I think we can agree that the French site Macplus.org does not know anything. As a result, I would call into question the whole rumor that started this rather long thread.

Maybe we can recap what we "know":
1) there is a new G5 chip that has appeared in the XServe, and we assume will be in the G5 updates
2) The chip is running at 2.0 -- but do we have any proof of the same chip being manufactured at any of the speeds that have been rumored?
3) Steve Jobs has claimed 3.0 will be achieved within a year (a year of initial announcement? of initial shipping? whatever)
4) We'll long past due updates and the entire line or hardware is really outdated (with the possible exception of the G5s)

What else do we "know"?

We know that it's easy to claim that a chip or piece of technology will be somewhere, but that actually having that chip finished, perfected, and in products and working is an entirely different story.

We also know that PowerMacs (and other models?) are delayed right now, and aren't shipping out for upwards of a month.

Oh, and we also know that it took almost 4 months for the first batch of G5s to go from "announced" to "shipped."

You're ALL still right (probably)

When they announced the memory discounts which end March 27th, I predicted G5 updates would be either March 28th, or if you're into the Tuesday thing, March 30th.

Yeah, you and about a hundred other people. There's a thick line between prediction and bandwagoning. (Did I just invent a new word?)

Hurry up Apple.

French site, MacPlus.org, reports that according to their source, 3 new PowerMac G5 models will be released on Tuesday, March 23rd.

According to their information, the new machines will come in at the following specs:

Dual 1.8GHz G5, 256MB DDR400, 80GB HD, GeForce 5200 Ultra
Dual 2.2GHz G5, 512MB DDR400, 160GB HD, Radeon 9600
Dual 2.4GHz G5, 512MB DDR400, 160GB HD, Radeon 9600

MacPlus.org does not frequently publish rumors, but has published an accurate release date in the past.
Well this was wrong.

Yep, plenty of rumours out there and prophets, and some pretty poor predictions (inside information) to date.

Think Secret has been pretty reliable in the past and they have nothing to say, not to mention they are have what appears to be there own criticism as good journalists do, but this may also have had the effect of closing off some of their Apple loyal informants...

AHHH I spontaneously combusted!! Ok I really will spontaneously combust if they aren't released on the 30th.

Steve Jobs is just reading these boards laughing... He's watching us wait and guess and he keeps changing the date... just for the rumor people.. :p

I wonder if the 30th can really cause spontaneous combustion. I believe there have been people ready to spontaneously combust for weeks now!

Well, really, he's probably p.o.'d that they haven't gotten anything out yet. I'm sure there's some supply issue or two (or two hundred) holding this all up.

Curiously, we haven't heard from a few of them today.

Cause for concern?

Well, maybe it's just me, but my Dual was ordered right after MWSF and originally had a 3/10 ship date... that was pushed back to 4/29. So I'm taking "shipped in April" to mean the end of April :p (maybe!)

Again, maybe that's just me. Anyone else have a Dual with an earlier ship date?

MM
Cancel your order! A G9 is coming! I'm kidding. April sounds right. Its 1:45 PST and no news.

I think that was all Crl900...

But he's puched his explosion date back to the 30th.

A wise decision... :p ;) :D

Hmm

Now i question if this machine will even be out on the 30th? I mean what are the chances? If they aren't out by the 30th I might even just forget the stupid rumor thing(besides, the people who put these dates for the rumors must have the I.Q of my Breakfast)....

NOT necessarily, Paul.

Obviously, their information about the DATE is old, and Apple may have changed it for INTERNAL reasons, like their own scheduling, or state of preparedness. We would not get any "update" of the "release date".

However, there is the matter of a detailed description of 3 new, all-dual, PowerMacs, with specifics about RAM and the 8x SuperDrive.

As we roll forward to March 30th (the next day is my birthday, thank you very much) and to future Tuesdays, let's see how accurate http://www.MacPlus.org and its "anglo-saxon" source at 1 Infinite Loop Way, Cupertino, CA, are with the rest of the "rumor".

If the next release proves to be "all-Dual PowerMacs" I'd give them 1 out of 5 stars,
if the spread of clockspeed matches, I'd add 3 more stars, and
if the PowerMacs come with Pioneer 8x SuperDrives - I'd say they are 5 for 5.

I wonder if he has an iSight so he can let us see what human combustion really looks like. Then we can show Osama bin Laden what he's in for. :D

Steve just got fed up of us expecting everything on Tuesdays.....

So, Wednesday?

:p

Was that a dream you had? Or just more extensive wishful thinking? I think I'll set my sights on June so as not to get my hopes dashed. :p

damn, so lets wait until 30th

damn, so lets wait until 30th march...
(and then wait until 18th april,
and then wait until june and see 2.4ghz there and 3ghz in december if at all)

i am soooo depressed ;-) --- .... =-/

don't they make something for that ... ProMac or something.

Apple is such an unprofessional, sad, sad company these days. Something terrible is going on there in Cupertino.Don't anyone dare to argue this with iPod and ITunes success  I look at their consumer offerings and prices they are charging for it and get depressed straight away. Xserve was announced back in January, took them almost 3 months to ship it. PowerMacs are almost year old (9 months,no updates here as well). It seems that they just can't get anything right without screwing up something else. Sorry but I must go back to sleep now.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Who knows if there is even anything coming out march april may june who knows its not like anything came from apple themselves we could not see a new powermac till late summer  we just dont know i do know one thing all these rumors are driving me nuts :(

I'm not so depressed by this week's eventless Tuesday, but another one next week will be pretty sad. The lineup--the whole lineup--needs serious updates.
