It's not "for what it does". The issue is that it sells. If consumers would refuse to buy the 16Gb version, Apple would not make them anymore. Instead, so many of us buy the 16Gb version that Apple is motivated to keep making them. Profit drives business decision-making, not what's subjectively best for entry-level products. Apple will sell a ton of 16Gb iPhones in 2016. Until the majority of consumers wise up and stop trading dollars for them, Apple is just doing "what works".

But a lot them are going for the base model because of price, regardless of whether they are aware or not that it may not be enough storage for them. Btw, storage isn't the only factor people consider when buying phones.

So for many it's just Apple being greedy going after pure profit over usability.

Wonder if EarPods is now Lightning Port connector or they do still have headphone jack. Would be making some more $$ from those buying the SE and give them some help logistically in ramping up production and ironing out problems if wanting for the iPhone 7.

Apple really deserves a flop to get them back down on earth a little bit but it probably wont as usual :/

i hope there r no claps for its reveal sort of like a quiet booooo

also no 3D Touch? like what the hell? isnt that what all those 6S ads are all about? way to get devs to implement something ... not

It was pretty obvious they were going to go with 16 as the base.

What I'm pissed about is someone got a hold of the retail packaging and didn't bother to take a picture of the FRONT so we could confirm what the device will look like.

This was probably leaked by Apple, so that no one would be shocked during the keynote. It lessens the blow if people are already expecting it.

16GB in 2016 goodness me this will be a shameful low if it's true Apple!

Wait till the stockholder fanboys tell you that 16 GB is plenty fine for most people... and that we all stream stuff anyway... and that... 16 GB base *with* SD slot for additional storage one could make a point for. 16 GB *without* SD slot, just plain greed.

I will never get a 16GB since I use my iPhone as my travel camera, so I don't care. But even I think this is ridiculous. 16GB is barely usable for even the most budget concious of iPhone users.

My 16GB 5s has more free space on it than my 128GB ipad air. I have never wished for more space on the phone, can't say the same thing about the ipad.

I can see why the SE has a 16GB model but they better bump up the 7 to at least 32.

If the iPhone 7 starts at 16 GB, I better not see one post why Apple is doing the right thing and how 16 GB is fine. You will just sound really stupid or expose yourself as Tim himself.

yeah I'm fully aware of that, but they could just not make them... just start at 32gb for example and then onwards.

People will still by just the entry level will be higher.

You're right. Now, if only Apple would offer larger capacity devices for people who don't want to store stuff in the cloud or need more storage for whatever reason...

For what it's worth, both my iPhone and iPad are 128GB because anything less wouldn't work for me, but I don't see the problem with Apple offering people the choice of a lower capacity or a higher one: that way everyone is happy (or so you'd think ;))

Everyone is well aware that there are options. The thing is that options from other companies are starting to look much better than the Apple options

For an iPhone 6s Plus in Canada you will pay $449 with a 2 year contract, or $1029 without. That is for the 16gb model
You can get a Galaxy S7 Edge for $349 with a 2 year contract, or $999 without. For that you get 32gb, expandable to 200gb with microSD

I'm liking the sound of this phone.
Obviously I'd be getting a model with more than 16GB storage, but apart from that, it's looking like being a suitable upgrade for me, from my 5S.

Bwhahahah apple's new phone bait. They are trolling us.... Including that new cracked addicted Cookie Monster.

For those who are complaining:
I bought 128GB model 6S plus, but for most of my other iPhones, I always selected 16GB. It was very enough for my needs as I don't install huge games and don't shoot video, but if I wanted, 16GB would be enough for some big apps and some video. But if you want more storage, buy 64GB and higher size options.

You don't have to buy 16GB and no one forces you to buy it.
16GB is actually a good option for developing countries, young users and business users.
So no reasons to complain

16gb doesnt matter. Most of you fanboys will still buy it, thereby telling apple that you're content with 16gb storage.

If only some of you voted with your wallets.

I own a lot of Apple stuff but I'm a big fan of my wallet indeed. I can give up to a feature, if the product use is overall satisfying. I'm also willing to spend a lot of money if the product I buy is proportionally very good, and I value also the design the feeling holding it in my hand. Unfortunately, recently, I believe Apple is failing a lot of products. He is giving up Macs because he found a lot more remunerating the sales of mobile devices. Iphones are still good devices but the competitors are fighting like hell and they are really trying to give more, included good design. I don't know if this year I will buy my umpteenth iPhone.
What I want to say in short is that 16 Gb really sucks, if it's true the should be ashamed of themselves.

What's funny is the 128 which I have is too much storage for my needs but 32 is too little. So if they do this deliberately-odd-storage-for-upsell nonsense on the 7 that'll be frustrating. They should sell the 7 in 64 GB or 128 GB.

If they choose to sell at 256 GB iPhone they're welcome to.
What's wrong with that strategy? You still bought the iPhone, right? So for you, the price is appropriate. ;) If you thought it didn't, you wouldn't have bought it.

Apple can barely keep the lights on so they need us all to pay up if we want more than 16gb of storage. I've got to be honest its really getting old Apple. Quite gouging your customers or they will move to other devices.

Sounds good but I don't see Apple customers going anywhere anytime soon, too many fanboys
