Maybe we can recap what we "know":
1) there is a new G5 chip that has appeared in the XServe, and we assume will be in the G5 updates
2) The chip is running at 2.0 -- but do we have any proof of the same chip being manufactured at any of the speeds that have been rumored?
3) Steve Jobs has claimed 3.0 will be achieved within a year (a year of initial announcement? of initial shipping? whatever)
4) We'll long past due updates and the entire line or hardware is really outdated (with the possible exception of the G5s)
What else do we "know"?
We know that it's easy to claim that a chip or piece of technology will be somewhere, but that actually having that chip finished, perfected, and in products and working is an entirely different story.
We also know that PowerMacs (and other models?) are delayed right now, and aren't shipping out for upwards of a month.
Oh, and we also know that it took almost 4 months for the first batch of G5s to go from "announced" to "shipped."
