Are you saying I have to drop unlimited date with AT&T to get the new iPhone or buy it at full price to keep it?

I have VZW, so I have no idea about AT&T (haven't had them since my 3GS), I just know if you want LTE at all (plus a capped/throttled network), you better live in a select number of cities such as San Diego.

I will be in Canada till the 23rd of September and I would like to upgrade my unlocked iPhone 4 to the new iPhone. Would it be as simple as pre ordering on the online Apple store and then collecting it at a chosen physical Apple store?

Good question. I am not sure if you can do store pickup on a pre-order. Hopefully others will have experience with that.

AT&T is the scum of the Telecom world (along with Comcast), but they do have SOME LTE, but it seems as though you need to be able to throw a rock and hit the tower to get it. Their HSPA+ is an abomination they like to call 4G that no where else in the world does...

Except for the International Telecommunications Union-Radio communications sector, but 4G standards are defined by MacRumors users, not the ITU, so they don't count

How do I order 2 Phones?

I will be switching my wife and I from ATT to Verizon. We have a family plan now with ATT. When I go to Apple.com to order, I can only place an order for ONE phone.

I chatted with Apple and they said that I need to order the first phone completely, and then order a second using the new Verizon account info I got from the first order. This will add the second phone.

Has anyone tried this? Seems weird to me. I would imagine that it will be hard enough to pre-order on the 12th. Having to do it twice might be next-to-impossible!

Don't think it'll sell as quickly as the iphone 4 or ipad 2 release. It will still end up doing well tho, like every other Apple product:D

I think ViPhone was getting at the fact that AT&T's LTE coverage is poor.

Oh. That's believable. I will still probably stay at AT&T because

1. Their service is much better where I live than Verizon.

2. I don't care about LTE since my data plan is tiny anyway, and I only use it for text.

3. Verizon can sometimes be a scumbag. I don't forgive them for their terrible cable box, their non-functioning iOS app for their cable box, and their ridiculous DNS service that trumps my super-fast connection with FiOS. What jerks.

I'm not saying that AT&T's cell service is better overall than Verizon, but it's better for my needs, and I don't like how Verizon treats their customers.

Slightly off-topic:
Anyone have experience (or know someone) the past few weeks who upgraded their Verizon line on a family plan online, either through Apple or Verizon?
I plan to preorder. Verizon stores tell me I will not be forced onto their new "Spend Everything" plans and there is no way no how I am doing that. I will stick to my 2gb individual data on the family plan.
But I want to be proactive if there are known issues upgrading or preordering online with that.

~snip~ What difference does the preorder date make. It can still ship on the the scheduled date. It just allows people that are excited to get there orders in to do so and be content.

Some of the threads from the 4S experience were a good laugh though, watching people who had pre-ordered go completely nuts over whether they should have done that or just stand in line etc.

The problem of pre-orders is what to do between then and the time FedEx shows up with it. If you haven't pre-ordered, then there are so many more options left on how to get all crazed until you lay hands on your new iPhone.

Can I preorder 2 phones under a single contract that day ? I'm switching from AT&T to Verizon. I need to sign up for new service and get two subsidized phones on the same plan. I'm not quite sure how to do that on apple.com.

Do you think verizonwireless.com will offer preorders that same day or just apple.com ?

Going to have a tough decision this time around. I'm usually right on board the iPhone wagon, but that Samsung Galaxy SIII is rather tempting since my wife will still have the iP4S. If the iP5 is as rumored I am feeling a little underwhelmed, the LTE is about the only major selling point for me if the screen is taller (WTF?!). I'm in the camp of "I hope the leaks are a diversion but probably aren't." Let's see what actually gets announced and if it's compelling enough to upgrade.

AT&T made a FORTUNE out of you! You just paid for your phone three times over

How AT&T made any money from me is beyond me. I bought it as pay as u go from the Uk and has only been on NZ and Polish networks since. Not everyone is American would you believe

That would be awesome if that was the case. I would think if they are doing pre-orders that soon, they would have a massive supply to keep up with demand.....or if you miss the first few hours of ordering you are better off going in store.

I hope they have something else than LTE (no luck outside the US) and a taller screen (seriously?). My 3GS is getting old (randomly laggy, then speedy, then laggy...) and I will need something new, ready to shell out the full price for an unlocked iPhone.

So, Apple:
- Give me a long lasting battery.
- Give me an instant-fast camera (I mean, faster than even the 4S which isn't fast enough) - picture quality of the 4S is okay though.
- give me a localized baseband with 42 mbps HSPA+ only since French carriers don't offer LTE and I don't want useless radios eating down my battery
- give me a longer wifi range
- give me a shape less sharp than 4/4S and less prone to shattering. Heck, my lovely, rounded 3GS bounced on the ground quite a few times and it is in good cosmetic shape after 2,5 years.
- Find an amazing gimmick or two so I can show off with my fancy new phone.

And i'll give you 600 Eur in exchange.

YYYYYeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

which i cud keep it up till the phone's actually in my hand:D
