cares.

A lot of people care. You see many people here are ex-iPhone users that have upgraded to Android.

Even the moderators here have expressed they use Android instead of iPhone. So get over it.

Android is here to stay, and we can post information on it whenever we want.

Now, I know I shouldn't be posting this, as I'm just feeding the troll but I need to ask...

What is your purpose here? You create an account for the sole purpose of bashing the iPhone? Don't you have better things to do with your time? You must be really young, as I can't picture an adult doing this...

I already expressed my Ideas early but given the fact that they got lost in the sea of posts here they are rephrased:

Posting About other OS here is ok, but keep in mind this is a dedicated iphone forum intended for iphone discussion. The forum is separated into many subsections so people can read only what they are interested in.

We definitely need a section on iphone "comparison". This way the mods can move all the Android related threads. This will keep the main forum clean for people that are interested in an iPhone forum and not a multi-platform or Android one. And at the same time will make the Android users happy with their own place to discuss.

And by the way, I report trolls does not matter what is their OS of choice. It is just that here it seems more than 90% of the spam comes from Android users. After all this is an iPhone forum...

Dude what you guys are proposing is this... so childish...
BAN COMPETITION!!!
I seriously thought the iphone section was smarter than this.
I guess the laptop section is way far ahead in thinking maturely than iphone owners.

Competition is perfectly fine.

What ISN'T fine is the completely ignorant and disrespectful posts that the current "new generation" has been posting, simply to rile up and piss off people.

This is a Mac-related forum. If you are so desperate to discuss Android, why on earth would you do it here? Do I venture to a Ford forum to discuss Volkswagens? Do I look for Apple support on a Microsoft board?

No.

The "new gen" posters all believe they have to "save" people from Apple. The thing you don't understand is that we don't need or want to be "saved" - we're happy with what we have. I don't give two craps if you think what you have is better. If I'm happy with what I have, how in hell does that affect you?

I'm sorry, but grow up. Stop worrying so much about other people and go back to playing "my stuff is better than yours" on some other boards.

I guess the laptop section is way far ahead in thinking maturely than iphone owners.

That's a pretty bold statement. I'd stick to worrying about yourself, as you know nothing about myself, and others who partake in the iPhone forum.

I find it hypocritical when an iPhone owner replies to one of these (many) Android threads and is labelled a fanboy by people who can't see that they're nothing better.

If people want to discuss Android phones I don't see why they don't go to an Android forum where they'll get other like minded people replying.

Well said.
You wont see me at an android forum trying to tell them that the iphone is better and that their phones suck. And if they dont agree or see my point they're all fanboys and call them names or insult them.
Get that crap out of here. Make a forum section for that kind of discussion about other phones or OS's etc...
Maybe it will keep the trolls in check and pack them all in one place:D

I asked this in the thread in question but What are your additional thoughts at threads like this: https://forums.macrumors.com/wap/GetThread.php?t=1155630&bat=

Are you all averse to any kind of Android news/discussion or is it ok for people to bring up negative articles against competitors products?

Are we simply thinking along the lines that you don't want to read positive things about the competition but do want to read the negative aspects of it?

To be honest, I rather see none. (Or at least a different section for competitor phones) If I wanted to see Android news, I would of joined an Android forum. I do keep up to date on all their phones via YouTube reviews (I.E phonedog and technobuffalo) so I don't need people posting why an Android phone is better than the iPhone. It's all personal opinion and just because someone may think their phone is better (For them of course) it may not fit another's needs. I strictly come to the iPhone section for iPhone news. Strange how that works... Yet lately it's becoming more of an Android section, or better yet, a bash the iPhone owners section.

Agreed. This place is becoming androidrumors, if I wanted to find out all about android I would join an android forum.

There is a reason we are here and reading about android ain't one. ;)

+1 Its getting old coming to Macrumors every day and seeing Android this, android that. If I wanted to read about Android I'd go to Googles dev page or an Android forum.

The problem is anytime someone brings up the fact that the iPhone forum is becoming the Android forum they get labeled a fanboy.

Another problem is the constant trolling that goes on regarding Android posts that are masqueraded as "technology discussions". I think it would be great to lump these alternate OS "technology discussions" into their own forum so Macrumors can remain Macrumors.

Not to mention this will make everyone happy since the anti-apple people can stay in that forum, and the people who come to Mac rumors for the Apple information don't have to weed through a hundred troll threads first.

Where are these hundred troll threads you have to wade through? Was that an exaggeration?
There are plenty of discussions on the main iPhone page talking about the phone/iOS exclusively.

Troll threads are few and far between, troll posters on the other hand can be annoying. Those posters should be reported.

There all deleted, or moved to the wasteland where they belong.

That means the moderation team are doing their job and the users play their part by reporting threads. The system works! ;)

(I still think a separate section with mature discussion would be a good thing either way tho)

I would like to see one also. I tend to like to read up on some competition once and a while. And when I say read up, I mean actually read about different devices (Like you said - mature discussion) and not see "Android is better than Apple" spammed throughout the section.
