are you sure its 120mm? it seems a little larger. how long is your 24pin power supply cable?

I am positive it is 120mm, just measure the old one. And my 24 pin cable was long enough, but I needed an extender to get the processor power cord long enough

AFAIK mATX mobos are all about the same size, so I would wager any one would work. I just had to dremel out the old back panel and mount the mobo with new standoffs, pretty simple.

I also now have my Aluminum Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse hooked up and it looks sweeeet. I am thinking about adding a front I/O panel where the ZIP drive once was.

All M-ATX motherboards are the same 9.6" x 9.6", so any should work. I may take my old dead G4 and do this to it at some point.

No, but wait. If you take the PowerMac mobo and compare it to a ATX mobo. Theyre the same length.

Really? That's very good to know. Maybe it would be possible to make a Powermac Cube out of a Powermac G4 motherboard and a M-ATX cube PC case. That would be awesome!

The orientation is off on some of the components though. Try and mount a standard ATX mobo and see what happens. The RAM and resistors will hit when you try and close it. And most ATX mobos are too long. The G4 case only has room for 4 expansion cards remember? The ATX mobos I just looked at on NewEgg all have 6 expansion card slots.

EDIT: and the powermac mobo is wayyyyy to big to fit into any cube, not to mention its proprietary mounting holes on the bottom.

Ok. What I'm doing now is im drilling the holes. Do I drill through the plastic or do i use a cutter knife and cut a square out of it first

I drilled the holes with the dremel and just kind of melted the plastic away with it, if that makes any sense lol

I'd trade you for yours, I don't want a hole in my awesome machine lol. BTW the bezel for the ZIP drive is hot glued to the back of the panel, but there isn't actually a ZIP drive, I just didn't like the obvious open space. Anyways, it's up to you and I would like to see a pic of yours first before a trade.

Sure! I'll take a pic of mine after I get home! Also, the fan is not 120mm its 155mm so yeah. And also, what did you do with the speakers? Did you strip the wires and solder it to my foot?

Also, does the zip drive bezel work with floppy drives?

Hmmm, maybe we have slightly different models as far as the fan goes. And I pulled the speaker out and dumped it, it wasn't worth my time to try and get a 10 year old front speaker hooked up.

The only reason I don't think a floppy drive would fit is because of the lack of a button hole. The pic below should show you what I mean. And remember the bezel of the zip drive is hot glued to the other side, so you will have to pull it apart lol. When you take a pic of your panel, please detach it from the powermac so I can tell if we have compatible panels

Wait wait wait... if it dosent work with a floppy drive.. Screw it. all i wanted it for was a floppy drive. can you test it first?

peel away? if you screw it in without a hole that's big enough, you wont be able to open it because the plastic cant move

Right. You have to kind of melt/peel away the plastic with the drill right after you make the hole. Git rid of about a quarter size area around the screw so it can still open and close.

Now I want to write a diary of what iv'e done because these are going to be the golden hours of my case modding.

Previously
-cut out the old Back Panel with a pair of aero clips
-remove the airport thing

what i did today
i bought a 10 dollar ipod docking thing from the reject shop and i mounted them with my old friend blu tack and i drilled a hole in the back of a pci slot placeholder and threaded it through to where my audio output is supposed to be. now i just bought a y cable of ebay and it should come on tuesday or wednesday now i can have two way speakers
