That banner has been there for a few days already.

On the Danish Shop there is a banner reading "iPod Free Custom Laser Engraving - LAST DAYS"

Offer ends March 27th. Same goes for savings on memory in US shop...

No refurb though

I just had a look at what is being offered on the British and German refurb stores. As has been mentioned before, those store are open on Wednesdays only. Interestingly, they offer refurbished iBook, PowerBooks, iPods and displays. Could this mean that we'll see new iBooks, new PowerBooks and displays tomorrow? There must be a reason why the refurb store is open today, right?
That's been my train of thought, too.

something to think about:

We now know that the refurb stores in europe are open, when normally they aren't. So they want people to buy some more refurbs. That's no assumption, that's the way it works, that whole refurbs deal thing.

But why would they open the refurbs stores only a couple of hours before they launch new hardware today? I would do that a week in advance, so people have more time to find out about the refurbs... So my thoughts are more shifting to next tuesday.. no matter how hard I wanted it to be today..

but I may still be wrong, i'm no magician

I can see your point, but why would they open the stores today instead of tomorrow if updates happen next Tuesday?

Exactly!!

I don't think they have that much to sell on refurb. The Apple Store doesn't carry big inventories. The resellers do.

Did anybody notice we ask each other more questions than we can answer :D

I know one person that knows it all..let's go wake him..shall we?

9 am on the East Coast, 6 am in Cupertion, US store sill up. Nothing today, I fear. Perhaps new PBs tomorrow and new PM next Tuesday.

You know inventories of PM's at Ingram and others are low, but here is the main factor that I see: My inventory of PM G5's has been at 0 for WAY too long.
Clearly this is an indication that Rev. B's need to be release to increase inventory of G5's on my desk.

:D

LOL

I need a G5. For Halo. :p

not today, tomorrow...

in Europe it is 15h03, and Apple store are still up and will remain, BUT, the refurb store whish is normally open only on Wednesday, exceptionally is opened today Tuesday...
WHY??
because it is usually opened from 11h00 till midnight...
and if new products have to be introduced tomorrow, then of course the refurb store should be also closed....do you see what I mean...
new products tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!

Well something's definitely up. This weekend, the refurb store in the US was practically empty, except for some freshly added "G4 Powerbook" updates (the entire line with some extras to boot) on friday.

Now, practically the entire Apple line is available in refurb form, and for MUCH cheaper. With an education discount I can get a dual G5 1.8 standard for $2k.

Who cares about updates with prices this low? ;D

I don't see that coming. I guess the updates come next tuesday 30th.

I think that all the resellers read MacRumors and have started to panic, thinking that new G5's are just around the corner. The March 27th deadline has just fueled the panic. So this is all self-perpetuating.

In reality, MS just bought Apple and they're trying to get rid of all the extra stock before OS X is used only to run Xbox 2.

That's because we're all frantically selling our old, antiquidated 6-month-old G5's to get one of the new ones! :)

Seriously, though, it doesn't mean new ones are coming - it means people think new ones are coming. They might be right, who knows?

Well, every time what had updates the store would be open by 9am EST. Its past without update. I'll wait till tomorrow, if not, then I'll wait till next week.

BTW, lots of cool referbs are still up on the site. You can get a G4 iBook for $1000. :)

That's a fair point. There comes a time when it's the price point that matters. With those refurb stocks, we are (very) close.

And, of course, those dual-1.8's are still going to be competitive with whatever is announced. I know everyone is waiting for the rev B's and their improvements, but I gotta tell you, the current G5's kick some decent a__ as it is now. I love mine.

PS Anyone want to buy it cheap? ;)

I don't think it's gonna happen today. The apple site still promotes the current G5 models. It seems unlikely to me that they would still be promoting the old machines on the same day they gonna introduce the new ones. I think before we will see the Rev B's the apple site will first promote something different for at least a few days before the introduction and promotion of the new machines.

T-minus 2:30 and counting...

We should find out by noon whether today is the day.

Anybody else notice that there weren't any rumors concerning Apple Store inventory, i.e. Apple Store employees were asked to stick around after closing for a "meeting" or to account for "inventory"?

Have to disagree with ya there. You promote what you have until it changes OFFICIALLY. The minute you stop promoting or advertising your product (especially when it comes to Apple), people stop buying, anticipating the next big thing, and sales fall. Just an opinion.

It's not that unlikely. Like I said before, iBooks G4 were released on a Wednesday (October 22). So there is no reason why Apple wouldn't do it again. My guess is new PBs tomorrow, PMs next Tuesday.

BTW, the memory deal does not apply to PBs. So no problem there!

You guys need to pay attention to the site. The ad on the home page describes the G5 in a generic sense. It doesn't say anything about rev A, 2.0Ghz, etc. This ad could just as easily describe a 1.6 Ghz machine as a 3.0 Ghz one.
