Did you cut the little things with spheres on top off? I'm trying to redo my mod because I sold my old one to my friend. But i remember if I sawed off some the whole case panel comes loose. So which ones did you saw off. Can you take me a picture of your case? Or can you pm me your phone number so we can chat about this all night?

I would be happy to answer any questions, but you might have to be a little more specific. What spheres on the top do you mean?

You could also use an Atom processor + board, they're much smaller than that.

I was looking for the cheapest and most powerful. And to run hacked OSX it is best to stick to Core 2 Duos or Quads, as far as I can tell they are just more compatible.

How do you take this out

I just need to know if I need to take this out.

Yeah, I just used pliers to pull em all off. It was pretty easy. They need to come off or you probably will have a real rough time mounting the mobo.

the square is cooling for the mobo. just pry it off with a screwdriver :D now i just need to drill the holes

How did you modify the power switch? It dosent work with my mobo

This was a MEGA pain. Basically, I took the metal plate off where the front panel is. Then I drilled through the whole board and metal right where the current power button is. Next, I put the regular ATX mobo power button that I had purchased from the local computer store in the place of the original button. Then I duct taped the button into place from behind. Finally I mounted the metal plate again and all is well. You can basically disregard the original connectors, I looked into how to make it work and it wasn't worth the time. My solution works perfectly, but requires a little problem solving lol. I can take some pics or explain any further questions you have, just lemme know

Even the Atom will be faster than anything the G4 ever housed.

No it's not, a 1.6GHz Atom is slower than a 900MHz celeron M which is certainly slower than a 1.42GHz g4.

Atoms blow unless you need insanely low power consumption.

Exactly! Even though it has more "MegaHerts". The frequency is not all that matters.

Search "MegaHerts Myth" on YouTube. Then you realize.

I'll post some pics a little later. And I just totally realized that I mounted the mobo like an inch too high, because everything is perfectly aligned except for the PCI Express x1 port, which I didn't even notice lol

EDIT: Take a look at post 42 above and zoom in on one of the pictures. You can see where the PCI Express x1 port is lined up :) oops!

zip drive bezel? how come i dont have one
how do i get one?

The G4 PowerMac had several models, including one with a ZIP drive. Your mac probably just didn't have one. You might be able to get one off of eBay, if you really really want one, but they are pretty useless and mine is no longer installed.

BTW this mod is still running strong and I use it as my day to day desktop

Have you hammered out the sleep issue yet? So the system hits full standby, I think it is S3 sleep?

Also does power stepping work (whatever intel's term is) so that your CPU throttles down its clock speed and power usage when under light load? Is your GPU always being run at full tilt all the time too, or doesit vary as Core Image and other GPU processes require it?

Does your onboard ethernet work?

Do you get full audio functionality? Mic-in, Line-out, headphone out or is it just 2 channel stereo?

So far sleep is a little sketchy. If I have it on S1 then it powers off the graphics card and HDs, but not the fans. S3 just powers the whole PC off when I try to sleep.

I am unsure about power stepping and throttling, how would I check?

My onboard ethernet works, but I use the ASUS PCI wireless card that is recognized as an airport card OTB.

Right now all I have is two channel stereo, but I could buy a PCI or USB sound card to resolve that. It just isn't that big of a deal to me.

okay what ive done so far:
  • dremel out the back panel
  • mount the mobo
  • power supply works
  • power switch works

how did you get the fan to work?
