The Bright and Shining Center of my Universe just picked up one of these Alienware boxes, and it's slick. I'll give them full points for design, and for matching components to create a truly impressive gamer's platform. If you are a gamer, by all means buy an Alienware box. If you're a GEEK gamer, build the thing yourself - go wild!

Me, I've built many AMD boxen. I've got a pretty decent one sitting here with a gig of RAM and over a terabyte of disk and all the bells and whistles (and fans). Inside the box, a place with which I'm intimately familiar, is a rat's nest of wires and cables. I try to tame them with ties and velcro before closing up the box, but I'm convinced they untie and intertwine themselves once the lights are out.

The thing that sold me first on the Dual G5 was how flippin' BEAUTIFUL it is under the hood. No tangled wires. No dangling cables. Just clear, clean, organized order, like a carefully raked Japanese contemplation garden.

I'm looking forward to meditating in my new G5 garden in a couple of weeks...

Man you are so right, I have built myself quite a few cpu's over the time, and the way the g5 looks inside is second to none, how do they do it?

Everything is mounted to the mobo. thats why such a clean design. Give it 2 90nmG5s a 9800xt option or 9700 standard ;) and have it in a few colors. maybe aluminum slate and ivory? and lets sell some Macs. think if they keep 2.0 G5s they will be 90nm or 130nm anybody?

90nm would be nice but I would expect 130nm on the lower unit to persuade people to move up a model.

It's back up and nothings changed! I hate you, Apple! You got my hopes up and then..... nothing. Thanks.
I told ya...but it is still possible that had to take it down to make sure everything was in order for when they put it up for real on the 23rd.

May have just been some server upgrades, patches or what not... 10 days to go...

But the 90nm should be cheaper than the 130.

It may be cheaper to produce but it doesn't necessarily follow that it'll be marketed that way. If it features in the lower end model it'll give people a reason to move up and part with more cash i.e. more profits for apple.

Oops really late to the party...

Deepkid "If the rumored line-up is true, the top end machine would boast of an incredible speed increase not only in terms of raw CPU speed, but a faster system bus and likely improvements. Think about total system improvements, over just raw CPU gains. Forget the Mhz myth." Wizard "A headless IMac is about the only hope that Apple has of recovering makret share. Letting this speculation die along with the pressure it puts on Apple is to let the corporation itself die. Apple simply can not afford to continue to ignore market demand and the corresponding lost of market share. Moving only 200,000 units per quarter is pathetic and not sustainable.
Apple needs new machine that open up new markets. Currently the PowerMac is only selling well into a dying market share. What good is that?"

Open up new markets? Are you serious?? PC manufacturers have already done this to the point of overkill – over penetration of that market niche, and killing their margins because of saturation – thus I’ll agree with Deepkid. Apple just got debt free!! Those 200K units of PowerMacs, plus more iMacs, PowerBooks, iPods, etc…..ALL helped to accomplished this, not to mention iTMS. I think we’re all missing Apple’s angle when it comes to computers. Apple creating the digital lifestyle to help sell the entire lineup, as well as allowing it to develop useful software that gives that lifestyle purpose, yet also allowing the computer to create remarkable products to enhance that lifestyle….(place your favorite/world’s favorite music player here). I think Apple may do the same for the PowerMac, PowerBook lineup, though maybe at a different angle to further target the business market or the pro-user market. The consumer market in regards to their product line has stagnated somewhat. There are still more consumers than pro-user’s and numbers from the previous 2 years show that consumers still show their just as important.
Personally though I think other business’ that aren’t shy to show a Mac in their ads would help the Mac marketing and perception of increasing marketshare. (Those recent "only from Fido" on Unlimited Fido 2 Fido wireless in Canada - loved seeing that Apple PowerBook 15" in plain view!!!)

Here's what I think about any updates to the G5 lineup:

Oh, and, I think a 2.4ghz Power Mac G5 update is quite possible within the next month, but don't expect anything until at least april.

I hope they have USB2, possibly firewire, and maybe an audio out to allow easy access.
