1. Today, Apple will launch a video device, store will go down at 2:00. New iPod configurations will also accompany the event. This will round out the holiday iPod lineup. Apple has never used California Theater for non-iPod events.
2. New PPC products will be announced over the next two weeks. Freescale's dual-core proc and IBM's dual-core proc will find their way into PM's and PB's.
This means for the holiday quarter, Apple wil have a fairly "fresh" lineup for the holiday season, and some of the last of the PPC products for the pro line going into next year with a new dual-core lineup tht has at least a little bit of growth room for the first three quarters.
My guess.

Apple to hold special press conference in New York Oct. 19
By Jim Dalrymple jdalrymple@maccentral.com
Apple Computer is once again gathering the press together as it rolls out new innovations. The latest invitation-only event will be held in New York City on October 19, 2005 on the eve of PhotoPlus Expo. Apple doesnt say exactly what the press conference will be about, but the invitation sent to MacCentral asks to join them as we unveil Apples latest pro innovations.
This will be the third special product focused event that Apple has held in just over a month. On September 7, Apple launched the iPod nano and just this week they unveiled the video iPod and new iMac.

RHMMMM said:Yeah...it's on the eve of the PhotoPlus Expo, so it could definitely be new software...BUT, what platform is photo stuff, say like Photoshop really popular on? Mac! - and most professional creative people use Pro Macs. So, why not unveil new Pro Macs for the Expo?

Sun doesn't like Microsoft.
Microsoft doesn't like Sun.
They simply tolerate each other.
Microsoft even attempted to exclude support for the JVM on XP, until Sun starting making noise.
I doubt Sun is going the 'extra mile' to make sure that the JVM runs on Windows better than their own server software.
I believe he was more specific than that in his keynote saying that Pro lines would transition last. I could be wrong, but need to go back and rewatch the keynote.dongmin said:Actually, no. He never mentioned any specific timeframe for any specific product. It's the rumor and media sources that have been filling in the gaps. As far as the official Apple party line goes:
First Intel Macs by WWDC 2006 -- meaning in could happen at the show or before.
Completed transition by end of 2007 -- most people are assuming that the Power Macs and Xserves will be the last to make the transition, hence the rumors that Power Macs will come at the middle or end of 2007.
JCT said:Given the "show" they put on earlier this week, to make such a fuss over a single piece of software (unless it blows out Photoshop, which I doubt) would really be a poke in the eye to the professional customers. Last thing in the world they should do right now.
They need to make it clear that they are not just turning into the "IPod" / Consumer company.
