Wow it would be so great if Apple went back to a more frequent refresh model - sure, less significant refreshes happen when they do them more frequently, but leaving certain models to get stale does leave a bad taste in my mouth when I'm in the market to buy.

Please, no more HDDs on iMac.

Rather replace it with SATA SSD, Fusion Drive (SATA SSD + PCie SSD) or PCIe SSD.

When will suitable Intel & Radeon chips for the iMac Pro, iMac and Mac mini come out?

But practically what could they add? CPUs are crap, GPUs maybe 5700? So if they don't do redesign or something bigger than why bother at all?
Intel is seriously behind AMD and the difference between 9th gen and 10th is minimal, right?
So apart from better GPU are we really getting anything?
The redesign should be done, better thermals, bigger screen and smaller bezels.
If nothing, than at least smaller bezels. They look terrible and so inconsistent with the rest of the line.

"The real question is whether it’ll be a redesign or not."

Doubt it.

iMac is only Mac left without a T2. I expect that’ll change, and the move to only soldered-in SSD options will be linked to that. But presumably that would also enable face/touch ID if they want to do that. Four TB3 ports and a smaller bezel *please* though count me still very happy with the 5K screen itself. And will they keep user-replaceable RAM?

REALLY hoping for a new 27-30" iMac refresh soon! not bothered about a redesign (10 years on and it still looks better than any PC equivalent IMHO, although a slightly smaller bezel wouldn't go amiss). Mainly just want them to ditch outdated hard drives and go full on SSD!

Intel is expected to release their Comet Lake-S chips next month. I bet you that's what's driving these refreshes.

I can definitely see Apple releasing a Pro Display XDR-like iMac redesign with integrated stand (though maybe not as functional as the $1000 Pro Stand)

Good point regarding the better thermals. That is something I'd definitely like to see but a redesign doesn't need to happen for that. Apple could adopt the thermal management system from the iMac Pro. On the flip side that would probably mean no more user upgradeable RAM.

would luv a mac mini update
though past update track record schedule dissapoints sorely
maybe worth the wait if -
new mm will have easy access to ram upgrades
would be wild if same footprint and with color options as diverse as gen4 ipod shuffle
space gray is still cool though
not getting my hopes up though...
lets see...

I know it's almost like you don't have a choice to select SSD 😂😂😂
You clearly intentionally missed the point: With how much Apple is charging for their supposedly "superior" computers, they should include an SSD by default and completely ditch non-SSD drives.

They are also charging several hundred more dollars than the computer is really worth for sub-par hardware. It's basically paying a premium to own a crap-base spec device because apparently Apple users like wasting their money.

Or even made the updates more sustainable like replaceable chips/memory. Design is still good although perhaps one tweak would be a no frame iMac, so the screen is the whole of the front with the logic board and gubbins all behind

I'd like Mac Mini with some graphics horsepower. A Ryzen APU would suffice. I love my Mac Mini, but it struggles with FCP, and I don't want an ungainly external GPU. I also don't want an iMac. If it just had a couple TFLOPS of graphics compute, it would be perfect.

Yeah, sadly, I think their thought is, "You want a solid GPU? Here, we've got eGPUs now, cheapskate."

Even more sadly, I think one of these days I'm going to capitulate.

I have a perhaps unhealthy Mac Mini obsession, with three still doing great in different roles. None more modern than 2012, though, so I'm salivating for a new model...

I think Apple could simply remove the bottom aluminum bar and reduce the bezels on the iMacs, upgrade chips and storage and call it good. I’m still rocking my early 2013 21” iMac with 1.128GB Fusion drive (back when they made them with a 128gb ssd) now 7 years old and never had an issue with it. I’m ready for the jump in performance and screen resolution and will either pass this workhorse down to one of the kids, or keep it as a home hub device. The long lifespan that Apple products offer is awesome - the $1,500.00 I spent back in January of 2013, divided out by the 7 years of daily work, puts the annual cost of ownership (not counting electricity) of just $214.29...and dropping since it continues to be used.

If it’s a press release I highly doubt a redesigned iMac is on the cards. By the sounds of it the iMac Pro will see the new design first at the end of the year followed by the regular one next spring.

As for the Mac Mini I’m hoping they’ve removed the power supply from inside to be external and put a proper GPU inside it. Been tempted to go Mac Mini with a curved display for a while but the GPU is rubbish. I’m not willing to shell out for the eGPU. I’ve always hated things being attached externally it’s not very neat.
