When I first started running the program that opens the cmd prompt. before it said reading the image patch is said that it could not generate the dropbear dss key or w/e it is because it said "reason: exists". What do I do? I've restored my ipod but it still does it

Restore your iPod. Whenever you are going to run touchfree.exe, make sure you right-click it and click Run as Administrator instead of just double clicking it. That should fix it.

Alright, I got it all installed. I just downloaded a zip file of apps but I'm not sure where to extract them to and how to get them onto the iPod. Any ideas?

I'm having a bigger issue now. I can't restore my ipod! It said failed to read contents of the ipod. So I click restore and get:

The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (-18).

What do i do???

Here's an updated version, no rapidshare. The difference is that this version does some error checking. It does more verification to check whether each step has been done successfully before proceeding (should resolve some of those connection refused problems).

It also allows you to resume from any stage, which is good if there was a temporary issue, and saves a lot of restoring. I still don't consider any of this newbie-material, btw., but it's there for what it's worth.

Hello Planetbeing.
Can you upload this updated version again? The link above is dead!

Thanks in advance

Keep your iPod plugged into the PC. Hold the Home and Sleep button until the ipod turns off. When it turns off, let go of the SLEEP button while continuing to hold the HOME button. After a while, your ipod will go into restore mode, and itunes will be able to restore it.

please add pictures of the steps so I can confirm if I'm making a mistake or not, ty.

"couldn't create file dropbear_dss_host_key"
"Reason: File Exists"

It says that at the start but it just continues on, but once it gets to the ip adress thing i get the fatal putty network error thing. Could that be caused by the dropbear_dss_host_key issue? if so how do i fix it?

runtime error

Has anybody else gotten an application error when launching touchfree.exe?

The error code is 0xc0000135. Does touchfree.exe require the 1.1 .Net framework?

i give up

After three attempts, I've given up on touchfree.exe. The application failed the first time because I did not have .net framework 2.0. That was an easy fix. The second and third times, the application completely stopped right after the dropbear generation and a windows error report was created. Thank god the iTunes restore utility works flawlessly.

Has anybody had a similar experience where the touchfree.exe application completely craps out five lines in?

How do you get to the IP on the touch ?
Is it the serial number or something ?

Please help !

EDIT New Version AVaiable, cuts out more steps, get it HERE!!

http://zoo.cs.yale.edu/~yw226/ipod/touchfree3.zip

NOTE THAT .NET FRAMEWORK 2.0 IS REQUIRED FOR THIS APPLICATION

1. Extract all of the files in this zip archive.

2. Copy iTunesMobileDevice.dll from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin to the same folder as touchFree.exe.

3. Restore your iPod to a fresh 1.1.1 state (recommended but optional)

4. Load http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com in Safari on the iPod. Safari should exit/crash.

5. Run touchFree.exe

- When prompted to reboot, turn off the iPod as you do so normally and then turn it on again.
After the springboard (the UI of the iPod) appears on the iPod, push enter in the window to continue
(the application cannot detect when the iPod has been successfully booted, so you need to cue it by
pushing enter when asked to)

- You will be asked to reboot twice at some point. This means turning the iPod off, turning it on,
turning it off again, and then turning it back on before pushing enter to continue.

- Enter the IP address of the iPod when prompted.

- If you get a PuTTY dialogue about the SSH host key, say yes.

6. You should end up with an iPod with Installer.app and Trip1Pogostick installed, and SSH, SFTP enabled.

- Username to SSH is root, password is alpine

I tried "When it turns off, let go of the SLEEP button while continuing to hold the HOME button" , but it did not work

I found on google that it should be continue to hold the sleep button and home button for 20-25s after it's turned off, and it works finally

Alright so i got the the point were you load the touchfree.exe cmd window but It keeps telling me the applemobiledevice.dll is not found.. and shuts down and telling me to reinstall the program ?

What do i do ??

I got everything workings, this is so awesome! If your having problems I suggest try using a different computers, I found only one in my house hold that would work with everything correctly.

Did you copy iTunesMobileDevice.dll from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin to the same folder as touchFree.exe? You will need to do this in order for it to work.

Okay, I plan on doing this later today.
I have the iPhone applications in a zip file (Windows machine).

Once touchfree.exe runs successfully (which I hope it will), how do I get the applications that I want to add onto the iTouch? I thought I saw the tutorial someplace on these forums but now cannot find it. I am not so concerned about email but I would like notes, maps, weather, and the books.app (maybe even Tetris).

I know books.app and the tetris game I have to get somewhere else. But again, just installing the iPhone apps, can anyone help me out? Much appreciation.

Thank you in advance!

the new touchfree version doesn't solve the problem, when i enter the ip from the touch i get the same network error :(
hey where is this command line in this program??it says i can enter for example 'touchFree.exe six' to start again from there so i dont have to restore the ipod...but where i have to enter this??

I apolgize for my lack of knowledge of Wi-Fi/networking, so forgive me if I ask a really stupid question. :p

- Do you have to connect the touch to your Wi-Fi network for the entire length of the jailbreaking process?
- Do you have to keep it connected through USB to your pc/laptop?
- Can't I just go to the tif exploit site while connected to Wi-Fi and do the rest of the procedure "offline"?

I'm asking since I don't have my own Wi-Fi hotspot, but I do get a signal from an unprotected one near me... a pretty weak one which gets me disconnected every 5-10min.

It does say something about the IP-address, but I wanted to know for sure before I screw it up somehow. :p

touchFree3 does the Job!

Been playing with my "Newton 2.0" for a few hours and can confirm this guide is perfect on Windows XP SP 2 with .NET 2.0!

For anyone having major torubles (Networking/Rebooting/etc) I would definately recommend a restore beforehand; it's worth it.

Peace to all involved!

P.S. Erm, I kind of hope someones also been working on a patch for this in the community; could lead to malicious douches using a malformed TIF as an avatar, etc...

Your iPod needs to be connected to wi-fi the ENTIRE time for this process to work. It should also be connected through USB to your computer until the jailbreak is complete. If you do not have a reliable wi-fi connection, I would not recommend attempting this.
