No, matter what I do I can't figure out what to type as the password or login name for when I try the SSH command. Can somebody please help me with this I'm on a time limit.

Looking at the code I can see it calls iPhuc to get this rdisk file. If I try manually executing the command I get the following error:

c:\Users\Tony\Documents\touchfree2>iphuc -o "getfile /dev/rdisk0s1 rdisk0s1 3145
72800"
iphuc 0.6.1 with tab completion.

CFRunLoop: Waiting for iPhone.
AMDeviceStartService 'com.apple.afc': 0
File size: 314572800
getfile: Failed to open remote file: 8

Any ideas?

to everybody with network errors, possibly try turning off all firewall software.? I have comodo and I shut mine down before the jailbreak and it went off without a hitch. just a thought.
And the username/password is root/alpine
you won't see the password as you type it

This sounds like you didn't run niacin's TIFF.

Worked first time for me. Installed several apps already.

IP address: If you are on a local network, it should start with 192.168 or whatever. It also helps if you take off your router password.

touchfree: Has to be a clean format to 1.1.1 with no settings changed, no problems from me running it. Helps if you click "run as administrator" when running Vista.

username/pass: its stated clearly in the instructions. on a time limit? lol.

tdicola: looks like when you unzipped the files didn't get copied over correctly or are protected for security reasons. Try unzipping them again into a different directory, like desktop. Also make sure you copy over that .dll file from program files/common/apple etc.

I had this same problem, I tried a second time took the password off my router and plugged my laptop into my network using an actual cord and it worked

Me too Spazer...Excited about my new improved device!

I used WinSCP http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=winscp&filename=winscp404setup.exe&use_mirror=easynews
to login to the ipod and then drag & drop the apps to Applications folder and the GMM.framework folder to System\Library\Frameworks and MobileMailSettings.bundle to \System\Library\PreferenceBundles

Then I had to go back into Putty and type /bin/chmod -Rf +x /Applications/ because the Apps would just crash on the ipod. Now all is right with the world...until the next update

THANKS PLANETBEING!!!

what are the Gmm.framework folders?

okay i typed in the username and password and it came up with the symbol "#".

im not sure what I am supposed to do here so i went on to the next step and typed in "/Applications/Installer.app/Installer" but it said it could not be found. what do i do from here?

I've been googling and it seems to be the case. However I'm definitely visiting http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com and seeing safari crash (screen turns black and it dumps me to the main menu). Is the safari exploit not working for my touch? :(

Very odd. If you have visited this link several times in a row, it might be causing issues. Did you restore before trying to jailbreak? Type "touchfree recovery" to send it to recovery mode and then restore with iTunes.

If you're inclined, you could poke around in iPhuc to make sure you're seeing /.

Will this be cuasing me a problem;

I only have 1 ethernet cable so i cant have internet on my ipod and my PC at the same time when i want wifi i have to unplugg the ethernet cable from the back of my PC and stick it into my base station, is this why my installation is dodgy? Or it could be becuase i cannot find clear instructions on how to go back to 1.1.1?

Okay, I got the "/Applications/Installer.app/Installer" to work but now I typed in the "http://conceited" site and when it loaded it said that it could not be downloaded. what am i supposed to do if i cant download it?

Yeah I checked and my firmware is version 1.1, perhaps this isn't compatible with the exploit? I'm downloading and upgrading to 1.1.1 now so hopefully this will resolve the problem.

what are the Gmm.framework folders?

You will find this folder in the extracted iPhone 1.1.1 apps zip file. I think it is needed in the proper location to run the mail app

answer anyone?

I am not sure what you are asking?! You mean you don't have wifi or you just can't have wifi and your pc on ethernet at the same time. because you need both online. lan cables are pretty cheap these days, if I could shove one through the tubes for you I would.

yeah, i got that to work.

Agua, you sure you're typing in that conceited address exact??? it worked for me, I don't know how to help you. take it one step at a time...the community sources package download comes later...before you download Trip1PogoStick

Can someone please tell me where to download the iphone apps. i have jailbroken my touch with not a single problem in one try and would like to use the iphone apps. please tell me where to get them. ty

Solutions

Folks! Calm down. For those of you who are new to this stuff, but jumped in anyway, and ended up crashing your ipod, you obviously did not read toc2rta.com's warning. Not a smart move.

But, I will take a little time to post some solutions to some common problems.

If you ran the tiff file but did not know what you were doing (ahem, a certain user here) that was probably not a good move. Here's some things to try to get your ipod syncing with tunes again:
-Press and hold the home & power buttons until the screen blanks. It should reset. allowing itunes to sync with your ipod.
-If that does not work, then you've gotta finish what you started... Either run this program or Lookup the original jailbreak for windows instructions at ipodtouchfans.com. Follow them CAREFULLY, step-by-step. If you are confused about how to get an SSH session running, look it up.

If the jailbreak program hangs at the patching stage, you most likely attempted to do the jailbreak (without success) before running this program, right? That means that the file the program is requesting from your ipod and trying to "patch" (basically it looks for a specific string, and edits it) is probably NOT what it was originally (meaning the program will try to look for the ORGINAL string, and unable to find it, it will crash). Since this is the first (beta) release of the program, it is probably only programmed to edit the ORIGINAL version of the file. If the file differs in ANY way, it will most likely fail to see that and lockup.

Solution: Reset your ipod. Restore the firmware in itunes. Run the program again.

If you are not sure what SSH is, Again, you probably should not have tried to jailbreak in the first place. Anyway, get a program called putty. Read the original jailbreak instructions at ipodtouchfans.com. to learn how to use it.

Folks- This program does EXACTLY what the original tutorial told you to do step by step. So it comes down to this- Did you attempt to jailbreak before running this program? Restore the firmware. Did you exit the program previously without letting it finish, and now it returns errors or hangs? Restore the firmware. YOU ALSO NEED TO DELETE THE FILES IT CREATED IN ITS DIRECTORY. Delete the entire folder, and unzip it again to start fresh. Otherwise, you will get errors. Are you having other issues? Restore the firmware. Delete the program folder and unzip it again. You have to go back to step 1 and start fresh.

Hope this helps

from what you said, i think i did the right things, since it says "safari can't download this file" im not sure if i did something wrong or not. where do i get the community sources file? i dont see it in the zip file i downloaded at the beginning.

Alright I was finally able to get everything working, in the end I was using firmware version 1.1 instead of 1.1.1. It would be nice to make a note in the first post that version 1.1.1 is required, but a fresh install is not necessarily required.
