How about a new form factor altogether? 3" or 4" x 12" x 18" Lay flat or on edge. Slightly rounded but lipped edges to prevent scratching. Silver. Room for PSU, user upgradable memory / SSD / 1XGPU.

Bury the on/off switch around the back. Recessed ports plate so effectively a handle in every edge around the back. It therefore has size & weight - gravitas - it looks like the pro machine it is, but headless.

Great audio / Speaker holes like Macbookpro.but in a band around it. Logical subwoofer that fires to the table top (whichever surface that is (steal the tech from the homepod, inc mic, so it can control the home & look great.)

Easy to manufacture, ship. Strong. A v simple form factor. But unmistakably a pro machine for pros that don't concentrate on video.

Yes, I cannot wait until Apple stops forcing us all to buy the low end model and then forces us all to complain about the specs of a low end model. Apple has some nerve offering choices to customers.

Slow spinning-rust drives have no place in the lineup any more. it's a tax on less knowledgeable users that they're the only *standard* options, the only ones you can actually buy in a store and take home the same day, or order from eg: amazon for next-day.

I got an iMac 27" recently and yes I went BTO *just* to swap to a SSD option. And because of the long lead time I delayed my order for weeks while I prevaricated about it. (When I actually spend the money, I want the gratification quickly!)

I expect this *will* be fixed in the next iMac refresh though. It stands out now as the only Mac without a T2 chip, and that's bound to be rectified, and the pattern has been that they use those for SSD device encryption, so it'll be bound up with only having soldered-in SSDs. (Which, by the way, is actually fine by me as long as the base model isn't insultingly small.)

Not shocking at all. More curious about the high end BTO options and CPU options on both. High clock speed Core i9 Mini would basically close the missing gap to the Mac Pro.

If they release an i9 MacMini, I'll stop complaining about the Pro.
As long as I can connect an expansion chassis for my ProTools set up, I'm good.

9th gen is in the current form (8th too) but regardless, the benchmarks I've seen so far show very little improvement over 9th gen. So do you mind sharing why you think its significant?

10th gen Intel desktop CPUs are absolutely not crap. They are significant upgrades from 8th gen in the current iMac and Mini.

4K video editing doesn't sound like a "casual" task, not something that the target audience of the Mac mini is aimed at (or at least should be).

Who said the Mac Mini was for "casual" tasks? Times have changed since the mini was first introduced and this 2018 unit was definitely designed to serve a pro segment. Just read the very first paragraph on Apple's Mac Mini page:

"And now with eighth-generation Intel quad-core and 6-core processors and Intel UHD Graphics 630, Mac mini has even more compute power for industrial-grade tasks. So whether you’re running a live concert sound engine or testing your latest iOS or iPadOS app, Mac mini is the shortest distance between a great idea and a great result."

I would like to see Apple create a Mac Mini Pro. A Mac mini with 2-3 PCIE slots, expandable memory, upgradeable SSD storage. It would be half the price of a Mac Pro with half the expansion so people could have a machine that they could expand and grow with over time.

This is basically what nearly everyone has been asking for in some capacity since MP6,1 was released. No indications Apple has any intent to satisfy this segment of the market. It would be a successful product if they did, especially if an iMac 5K display without the computer was available as a "normal" priced monitor option to accompany the machine.

Oh yeah - this would be my dream as well

I am currently eyeballing the following (but cannot make up my mind):

a. 16"MBP and the XDR display;
b. Mac Pro and the XDR display (I like this option for future-proofing); or
c. Redesigned iMac Pro (if the screen size is increased to at least 30").

The main focus of my usage is Logic Pro X. However, I am setting myself up to start a music focused YouTube channel in April so the larger screen and resolution of the XDR will come in handy once I start editing and coloring video.

I currently have a late-2015 iMac (27" 5K) and, even though I have explored monitors from other companies, I do not want to move backwards when it comes to resolution (even the LG 32" monitors are not actually 5K, they are 5K2K) so, that is why the XDR is on my radar

Would love to see a Mac Mini pro. Something with a good GPU that can handle video editing. I would love to have a Mac Mini to use at my office then i could just unplug the power and take home in my backpack to work from home with.

Kind of tempted to change my setup to iMac / iPad Pro rather than MBP / Monitor / iPad Pro

If the redesign is as XDR suggested, a 32" with some beefy specs, then I would do the same.

Or maybe we'll see a 32" iMac and a NORMAL 32" Apple Cinema Display that matches, in which case I might stick with the MBP and external monitor.

I'd love to see THAT.

32" screen 🤟 - is all I want (small internal upgrades are welcome as well) 🤓

I REALLY love to see that.

I'd be sorely tempted to pull the trigger on a new regular iMac if there is a redesign and/or screen improvements.

Take my cash for that. And my wife.

Considering this design came out in 2011, I think we're a decade too early... ;-)

I'd love a new 32inch XDR iMac Pro with a dual GPU card like the Mac Pro.
A dual-GPU in an all-in-one. Not happening. Apple cancelled the trashcan Mac Pro because they backed themselves into a thermal corner and that Mac had a dual GPU. What makes you think a dual-GPU will happen in an AIO?

I think you guys are dreaming if you think think the imac screen size will increase. The only way I could see them doing that is if they want to downsize the bezels and need to then enlarge the screen to fit the internals. More likley this imac will get a speed bump and maybe T2. Let's be realistic.
