It's not that they *only* sell 16 GB models, which is not true. It's that they *do* sell 16 GB models, which is totally true. There is no reason for 16 GB other than greed. If you only want to use 8 GB of the 16 GB, great. But the argument that 16 GB is enough for most people and that if you don't like it, just pay more, is not a great argument at all.
LOL, what? No reason? If that's assumption is correct, then sales of iPhone should drop because hey, nobody would want to pay that much for iPhone right? But guess what, Apple is still selling iPhone by the boatload.

Moral of the story, buy what you want. If a company doesn't offer their product at a price you want, what the eff are you doing by paying for it anyway? I don't understand. So many great alternatives out there.

They definitely should drop 16GB as the base and move to 32GB.

That said, the phone if it looks like the guess on page 1 looks great, looking forward to it - as long as it has 2GB of RAM that will be key.

Moral of the story is be the company you keep on telling the press and customers you are. One that cares about its customers. We get 1 GB of storage for every year this century! So maybe by 2032, Apple will finally give in. The moral of the story is that greed is more powerful than customer satisfaction.

LOL it'll cost over 400 dollars and still have just 16 gigs of memory and no expandable memory. So damn stupid.

2 GB of RAM? Who needs that! Why waste RAM on your 16 GB base model? Apple saves that for the 64 GB version...

Not for me, I'll stick with iPhone. Just wish I didn't have to bend over for Apple every new product launch.

Guys this is the upgrade to the 5C so don't expect a major wow factor in this phone everything is basic 16gb is well beyond expected for this model!

If the price isn't right for you, there are plenty of options today. Even a mid range Android phone is well built nowadays.
Jeez, I'm not selecting computing platforms based on price. Ended up with Windows once.

! NEVER AGAIN !
Plus if the pricing structure isn't right for the market, iPhone sales would drop like a brick.
No they just don't skyrocket like they would if even stingy people like me would send a couple hundred dollars in Apples direction.
But since so many people are still buying iPhones, that means Apple's pricing strategy fits he market. Simple economics.
No it doesn't. A strategy fits a market when there is no way other way to make even more money and that I don't believe. There is no reason for high-end Samsung smartphones even to exist. Apple could own the whole cake and make 100% of the profits.
And what makes you think Apple won't offer higher capacity option? All the complaints here made it seems like Apple only sells a 16GB iPhone.
No the complains are about that the small base configuration makes the one you want and may end up buying another $100 more expensive.

16GB is enough for lots of people. This isn't an arguement, it is fact. If no one bought them, a "greedy company" like Apple would not make them. Some day the base storage size will go up.

(btw, Apple has ALWAYS put less storage and RAM in their devices than other manufacturers, and this goes back to when they only sold computers ... in the 1980s. Trying to argue about it will not change it. That is also a fact.)

iPhone 2007, rocked the world with 16 GB of storage. iPhone 2016, still rocking the world with 16 GB of storage. If that's not innovation, I don't know what is!

Did anyone expect that the lower end device would start with more GB storage than the high end (6S)??

Please stop with the 16gb whining again. You can upgrade to the 50gb Cloud storage which works out much cheaper and change your photo album to be on the cloud. If photos and videos take up the most space, I'd recommend iCloud storage.

The only reason people want more than 16GB, without paying more for it, is greed. There can't be another reason. It's not even *possible* for there to be another reason. People are greedy. QED

Gimme more! Gimme more! Gimme more! Shower me with GBs. Stop being greedy and gimme more!

I see this as a positive move. Lets not forget that the cheapest iPhone you can buy in the UK. the 5C, starts at 8GB. Could we be looking at a 32GB/65GB/128GB option for the iPhone 7?

16GB is not a surprise in the smaller model. 16GB in the iPhone 7 will be a surprise. They'll probably move it to 32GB once the flagship starts with 32GB.

This. Vote with your wallet or don't complain.

I certainly didn't, but reading this thread suggests lots of folks have a relatively recent relationship with Apple. As long as Apple offers more storage (which they do) I don't understand all the whining.

They should sell 16 GB phones only to you. For the rest of us, we'd prefer 32 GB as the base, as it should be.

Quadrupling your storage to 64gb is only $100 more, or like $3/month if you're financing.
What is the fascination with buying the VERY lowest tier phone??
Do you only eat plain burgers with no add-ons?? They say: "it's $1.00 more for cheese or bacon" & you lose your mind and foam at the mouth shouting about the huge markup of a three cent piece of cheese & how the the basic burger should have cheese included??
No. The lowest tier of a product always is minus options of the top tier version.
As a stockholder AND a fan of the products, I appreciate the fact that the next tier up now quadruples, instead of doubles, like it did a few years back... however- I know that they'd lose umpteen millions that they're getting now on the upgrades to 64gb from 16gb if it was only coming up from 32gb as the base. Almost no one would bother upgrading, as you say- 32gb is "enough".
I look forward to the choices being 32gb, 128gb, & 256gb... but in a year or two, when that 32gb is a bit more "ho-hum" and more people would be willing to upgrade to 128gb.
Call me a centrist, but I can see the value in having nice things AND my stock going up from the company being very profitable.

16GB in 2016 goodness me this will be a shameful low if it's true Apple!

Oooooh... Not just a low but a shameful low. Did the Earth just tilt a few extra degrees in response?

The solution is simple. If you need more memory, simply pay for it. Many people with modest needs don't store a lot of music/apps/photos/videos - for those 16 gb works great.

If you don't have an adequate job that will let you pay the small incremental charge for what you need, simply buy a Sanyo or Samsung phone. Operators are standing by, waiting for your opened wallet. Give them a call and try and find some joy in your life rather than letting Apple have this immense power over your happiness.

BTW... There's a really good reason you don't see Samsung, Google, and all the others taken to court by law enforcement agencies to have their phones broken, or their CEOs taking a strong stand in response. Think about it...

The SE would make an ideal Corporate option. My company has a $200 subsidized price limit for smart phones. I imagine that is common. Therefore Apple needs an option that results in a $00 subsidized price. 16GB is easily enough for Corporate use.
