Yeah!

But you should just skip iPad 2. I mean, iPad 3 has more battery life, extra cameras, a better screen, and the processor is 20% faster.

But you're a sucker if you buy iPad 3.

The iPad 4 will be even faster, lighter, runs on a new type of power system that hasn't been discovered yet.

But if you buy that, you're stupid.

The flexible screen on the iPad 5 let's you roll it up when you're not using it and stick it in a jacket pocket.

I pity the fools that fell for that, when the iPad 6's projection screen scales from 3" to 6 feet, and the whole thing fits in the size of a ball-point pen.

And any idiot that bought this iPad 6 will miss out on the iPad 7's neural interface...

Thats true but... The first one of anything to the 2nd is a bigger jump than the 2nd to the third. Think about the iPhone 3g to the 3gs. Not THAT much. The ipod touch 2g to the 3g. not THAT much

That's really funny and brilliant of you. :rolleyes:

I totally agree. I don't care if it is thinner, but lighter. Thats what I want.

I agree but I'll also add this in. How are they going to do that? How can they leave it same size, and magically reduce weight. I know there is probably a few things, but would it really be noticeable? Also for those who say leave it same size and make a bigger battery. That = more weight. Don't get me wrong, I'm as excited as the rest of you because I held out for v2 for the facetime. My wife and I use it a ton. She's a stay at home mom w/ my lil boy so when I travel for work (1-2 weeks) at a time, it's nice to see them w/ my iPhone4, because sometimes the phone is all I got.

Wow. Bitter much?? Unbelievable how narrow-minded and condescending some people are.

Keep in mind that some people purchase things with the intent of keeping them for a lengthy period of time. Naturally, they want to get the best bang for their buck if this is a device that will accompany them for the next 2 to 3 years. Not everyone upgrades once a year, to keep up with Apple's cycles. I most definitely understand why someone would think like that.

I can't wait to buy one! I'm sure we'll hear more about it in the coming months. Will it make my coffee in the morning and take my dog for a walk? :D

I have really enjoyed the iPad 1.0 experience. I will be first in line for 2.0 when it comes out. But well, I am rich and money is not a factor.

I think you may have missed his/her point.

As I read it, that post was aimed at the people who were congratulating themselves on waiting for V2. The fact being that it doesn't matter during which version you buy in, 12 months later you're using 'old and busted' tech. I have a V1 iPad. I'm planning to get a few years out of it, 'cos I don't make a habit of throwing away 500 bucks a year just to have teh shinyz. I'm sure some posters will feel that somehow they've scored some kind of point by skipping V1 and buying in at V2 because now their toy is way cooler than mine, but the V3 owners will point and laugh at them, and so on.

It's also condescending when people imply that others are "uneducated consumers" for not waiting for the second version, which everyone knows won't come out for another year. Not saying the original poster said that, but it's usually associated with those kinds of comments.
There's nothing wrong with waiting until a device meets your needs before buying it, but there's also no smug genius in the revelation that version 2 will be better than version 1.

rear camera

If any I bet for iPod touch camera...720p but bad still images ? of course it is much thinner than camera on the iPhone. I think there is market for rear camera indeed - AR, bar codes, even the facetime

Would you agree ?

i agree that World Mode is kinda catchy :)

lack of front facing camera was the deal breaker for me preventing me from getting a gen1 iPad. If they put one on gen2 I'll be first in line.

I'll give you the iPhone 1 vs 2, though I'd argue that for many the app store every but as a large a deal as Edge vs 3g, but the iPod Touch is not a useful comparison. The first gen iPod Touch was a toy that Apple didn't really know what to do with. Recall that it took them months to even enable the basic apps that shipped with the iPhone from day one, as they thought that either a) customers would be confused by the difference between the two devices, or b) frightened of a media player with a built in calendar.

The arc of the iPod Touch is far closer to that of the ATV. A first version that had no obvious business model, and that improved considerably over time through software updates, followed by a massive rethink at Apple and a total change of direction.

I personally believe that Apple took the launch of the iPad every bit as seriously as they did the first iPhone, and unlike with the first iPhone, they already had the tech in place to do what they needed. I'm sure there'll be a jump between the two (camera alone is going to be huge for some people), but I don't think it's going to be as big as a lot of people are hoping. More likely that iOS 5 or 6 will simply not run on the V1 due to the gimped memory.

The iPad is actually quite thick, just not at the edges. I suspect that Apple would like to flatten the back such that it lays flat on a table, but they wont do that unless they can keep the edge profile more or less as it is on the V1.

My guess is that if the V2 has a different form factor at all, it'll just be *slightly* less concave.

you mean slightly less convex.

awesome.

the ipad is probably my single most used computer equipment at home now, so I'm excited at the prospects of it becoming even better. Making it a little lighter will make it even more usable; will be ecstatic if it also includes CPU/RAM upgrades.

Any guesses to how and when they announce the iPad 2 and the Sandy Bridge line of computers? Last time around it went something like this

iPad announced January 27
iPad release April 3
MacBook Pro refresh April 13

My guess is they flip-flip it this time. Meaning a late January Event to announce the MacBook Pro and a release soon after. Then an April refresh of the iPad. I admit, the early 2011 announcement of the new MacBook Pros is being really optimistic. Can't a guy dream :D

Why would Apple announce the iPad2 2 months before release? When have they ever announced subsequent hardware versions that far ahead of release? They only announce completely new products months before releasing it (like iPhone and first iPad). Once they announce the iPad2, it will be availabe that week (end of February is my guess).

And remember, this is not a contract-based machine. Apple does not have to wait exactly 12 months between each suscessive generation. With the slurry of tablets about to hit any minute, it's in Apple's best interest not to wait the full 12 months, but to release it in 10 or 11 months.

As for how long people have to wait to get their hands on 1 after production starts, I'm thinking about 1 month. Apple had been assembling 2 million iPad per day. I don't think they're just going to sit on their hands with a couple million units sitting around.

CDMA is a very old and backwards technology, they really won't be doing that.

SIM cards for the foreseeable future.

So was MMS apparently. That didn't stop Apple from implementing it and causing all the fanboys to do a complete reversal and praise Apple for giving us that function.

Apple's future

Apple using Liquid Metal+Carbon Fibre is the next evolutionary design over the current aluminum unibody offering more lighter and thinner design and it will carry itself in future mobile devices (Macbook Pro/Air, iPhones, etc.)

I suspect iPad 4 or iPad 5 will include ARM's newly announced Eagle A15 supporting up to 8-cores running at 2.5Ghz only consuming between 0.5 - 1.9 watts of power.

Mac OS Lion is just a sneak peak of what is about to happen in the future Mac OS releases.

With the next preview release of iOS 5 or 6, Mac OS's fullscreen applications such as iPhoto '11 will be binary compatible with ARM's A15 CPU which the next gen iPad can run seamlessly.

Mac AppStore indicates iPad compatible apps.

At that time, iPads will have 256-512Gb of SSD storage space.

~~~
Apple is secretly working on their Mac OS to parallelize binary compilations with ARM and Intel and it will be the transitional software between two CPU architecture like Mac OS X was intel compatible from the get-go.
After many sucesses of the iPad, Apple introduces the first MacBook Air with the logic board built entirely around the ARM CPU. It is running a specialized OS similar to 10.4 Tiger with the OS ability to run on both CPUs. The OS looks and behaves like Lion. Mac applications had to be ARM compatible and cannot run Intel apps and Rosetta cannot substitute for it.
ARM releases A32 which is a 32 core processor.
Apple releases ARM based Mac Mini, then the Macbook Pros and finally the iMacs. MacPro stays with Intel.
Adobe is the last to recompile their software.
~~~

In a meanwhile, iPad 2 will be using Cortex-A9 with Mali GPU over PowerVR SGX.

I'm definitely hoping for an early 2011 update.

I didn't jump in on the first iPad. I would have liked to but I just kept waiting, and now I am too far along in the product cycle that I would rather just wait for the next revision. Since the iPad is not a product that I have a NEED for and it is just something that I want, I figure I can wait for the next one and jump in on that day 1.

I will be out there lining up for the second one if there are lines. Though I am sure it wont be as special as an event as lining up for the first iPad. Sucks that I missed out on that.
