Oh, smart connector on the back... So charging will look familiar I guess ...

magic_mouse_2_charging.jpg
Uh would you prefer it to be on the screen side? And anything that uses the smart connector will be in a case so it really will not matter if its on the back or the side.

Do you seriously believe that a smartphone with a camera lens of this size will ever be able to match the picture quality of a DSLR?! (in the hands of a professional photographer who knows how to use it)
Match and surpass. DSLRs are like PCs, we live in a Post-DSLR-World. Only truck drivers will keep using these huge unpractical monsters.
It's amazing how renders never do justice to iPhones. Then we put them side by side with the competition, and it is pretty clear that the superior finish and quality is always there.
There is no competition, still the iPhone 6 renderings looked better than the real thing. The iPhone 4 however looked better in person.
If the image quality of the phone is amazing, and that the hump is the ONLY way to get that, then all is forgiven. Capabilities trump aesthetics.
Nothing trumps aesthetics. Take the antenna bands, they are still needed, but now they are aesthetically pleasing. Even a protruding camera can be a good or a bad design, centered or off-center.

So this means another two years with my iPhone 5 ... Unless they don't screw the SE up...

Well, I'd expected it on the bottom... But having both lightning and smart connector, it'll make sense at the back I guess...

But why? The iPad Pro has it on the bottom (when in landscape) because it's placed on something else like a keyboard. That wouldn't happen with the iPhone the smart connector would be built directly into a cases so I don't think placement would really matter.

You're right...

Truck drivers? I think you mean professional photographers, filmmakers, photo enthusiasts, etc. ;) There's still going to be a market for the bigger (DSLR / mirrorless / m43) cameras and all the amazing lenses you can put on them for a very long time.

Man that looks TERRIBLE with the camera protruding. Why can't Apple just make the device a bit thicker, adding more battery life, and keeping the camera flush? THAT IS WHAT WE WANT.

The Smart Connector is for a batterycase, Apple'll sell separately, without blocking the lightning Port on the iPhone and without adding additional length to the Phone. So you can listen to music using the Lightning Port while charging.

And here's another one https://www.google.co.uk/amp/applei...al-cameras-no-home-button/amp/?client=safari#

These rumours are coming in thick and fast, the pictures in this one say no headphone jack, stereo speakers and no home button.
Personally I think there fake!

It wouldn't be hard to imagine NO HOME BUTTON - Apple has 3D Touch - simply implement that where the home button use to be and that settles the problem. I don't know about the touchID, however. Where would that go?

I just love how QUICK users here are to attack others. Just because YOU like it doesn't mean I DO. So if I don't like it then I'm close-minded? I get it we will all just do what ever you like from now on.

There's nothing wrong liking it or not (me personally, I'm indifferent right now). That's not what makes you closed-minded.

However, you said you don't THINK you want it and immediately dismiss it without giving it a fair chance. If you don't think you want something, give it chance to see how it will perform, then pass judgment on whether you want it or not.

Passing judgment without trying it yourself, whether it will come to pass or just remain a rumor, that is what makes you close-minded.

as far as I'm aware, the touch ID mechanism isn't a scanner but a tiny 'camera', so as long as the light can make it through material to the surface of your fingerprint, it can remain where it is in the bezel and not have any aesthetic features at all if desired.

Yes, I do. Just look at how far mobile cameras have come in the past 10 years. The 4K video on the 6S Plus in good daylight conditions already rivals the 4K quality of many Pro DSLRs.

The bigger cameras aren't going anywhere, but mobile cams are easily the best selling and most used cameras on the market now, and they're going to keep getting better.

I understand that the best camera is always the one you have with you and that smartphone cameras with their great quality have replaced a separate dedicated camera for probably 99% of "normal" people. However I was referring to the original claim/hope that the new miniature-sized smartphone dual lenses may match the quality of a DSLR and, as somebody else already pointed out, this simply isn't possible because of physics, no matter how much technology evolves.

This is just ignorant as you can possibly get. It's not just a matter of size but it's the matter of physics and optics.

I think unpractical stands for just shoot and share on other tiny phone screens, just as 99,5% of smartphones' pictures are all about.
Image quality standards took a dive to "bare enough" depths a long time ago, at least for the great majority of users.

Honestly, that's the absolute best way to have two cameras that aren't the same on a phone if you want it to look decent.

Even the current 5, 5s, 6 and 6s don't have well-aligned cameras. The distance from the side of the phone to the circle of the camera is greater than from the top to the camera, which is how it's been since the 4S.

Based on that earlier 3D model leak, they are lining the camera up better like the 4S or iPod Touch because they antennas are better.

Which is what you all wanted. You wanted them to improve the antenna bands. They did.

"Still ugly!!!"

"Apple would never put a dark pill shaped area on the top-left corner!!!!!!"
