Have to disagree with ya there. You promote what you have until it changes OFFICIALLY. The minute you stop promoting or advertising your product (especially when it comes to Apple), people stop buying, anticipating the next big thing, and sales fall. Just an opinion.

Which is why one of Mr. Jobs' few bonehead moves was to pre-announce 3 GHz G5's months before the 2 GHz models even shipped.

New PBs tomorrow.....how amazing that would be !!!
But I somehow think they will first update PMs und then PBs, so maybe next week new PMs and early April new PBs?!

That's a fair point. There comes a time when it's the price point that matters. With those refurb stocks, we are (very) close.

Excellent point! Most of those sytems are only a few months old, and they're still quite good. If enough panic-sellers bring the refurb prices down low enough, you'll be able to get a much better deal on a 4-month-old G5 than on a 10% faster new one.

Sort of like what happened when all the car makers offered 0% financing here in the states - very good used cars became very cheap because there were so many of them.

I completely agree. That announcement built up a lot of expectation that Apple could compete in the hardware field again -- that maybe working with IBM would change things.

I guarantee you that whatever is announced in the next few weeks, there will be a lot of disappointed people who thought something "better", whatever that is, would be coming. The only way Apple could blow us away would be to announce 3.0GHz G5s in the next few weeks -- and that ain't gonna happen folks.

Never fret ... I personally guarantee new Powerbooks in 2004.

... maybe ... :D

My guess is new PBs tomorrow, PMs next Tuesday.

BTW, the memory deal does not apply to PBs. So no problem there!

Well, lets hope. I haven't read a lot of rumors concerning PBs. If we see new ones tomorrow and they will still have the G4, right ? And that could mean another 6 month for G5PB to arrive.

And, of course, those dual-1.8's are still going to be competitive with whatever is announced. I know everyone is waiting for the rev B's and their improvements, but I gotta tell you, the current G5's kick some decent a__ as it is now. I love mine.

Exactly. There's no idea what the update is going to be, when that line's going to ship, or what the price point is going to be. If it's a straight-up replacement, then a dual 1.8 for $500 less than, say, a dual 2.2 is a significant savings without a lot of noticeable increase. Any dual G5 is going to feel snappier with OS and program updates rather than simply upping the chip a few notches.

I'd say if you're waiting for a mac but don't really need the extra power, those refurbs are the way to go. I'm eyeballing them myself (and my wallet would thank me ;D )

edited to add: and we got the new products already -- the new Xserves.

Sadly, the only way they could blow us away truly would be to announce something better than what they've already announced - i.e., over 3GHz. It's sad that even a 3GHz announcement would simply meet the current expectations of half of the members here ("when's the 3Ghz coming out?").

Of course, that said, even a 2.4+GHz announcement would be nice. But I'd rather they announce something you can buy relatively soon than, as they seem to be doing a lot of lately, announce something, then ship it months later. Who cares if they announce a dual 2.4 if you can't get it until June? It'll just make people who have to buy now upset and people who don't have to buy now sad that they have to wait another season.

Apple is great for "announcing" things. Shipping them is another story altogether.

However, that being said, may Apple and the Mac live forever. :p

It's after 10 EST -- pretty anti-climatic, isn't it? Another Tuesday and no new product announcements. is it possible Mac will announce an end to new product announcements? (unless they are iPods, of course)

If Apple does release new PBs tomorrow or within the next 3-4, they will (most likely) have G4s. You' re right about non-existent PB rumors but they're definitely in for an update any time soon.

Time to move on, I don't think Apple would wait until 9am PST.

True. They don't need the stores there to be open in order to announce that they're not shipping the new products until June. :)

On the bright side, perhaps they're trying to announce closer to the actual ship date, hence the delayed announcement which will just allow people to get their newly-announced systems shortly after they're announced, instead of spending another three months waiting, and then wondering what's going to be announced a week after they buy.

Or maybe the new products are so delayed that even Apple feels bad about announcing them this early.

Didn't really want a new G5 anyway. Was just "pretending" that I cared. LOL

I long for that *oomph* factor I get once in a while when Steve shows us a new or updated product.

I remember gasping when he announced: the cube, the new flat pannel iMac, the iPod, the original Powerbook and the G5 (although I was'nt thrilled by the grating)

Steve! Make me gasp! Where is the *oomph!*

edit: Added the iPod, forgot about that one. I was giggling like a schoolgirl when it was announced. I believed it it from the start.

I suppose there is always a MacWorld... :p ;)

Isn't MacWorld designed as an "announcements-only" forum? Products almost always seem to ship months after their announcements there, with the possible exception of a few software products.

Oh, come on. At the last one in January, don't forget that they announced the dual-2Ghz Xserves which, oh, um, never mind...

But at least the big star of the show was the mini, which shipped just a few months after..oh, yeah, guess you were right there, too...

But, really, you're forgetting last June, where they announced the 3GHz PowerMacs which will..start...shipping...um, yeah, I guess you're totally right.

Whippity Whoppity ROK

LOL LOL :p You do have a point there. And with Apple, we are always forced to wait, and wait, and wait some more.... It's hard to gauge the rumors sometimes, but I usually try to keep a balanced view of them. But like I said Macworld there is high chance of an announcement for some new Apple goodness even if we do have to wait 3months to a year for it to come out! LOL :D :)

Me loves being totally right (even when I'm totally wrong ... LOL)

I think I've just discovered how easy it is to burn up a full morning. :D

Yeah...and then there's the 30th, a whole week away, and all that time to fill, wondering if it'll be that day, what'll be announced, when it will ship, etc.

:)

8:47 Cupertino time and the store is still up. Guess the 23rd has officially come and gone with the solid announcement of single 2Ghz XServes shipping NOW. Yeah Baby!!

Guess I have seven more days to climb towards "regular" status. LOL
