Anyone run into this?

Edit: I'm not on a family plan. Just my own account with an iPhone 3G and the 1500/month texting plan. I also only qualified for the $499 32GB iPhone 3G S.

That's the only window I ever reach. I called Apple and they said I need to call AT&T or actually go to an Apple retail store...

Hopefully your nearest Apple store is closer than 2 hours away...

That will work if you are not a current iPhone 3G customer looking to upgrade to an iPhone 3GS by utilizing your wife's eligibility.

However, if you are a current iPhone 3G customer, it gets more complicated.

Since you MUST do a data plan then on your wife's account, you will end up with 2 iPhone data plans on your account, even though only 1 of you will have an iPhone (I presume you would sell your iPhone 3G). You would have to call up AT&T and then have them remove the data plan that was assigned to your wife's #

I'm not sure I understand.

The person who's eligibility I'm using is going to be getting a new iPhone 3GS as well. We have a third line who's getting my current iPhone 3G.

So now, it's

Line 1: Non-iPhone
Line 2: iPhone 3G
Line 3: iPhone original

Line 2 took line 3's eligibility. Line 3 took Line 1's eligibility (we both ordered iPhone 3GS's), and Line 1 is going to get Line 2's iPhone 3G that Line 2 will no longer be using.

I mean, I guess if I can do all these feature additions/subtractions over ATT's online account manager it shouldn't be too difficult. I'm just confused as to the order I should activate or put the sim in or anyting like that.

Couldn't find anyone else with this issue:

New iPhone/att customer, living in rural area, get my mail and all bills at a PO Box.

When entering address, I get the following message: "The address you entered could not be found."

I've tried every possible variation of my address, both physical and the PO Box.

Anyone have any experience with this?

i spoke with an at&t rep tonight for a similar situation - they told me that you need to activate the 3G S first, then the rest doesn't matter - the 3G S should activate with no issues. i was told that to sort the data plans, you will need to call into at&t with the IMEI number(s) of the other phones, so the data plans can be properly assigned to those phones. not sure that the feature manager online will be able to take care of that - but i anticipate hold times for at&t on friday to be rather ridiculous.

Damn it. I expect the same if people can't do it through the OLAM. I *think* the rep who I talked to about this situation said that when someone puts the SIM card in another phone it automatically adds the IMEI to that account. Can't verify though. Thanks of for the reply.

So I placed my order on Apple.com for 32gb black one to be delivered to my house, but for some reason I have gotten 4 emails all saying the following:
---
You're on your way to a new iPhone.
Thanks for starting your iPhone purchase online. To finish the process, come to the store you selected and look for a Concierge in an orange shirt. We'll help you complete your purchase, activate your new iPhone, and set it up for you. Find a store
Make sure to bring these items with you:
• A valid, government-issued photo ID
• Your Social Security number
• A debit or credit card

We look forward to seeing you.

Has anyone else had this happen???
When I check my order status on Apple it shows that is supposed to be delivered to my home & doesn't seem to be pending on me going to any Apple store. Plus there's not a single Apple store anywhere close to me, hence me ordering online.

Any info is greatly appreciated!!

Yeah, I got the same thing. I'm going to the Apple Store tomorrow to find out what's going on.

ATT does not have your addy in their data base as a legit address. You will have to call them tomorrow.

right - in my situation, i am using my mother-in-law's number on our family plan for the upgrade, and in the end, she will be getting no iPhone, since i am giving my 3G to my wife. so here is the now:

line 1: non-iPhone (upgrade-eligible line)
line 2: non-iPhone
line 3: iPhone 3G

after:

line 1: non-iPhone (used upgrade)
line 2: iPhone 3G
line 3: iPhone 3G S

so it could be that my situation is a bit different than yours, since the phone being used for the upgrade isn't getting any kind of iPhone plan - i'll want to call to make sure everything is straight on the account regardless, i can see getting charged for 3 iPhone plans when the day is done, just because it's at&t. she assured me it was all on the up & up though.

My wife has the original iPhone and will be getting my 3G so I don't foresee any problems.

So, if anything, my situation might be easier to handle. Everyone needs to end up with iPhone $30 data plans anyway, so there's no need to associate them if it automatically updates with SIM swaps.

The only thing I'm worried about is my txt discount code. I get 1500 texts for $9 and I REALLY don't want that to go away. I don't think it should as long as I make sure not to touch the text option of my features list in OLAM...

Anyone have any news on if the FAN discount stays on the account after the text messaging gimmick.

I'm just worried about losing mine, no way of getting it back.

Thanks to anyone who has any info.

here's the key guys. go to www.att.com. Login to your master account.

REMOVE the shared texting plan. Remove all texting plans altogether.

Now go to the Apple store and order. You should be good to go. Once complete, log back in and set it back up.

It's ATT's fault. They are throwing an error because they did not code for a shared plan of texting so it locks the account (you can't change the texting plan if the other accounts want to use it).

Anyway, happy ordering...

THANK YOU!! IT WORKED! After a half day of trying and two hours on hold trying to phone order, this worked instantly! Wish I would have seen this thread a couple hours ago! Thanks again! Super genius!

Can someone please help me? I just want to know why I can't complete the process of ordering my phone online and why I "need" to go to an apple store? Is there anyway to bypass this?

I had the same problem.

SO I got up and went to see this so called 'genius' at the apple store. Well what do you know, he had no idea what I was talking about, talked to the manager who said that it was most likely an issue on the AT&T side.

So off we go to AT&T.

AT&T says that it looks like the credit check was on hold for some odd reason (credit score of 800 here). They said if I wanted I could do a direct fulfillment order at the store, and pick it up on release day (I was the first order at that store). So I went ahead an ordered it through the store.

I suggest you do the same, bypassing the 'genius' at the Apple store all together.

You are the man/woman! Wish I found this sooner.

What a nightmare and silly error on both parties side. Whoever you are, thank you for the scoop you only could have received from within...

you're welcome. actually i made a guess based on my knowledge of how bad offshored RFC development is. :)

I ordered much earlier.....It took about 2 hours for the email.....funny thing though....
The email shows $0.00 for the iphone and 17.41 for taxes....when i check my card online, it shows apple charges for the whole $216.41......

My question is.....are they charging us the full price today or on the day of shipment?????

bought 2 of these earlier....

Heres my situation.

Line 1 (me) - iPhone 3G
Line 2 (dad) - Non-iPhone

I want to use Line 2's eligibility to get iPhone 3GS at $199. I will sell my iPhone 3G to a friend.

So are you guys saying that in order to accomplish this, I just need to put my iPhone 3G SIM in the iPhone 3GS and this should all work? When my dad gets the upgrade, doesn't that "de-activate" his original SIM from his non-iPhone, which means that when he goes to place it back into his non-iPhone, it won't work?

Also, if he does put his original SIM back into his phone, will it automatically convert him from an "iPhone data plan" to a normal one so that I am able to remove it from my ATT online account manager?

Ok I'm thinking of ordering online.

A quick question though.

If I'm ordering online and going through the activation process does that mean my T-Mobile phones will be inactive for the next 2 weeks? I mean because basically I'm signing up for AT&T service at the time of order correct? Therefore canceling my T-Mobile accounts on the spot?

I had the same worries. No, placing a pre-order does not cancel your T-Mobile accounts yet.
I ordered online through AT&T. The customer service rep in the live chat (a popup option during online ordering on At&T website) said my current account isn't canceled until we get our phone and go through an activation process. I'm not sure if this means we have to take it in or can do it ourselves. The online preorder form does ask for info about which phone number you are transferring. I have heard in the past transferring numbers meant you had to purchase in person, this must have changed.

Payment ??

For those that were able to get it ordered by removing the text plan on ATT....How do you pay for the new phone? Credit card, charge to acct? What options?

I ordered it with a credit card.

They won't charge you until the item ships.

SIM doesn't matter. Since they ship the phone, they obviously don't deactivate your dad's SIM card. So when the phone arrives, toss your SIM in, plug the phone into iTunes, register, and boom! Good to go.
