So a cross between an S8 and a chrome pixel. I hope not...... to me it looks like a HTC phone. And what is putting me off the most about the S8 and pixel is the touchid on the back. If apple move it to the rear, it will be another reason why the 6S is the last iPhone that has got it right. The SE just get better with each rumour. Actual value for money and all the functionality to form a user friendly phone

Putting it on the back renders most useful cases useless, does it not? Also, I enjoy using a magnetic mounting method for my handsfree stuff in my car. Right now, I can touch the front ID button and easily unlock if needed. Putting it in the back would involve extra time to search for it. Safety hazard and such, no? This is a terrible idea. It's not a natural location for a finger when you're holding the finger which goes against the practical approach Apple tries to take.

I would not be able to use a wallet case that keeps a credit card in the back. I've been using such cases for ten years. I certainly will not buy under any circumstance.

You know, sometimes I wonder if any of the people here have actually used a phone with a fingerprint sensor on the back. Most phones (not the Galaxy S8) place the sensor exactly where your index finger would lay if you were holding the phone. I don't see what's so hard about that.
Are you for real???
Read my post again. I know what you are saying. Didn't you read I was referring to people with special needs?

Either Apple can make something similar to the S7 Edge, except with iOS. Or they can make something like the LG G6, only with iOS instead. The current render is an eye sore.

@Ries. What evidence does this support? Nothing. This isn't even a render. And the first picture you posted by @LordQ (Formerly CarlosGQ) is a blueprint with schematic indications of legitimate hardware construction for production. This concept drawing will not happen in terms of the Touch ID placement.
Reminds me of the earliest iPhone 7 leaks where everything turned out to be right except the purported smart connector for the Plus.

Anyway chill guys, it's just a phone, Apple is just a company...

I think you're missing the point Carlos. The schematics that you posted earlier in this thread was an actual digital blueprint versus a CAD rendering, which actually originated from Foxconn. They are two different things. It could be a concept that was drawn up by anyone. ASide from the chassis of the iPhone that could be correct on this CAD photo, there is no way Apple is placing the touch ID on the back of the iPhone. If you believe that, then you don't have an understanding of Apple's foundation when implementing hardware.

A user on Weibo has shared an image of what appears to be a manufacturing-related design drawing of Apple's rumored 5.8-inch iPhone with an OLED display, which is tentatively named the iPhone 8 or iPhone X.

iphone-8-schematic.jpg

The drawing, which surfaced on /LEAKS earlier today, appears to be on a computer belonging to an Apple manufacturing partner such as Foxconn. It's unclear when the photo was taken, or if it's authentic, so treat this rumor with some caution until actual parts start to leak from the supply chain.

The drawing appears to be from the EVT, or Engineering Verification Testing, stage. In other words, this could be one of over ten iPhone prototypes that Apple has supposedly been testing this year, and the iPhone that ultimately enters mass production later this year might have an entirely different design.

The drawing shows an iPhone with a larger display that takes up nearly the entire front of the smartphone, as widely rumored. However, while many sources suggest the display will resemble the Galaxy S8 with only top and bottom bezels, the drawing shows very slim bezels along the left and right edges as well.

On the rear of the iPhone, the drawing shows a vertically aligned dual camera system, which has been rumored only once before by Japanese website Mac Otakara in December. Touch ID has also been relocated to the rear shell, in line with multiple reports claiming the iPhone 8 won't have a Home button on the front.

It has been more frequently rumored that Apple will integrate Touch ID underneath the iPhone 8's display glass, but Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri recently said that Apple is facing yield issues with an under-display solution. If it cannot resolve those issues, he said Touch ID on the rear is one possibility.

The drawing depicts an iPhone 8 measuring 149.5mm tall and 72.5mm wide, compared to the iPhone 7's 138.3mm length and 67.1mm width, so the iPhone 8 would be slightly larger than a 4.7-inch iPhone as expected. It's depth is 8.6mm, compared to the iPhone 7 at 7.1mm, possibly due to a rumored glass and stainless steel frame.

If accurate, the iPhone 8 would be approaching the thickness of an iPhone 4, which also had a glass and stainless steel design.

Using the Pythagorean theorem, we calculated that the iPhone 8 would have an overall footprint of about 6.5 inches on the diagonal, compared to around 6 inches for iPhone 7 and around 6.9 inches for iPhone 7 Plus. In other words, the iPhone 8 would be smaller than an iPhone 7 Plus, yet with an even bigger display.

The sides of the iPhone include the usual volume toggles, mute switch, lock button, SIM card tray, Lightning connector, speaker grille, and what is likely a second faux speaker grille. In line with the iPhone 7, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, suggesting that the legacy port won't be making a surprise comeback.

Chinese social network Weibo has been the source of numerous part leaks and Apple-related rumors in the past, but as is usually the case with leaks this far from launch, the iPhone depicted in today's image could end up being much different from the one that debuts later this year.

As a point of emphasis, the iPhone drawing pictured above is largely inconsistent with rumors and expectations from Apple analysts that we've heard. A vertical-aligned camera and Touch ID on the back of the iPhone in particular are largely one-off rumors that have not been substantiated by multiple sources.

However, this design cannot be entirely ruled out. As mentioned, Apple prototypes several different iPhones at once, and it will ultimately proceed with a model that is best suited for manufacturing at scale. Over the coming weeks and months, we should begin to see a clearer picture of which design Apple went with.

Around this time three years ago, a similar design drawing and a few real-life photos of a device that ended up being the iPhone 6 surfaced from within Foxconn, so these types of leaks are sometimes credible.

Yes, and that is why you bother to say this on an apple rumor fan site...

Fugly..... From what I've read here and other places, I'm inclined to let the 8,Pro, X (whatever) pass me by this time and wait for it to mature in future versions (and the cost to come down on the "new" tech), I think it is going to have many issues with all the new technology (to Apple) that they are trying to cram into this device. The Galaxy 8 is one fine looking device but it's an Android and I do not care for Android OS, not that it is bad I just thinks it's KLUDGE. Looks like it will be the 7S+ for me.

This looks seriously ugly. I am pretty sure it's legit.
A 7S will do me just fine, thank you very much.

bought a 7 + last month, and seeing this makes me very happy as I won't be jealous when the 7s and 8 are coming out :D

fingerprint on the back? haha eew...

I didn't think of TouchID on the back while docked in the car. That would totally make the phone unusable in the car.

That is a good point.

If one has bluetooth in their car, Android can automatically unlock when connected to the car's system. So for those people, it's not much of an issue. Everyone else is screwed, though.

I'm still on the 6. I was planning to upgrade to this phone, but not with Touch ID on the back.

This is terrible.

There is no way this is real. That design is ****ing hideous!

We are all expecting touch id to work under the glass/OLED panel (or somehow embedded into it?), but does anyone have any examples of this type of technology demonstrated anywhere?

If any one can mass produce this technology that will be Apple.
I hope Apple will make this happen.
This will be the greatest Innovation in last 3 years.

Yes, and that is why you bother to say this on an apple rumor fan site...
I am an Apple fanboy as much as the next guy, I just don't idolize people or stuff. Trivial things like a phone design don't have a meaningful impact in my daily life.

This looks like something Tim Cook would approve. The iPhone 5 was the last iPhone design Steve was personally involved in. Even today it is the gold standard in smartphone design.

I agree totally. Steve jobs on why Apple was not making larger screen iphones.
" devices are supposed to get smaller, not bigger"

Steve never would have made two iphones with different specs. Let alone one as large as the iphone plus. You can have a bigger screen and a sane sized phone. I see no reason why the iphone plus exists, let alone have better specs. Tim Cook has ruined Apple.

Why a 5'8 screen? Why not 5.5 and keep the size like the 4.7 inch iphone. A device you can use one handed while still having a large screen. They touted the one hand user ability since before the original iphone was released. They had tested 4 sized screens with the original prototypes.

So if you want a decent sized device and want the latest iphone you are out of luck? Wow.

How they are treating their desktop users should tell you everything you need to know. Check out the latest reviews. Scored sixth in laptopmag annual rankings. Lets abuse our base, forget about useability and function and ride the Samsung train to profitability.

Like watching a sinking ship.

If iPhones start to look like this, I'm switching to Android. I hate Android, but I hate this design more. Someone better shoot the designer, and Tim Crook while they are at it.

Hmmm, it looks an awful lot like the S8 which is now the Android flagship.
