Think Secret is run by a 19 year old.

As for them 'getting it right every time', I'd suggest you look at:
Tiger will likely be in stores by April 15. - Wrong

Color screen iPod mini with 6GB Seagate drives - Wrong (No color screen)

Six new colors for iPod mini - Wrong (No new colors, gold removed, existing colors (sans silver) made more vibrant)

2 and 4 GB iPod minis starting at around $99 - Wrong (4 GB only; $249). Remember the complaints people had toward Apple because Think Secret got the rumor wrong?

New 'body colors' for existing iPod models - Wrong.

------

Think Secret does get a lot of things right, but to say they always get it right is ignoring the truth.

I think that this rumor is going to be another Think Secret error. Big time.

Well the Tiger 15th of april was not very wrong and apple could have changed it just because of this rumor ;) as well as all the others ;)

i have this memory in the back of my mind that there was this utility program or diagnostic program that seemed to have added support for 4 processors/cores. there were screenshots around the web somewhere. does anyone else remember this?

We keep forgetting this part of the thinksecret report:

Sources were unable to confirm at this time whether the systems will sport the dual-core PowerPC 970MP processor or the single-core PowerPC 970GX, although unconfirmed notes point to the PowerPC 970MP. The second core would deliver performance gains far greater than the 200-300MHz bumps each processor is receiving alone with the update.

..........although unconfirmed notes point to the PowerPC 970MP

This is what I think. I think the Dual 2 is going to be 1499, the Dual 2.3 is going to be 1999, and the Dual 2.7 will be 2999 and the only Dual Core out of the lineup.

Apple will not announce anything Sunday. NAB2005 runs from 16-21, however the exhibits are from the 18-21, the 18th happens to be a Tuesday, my bet is then.

I thought they actually did have an event planned for Sunday at NAB.

CHUD tools or something, I believe.

Actually the 18th is a Monday. Sorry for nitpicking :D

Aha, you are right, oops. But still, why would you release new products on a Sunday? Companies are creatures of habit, especially Apple when it comes to releases and i don't ever remember Apple releasing anything on a Sunday. They have released/announced on a Monday before though. If they were going to do it on the weekend, Saturday would make more sense.

P4 4GHZ In Flames

Pretty disappointing that they didn't make 3GHz on the PM. Doesn't the Intel Pentium 4 Extreme 840 go at 4GHz?

I was super sure I wanted to upgrade my 2003 Dual 2.0 but will have to wait and see now.

If i recall correctly, the p4 4ghz was pulled from production once it had been realized that after running while the chips burst into flames and started a couple computers on fire. Only a select group of ppl had them at the time. From what i understand 3.8 is the top right now.

I remember that too now, but hardware? hmmmm maybe if the specs ARE as horribly underwhelming as TS reported they will be 'updated' sunday well below the radar, possibly to avoid some of the embarrassment. Stealth update.

P4 has special fire-prevention circuitry

You obviously forgot the smileys on that post :D :D

In fact, you don't even need a heatsink on a P4 - it will monitor its own temperature and throttle back to stay cool.

Here's a photo of Intel and AMD chips after they've been run without a heat sink: http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/20010917/heatvideo-01.html

First of all... i could do that test myself.. and uh.. have things turn out differently. It's called simply dont actually test teh intels. Secondly, these are really old chips.. 2ghz and 1.4?? I just wanted to clarify i was talking 4ghz which started on fire.

Well it all ende in shutdown with all of them though.....so I think ill keep my heatsink on :p Also this is older vrsions of AMD and Intel, so don'y really apply ;)

This has to be wrong!

I don't think TS got it right this time. If apple is interested in increasing their sales they wouldn't go with anything less than a Dual Dual Core 3.0 Ghz G5 for their top of the line desktop. They cannot possibly compete with AMD with anything less than that.

I am in the market for a new worksation and i know for a fact that if these rumors were true, i wouldn't be interested in getting something so underpowered. I'm pretty sure that alot of people will agree with me on this.

sorry TS but i don't think so...

wrong - read it again

The P4 did not shut down - here's the quote

After the removal of the heat sink, Quake 3 Arena is slowing down significantly, but the system remains fully operational. The surface temperature of the Pentium 4 processor is a mere 29 degrees Celsius or 84 degrees Fahrenheit.

After we put the heat sink back in place, the system performance went up to the original level.

This shows that Pentium 4 has an excellent thermal design. The processor does not take any damage and you are not even losing data, because the system remains operational.

Intel hasn't removed the thermal controls from newer P4s, but it's possible that AMD has added similar circuitry.

I do not expect we will see dual cores being released until at the earliest the WWDC timeframe but more likely 4th quarter.
The reason I think that is because IBM will not be introducing the dual core processors for their JS20 Blade servers until early 1st Quarter 2006.
We are in talks with them about purchasing 512 Processors of their JS20's Blade Center.
Currently their line is single core at 2.2 Ghz. They are speed bumping these to 2.5 in August( which will be the ones we buy). We wanted the dual cores but can't wait because we have to spend the money for this particular project in this fiscal year.

Since Apple has a deal with IBM to get the faster speed processors I expect that the PowerMac will get a speed bump soon at around 2.7 to 2.8 Ghz. We might see 3GHz in the single core as a top end but I wouldn't bet on it.
When the dual cores arrive later this year, I don't expect them to be any faster that 2.5 to 2.7 GHz.

I will have better info by the end of this month because we will be meeting with Apple about the status of their Xserve roadmap.
Unfortunately I won't be able to share that info with my fellow Macrumor's members due to NDA.

Woefully underpowered!

Very unimpressed with the spec if it proves true. There have been no revisions to the motherboard since the G5 was released 2 years ago. Where's the DDR2 memory or PCIe graphics. I don't think you can buy a mid rnage PC with an ATI9600 anymore that card alone must be 2 years old. Why not an X800 in the top machine. As far as the processor goes, looks more like it will be the existing 970FX as they include 512Kb cache in the spec. Most rumours suggest the 970MP will have 1Mb per core.

If Apple arn't careful these machines could provide the biggest PC/Apple hardware/performance gap to date!!

Wont be upgrading my computer this time round.

A little birdie told me today that the new G5's aren't gonna be dual core.

And was this little birdie Apples Marketing/manfacturing team.. or did they have little stubby wings and a red breast.

You can't make a statement like that without giving us some sort of story...
Then and only then can we either start ripping your statement to bits or simply perpetuate the romour mill. :)

Actually I think the processor is being changed to the 970GX with 1MB cache instead of 512KB. This processor is suppose to allow speed increases up to 3GHz.
As I said in my above post I really don't think we will see the dual core 970MP until at least WWDC. But the again I could be wrong.

Maybe a daft Question..but

Is there a size limit to threads in this forum ?
Keeping up with 16 pages is well farily time consuming... especially if you haven't been keeping up.

I think threads just die on their own.
When people stop posting to them they eventually reach the second page of the topic and just wither away.

I hope your right. For the casual user like me, getting a dual 2, especially with the educators discount, will have me ordering asap. It would meet all my needs and give me more money to update my monitor to a larger apple display. :)

Mhz

Don't u know mhz don't compare.
Whats wrong wit u, is ur hearing impared.
The lot of u mhz hungry,
2.7 is more than enough for me.
Proffesionals,
I don't know maybe.
Doesn't 2.5,
G5,
piss on the P3.6.
Wot more do u want guys.

These updates are good what more do you want.

I'm not sure on the benchmarks but how does the G5 2.5ghz compare with the latest pentium 4.
