A Big thanks to you natasha69

here's the key guys. go to www.att.com. Login to your master account.

REMOVE the shared texting plan. Remove all texting plans altogether.

Now go to the Apple store and order. You should be good to go. Once complete, log back in and set it back up.

It's ATT's fault. They are throwing an error because they did not code for a shared plan of texting so it locks the account (you can't change the texting plan if the other accounts want to use it).

Anyway, happy ordering...

I was going CRAZY trying to do this tonight. I was on hold with Apple for close to 3 hours until I was disconnected. I tried on the site about 150 times to no avail.
I came across your post and gave it a shot. WOW, what a find! It worked of course, adn I can go to bed happy.

also, I have a family plan with a FAN and it worked as she describes.

Thank you for saving my sanity.

These are very good questions. I completed my order about 15 to 20 minutes ago and have yet to receive any emails concerning my order. I really do hope we do NOT have to go to an Apple store to have the phone activated.

i did online chat (getting through on the phone was worthless... i hung up after OVER and hour!) she said you just plug it into itunes.... so we'll see.... at the very least we'd better be able to just go to an at&t store cuz the apple store it quite a ways from us!

Some states require the sales tax on the full purchase price (so $699 for the 32GB), not the subsidized price. Same thing happened with the 3G phones last year.

well that's just bull*****! when i buy something on sale (which this technically is, i guess) i don't pay tax on the full price... i pay on the PURCHASE price! which is 299... NOT 699!

what a RIPOFF!

How are you planning on activating it for your number even though it was ordered on hers? I ask because I did the exact same thing...

Im going to just activate it on my number via iTunes. If that doesnt work, I will activate it on her number then turn right around and switch the sim cards.

So here's the question...

I'm not eligible for an upgrade to my 3G until 8/5/09 (which angers me beyond belief)...but I am on a shared plan and my wife IS eligible...but she doesn't want an iphone.

So can I preorder through apple.com using her account, get the 3GS, but then replace my phone with it?

Can someone please help me? I just want to know why I can't complete the process of ordering my phone online and why I "need" to go to an apple store? Is there anyway to bypass this?

Its no on "sale" its subsidized. This happens all the time with subsidized phones. Its the Govt getting as much as they can.

I believe AT&T and Apple allowed people to activate their 3G phones via itunes, after a few months or so after the release. Hopefully they will continue that process. I did it with my 1st gen iPhone and it was great. Not having to go into an AT&T store to activate made life so much simpler

I haven't really seen anyone mention this issue:

Anyone run into this?

Edit: I'm not on a family plan. Just my own account with an iPhone 3G and the 1500/month texting plan. I also only qualified for the $499 32GB iPhone 3G S.

So the two options you're thinking of is

A) Take phone out of box, put in your SIM card (then account manage online to get the right plans on the right lines)

or

B) Take phone out of box, get it set up on your wife's, then switch your SIM.

I wonder if there will be any negative consequences for doing option A?

Why the **** are some people getting 499 and I am getting 699 to show up? All I wanna do is order this goddamn phone. **** ATT I knew they would pull this crap.

for everyone waiting on the confirmation emails i did mine way earlier and the email took about 2 hours. i think its just overloaded with too many people ordering now

and about the sales tax i got the 32 gb (new customer) it was only $318.44 total (thats only $19.44 in ohio tax) i dont know why some buying a cheaper phone would have like $50 tax sounds odd

Has anyone on a Premier Business account succesfully ordered one????

I get this

Noelmel, because Ohio is fair and California is greedy. It's a state thing. And it sucks.

Option A is just plugging it in to my Mac Pro and activating it under my number. No Sim swapping at all. If that fails and it tells me I need to activate it under my wifes number I will go ahead and do so then switch out my sim from my 3G to the 3GS and vice versa.

Does the Family Unlimited Texting plan work for iPhones, too?

I registered with a 200-texting plan when I first bought my iPhone and recently added the family unlimited texting plan for the other devices on my network, does this mean the iPhone now has unlimited texts?

Can ANYONE help?
I'm getting F902 on AT&T when removing my family texting plan..

That will work if you are not a current iPhone 3G customer looking to upgrade to an iPhone 3GS by utilizing your wife's eligibility.

However, if you are a current iPhone 3G customer, it gets more complicated.

Since you MUST do a data plan then on your wife's account, you will end up with 2 iPhone data plans on your account, even though only 1 of you will have an iPhone (I presume you would sell your iPhone 3G). You would have to call up AT&T and then have them remove the data plan that was assigned to your wife's #

Payment of the balance on your AT&T account will qualify you for an iPhone at the full retail price. Use *PAY to check your balance and pay your bill from your AT&T phone. On 03/13/2010, you may qualify for a standard iPhone upgrade.
  • $499.00* — 8GB iPhone 3G (black)
  • $599.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
  • $699.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)

So mine says that. I payed my bill earlier in the day, but it hasn't changed yet. But according to the first sentence, even after AT&T process my payment, I'm still gonna be stuck with the $599/$699 pricing? Why? Those prices better change tomorrow to $399/$499!
